@califforock2000 maybe you are pissed because ppl says he's awesome, well he is, the point is what he has acomplished in his life and in his actual career in the music industry thanks to his technique. saying who someone could do it better is signal that you're a lil' bit biased by the truth of skills. @califforock2000 nope your just a hater. dream theater is an amazing band i really dont like heavy metal that much but dream theaters amazing. makes all that fake bull shit music now a days look even stupider.
@fescolfaro Do you know what improvisation means? Clearly not. This is improvising, he shreds these kinda songs all the time. Even when he plays covers, he IMPROVISES his own style. Get it?
@AndreLucLevesque Um, I mean no offence, but isn't a G mixolydian scale just a fancy way of saying C major scale starting on the dominant? Given that there is no time signature to consider, unless he stated it previous to the recording, wouldn't the emphasis become the same?
@Flutt3rshy Yeah exactly, but IMO, this isn't a fancy way, they should be know as they have there own colors, because these scale(mode) are the natural scale of the Chord associate. (i.e. by degree) I=Ionian(major), II=Dorian, III=Phrygian, IV=Lydian, V=Mixolydian, VI=Aeolian(natural minor), VII=Locrian. I didn't want to look fancy, sorry about that, but the only reason why I said this, was that I personally think that mode should be known as much as major and minor scale.
@AndreLucLevesque It's me who should apologise for calling it fancy, it really isn't so. It was a word used in haste, I suppose I was just too lazy to find the proper one.
Personally though I still feel that defining all of the (basic) scales in terms of major scales with a different principle note and understanding the interaction helps composers more than having different scales in their own right. Both schools are equally valid though, I don't mean to imply one greater than the other!
@caseywbtp - because this was the last 1:04 of an impro that actually started 2 weeks, 4 days, 7hrs and 43mins earlier. If you look closely under the seats you will see the dead bodies of those who were there when JR started as well as the many who walked in during his little "mess about". Respect to the ushers that were walking around with earmuffs on so that they could clear the bodies out of the isles without their own brains exploding.
We lost a lot of good men and women that month. : (
Jordan asks that one guy if the piano was miked yet, so it appears this improv was done while they were still setting up for the show. That explains the small crowd as the only people who would be there would be the stage crew. This handful of people in the video were clearly the only ones smart enough to stop whatever it was they were supposed to be doing and admire this legend at work. ;-)
Upon a more close listening... I still here an "ed" at the end of mike and I definitely don't hear "here". What I hear is, "is it miked yet?". Unless he has a funny way of saying "here" because I don't hear the hard "e" sound.
'
But I guess that's enough analyzing. :-) It probably doesn't matter all that much what exactly he said, as they were still likely setting up for the show either way... Which explains the small crowd.
I saw this so many times i am looking now at the faces of the people below watching him play...At 0.42 a guy is yawning, ahahahah, someone slaps him in the face, ahahah
The 13 people that clicked 'dislike' all need to be kicked in the zipper. What could you possibly have against this? Oh wait, I know...it's too good. Probably White Stripes fans or something...
This has to be all he does. He has to get up, shower, eat break fast, play piano, go to bed, and repeat, because there's no fucking way you can play that amazingly and quickly, even when he does shit on one hand, and do it that casually. Just resting on one leg.

He was sitting on his leg to restrain himself from utilizing his full capabilities on the piano, for if he did, everyone in the audience would immediately be vaporized. And if we were watching it on youtube, we would also be vaporized. So be thankful.
and no bitchies whom stood there not even applauded... what a bunch of balls sucking cunts fuck that!! that guy had just destroyed the piano...he's a monster!
@adibeh there is no god. god is a state of mind, an entity that allows us to believe in a higher power to guide us through difficult times. god is not something we live our lives by. if anything, that should be a sin, because it is a waste of time to spend too much energy "praising" something. No one man can be god, nor woman, nor animal, nor spirit. Even God, can not be god. It's too much power. You are your own god, worship yourself, and believe in yourself. Be all you can be.
@guitarman336 heh, nicely explained, truth is so hard to hear for some people . In my present state of mind, Jordan totally embodies the title of piano god.
@MrSrponyboy Rofl it is a solo. In classical, and ocasionally contemporary music, an impromptu is free form and often derived from an improvisation. Impromptu are almost always for a single instrument. So by "improvised play", I think you mean impromptu.
Therefore, it's a solo. He's by him self. It's a solo.

@rogeliosarambeta that its fast doesnt mean there's no feeling, and Vai does play with feeling, passion and emotion, just like Rudess. and if you say they dont, when do they play with feeling, if they play everything in Minor? if they cry when they play? if they play ballads only?
@rogeliosarambeta i think thats just a matter of taste:P i really like his music, and i assume you dont:P
and he has alot of classical influences, and classical pieces, mostly pieces from the Baroque have very fast sections.
but im not quite sure if he is mostly influenced by Baroque, i dont know that much about classical music:P i only know that most of the neoclassical style comes mostly from the baroque:P
and could you reply in english next time? then i wont have translate it with google:P
@666guitarfreak I do not answer in English because I do not understand that language ;-). I think it's just a matter of taste, for my part I am a fan of musicians who feel the instrument, and transmit an emotion to the listener. Rudess recognize talent, but the only thing that I capture in his music is the sheer speed of the keystrokes. But that's his style and I respect that ;-)
@rogeliosarambeta sorry dude so for you Stravinsky, Rachmaninoff, Ligeti, Bartók are guys just playing fast ? this has to do more with composition style than with personal taste, they represent the paradigm shift of the music from "classics" to modern, they took contrapunt, dissonance, polyrhythms, odd times, time changes light years ahead kind of comparing Newtonian with Einstein physics...to each its own, there is no better one between them I'm just saying he's not under the great ones.
NOOOOOOOO! He didn't resolve! Never end on 5-7! Other than that, TREMENDOUS player! I could listen to that all day, provided he end on a 1 chord. 10 stars!
This is something he can play on a bad day. . . without a problem.
