This is a typical pro-homosexual propaganda piece. It is impossible to like the Mormons and just as impossible to dislike the practicing homosexual. But that is not the issue. Mormonism is modern day Paraseeism with lots and lots of rules. The homosexual guy knows the rules: no caffeine, alcohol or sodomy. And yes they are judgemental; that is the essence of Mormonism as sins in that religion are weighted whereas in Christianity all sin is sin.
If the morman church did not accept the son David for who he is (a gay man) then David should not participate in that ridiculous blessing ritual of that church. Gay people are normal human beings and should be treated equally with everyother human being.
a church that encourages families to look at each other in this way? that's not a church. people should run as far from that organization as possible. what crimes they commit day in and day out!
It breaks my heart to see the family (other than the sister) behave in such a manner. The only one who was truly applying what he knew (towards the end) of the church's teachings was the father. It does not matter if you are Gay or Straight, all that matters is that you live a life that you KNOW is meant for you.
to Christ teachings then that a lot of problem. in the area we i live we also have gay people who are members and we welcome them even if sometimes we can see them doing things that are not proper outside but then they have all the right to attend church and we are friends to them and offer them church services if they needed one....thank you for your letter:)
the grace can only be affective in our lives if we are worthy. it may be a a free gift from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ but we also have an obligation to do. when God created man in their own image, only two people were created and is just one simple fact that that was the only union God permits. the "gay people" are not a cast away in the church it's the people that judges them not the church but if and if they go beyond like indulges themselves on practices which is contrary
you speak of sexual orientation and grace...this is just my idea of the things you wanted me to understand, to have some attracted to same sex can be considered not proper but the most sinful part is to act on it..you said the scriptures are silent on this..haven't you forgotten about Sodom and Gomorrah? is this not enough reason for people to understand that this is abominable to the sigh of God.
a priesthood blessing is recognize by God if done by worthy male members of His church, how can any man who understand the principle can give a blessing when he knew that he had sin. his blessing is for the sick to be healed of course God in His wisdom would grant it but i think that would be a discredit to the one giving it.
@RuralBrett This "hate the sin and not the sinner" is a joke. I don't know who ever came up with that kind of saying but it is about as shallow as Paris Hilton's bubble gum. Homosexual orientation in and of itself is not anymore a sin than heterosexual orientation is. Sexual orientation is a gift of God. It is what one does with that gift that really matters.
@246Alexandrea I know the individual who produced this film and he is a very good man. I saw it when it premiered several years ago in Salt Lake. This story is based on a true story that did happen. The individual who took part in that blessing (the gay Priesthood holder) was committed to his lifetime loved one and this story is about Grace. It's about how God is above all and even Church leaders can be wrong if they do not listen to Him thinking they know it all.
@Rockymtntruth thank you for your letter:) I know that each od us sin and I may not have any right to question his worthiness specially that he just did upon his father requests. However, I also understand that a male member once disobey the law set forth by the Lord for His church cannot claims its blessings. I know that there are many good men who choose to follow their "free agency." I know that God is so merciful that if we choose to go back to Him, He is ever willing to welcome us back
@246Alexandrea The Gay children of God have a history of terrible mistreatment by the LDS Church. Prior to the 1950's it was not so much the case. The Latter-day scriptures are silent on the issue. Jesus Christ Himself is silent on the issue. Joseph Smith, Jr. never discussed the issue although there are examples in Church history that would make it much more fair and just for gay people. Again beginning with the 1950's things changed dramatically. There is no revelation on the subject.
@Rockymtntruth though our sin be as red as scarlet it will become as white as snow through the mercy of God. It is His invitation to me and you and to all of His children. i like you letter:)
@246Alexandrea Jesus Christ is the only being who ever walked this earth who is truly "worthy" in that sense. This young man did not and does not recognize his love of his committed partner as a "sin" anymore than any man would recognize his love of his committed partner (wife) as sin. That father wanted his son to put his hand upon his head and take part in the blessing. Joseph Smith, Jr. taught about grace throughout his life. He never spoke a word about homosexual orientation.
1 John 4:20 (Amplified Bible) If anyone says, I love God, and hates (detests, abominates) his brother [in Christ], he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, Whom he has not seen.
Religion is meant to be a teaching of love respect and a path to a better way of life... but all i see from religion is if you dont fit in to their teachings then you are an outcast.. this is with every religion i have looked into..If Jesus was gay what would you do.. turn your back on him as well?? The Man never married or had any children .
I am glad to see the father wanted his gay son to be a part of his priesthood blessing. No one can take away one's priesthood other than Jesus Christ himself the Highpriest! Amen! a Gay Mormon too!
i wisch my father give me that joy and love i wished for all my love ....but hey i am gay and not the son he wished he had ................shame but that is his voice to talk to and GOD to give a answer tooooooooooo
THIS STORY IS ABOUT CHRIST'S AUTHENTIC AND INFINITE GRACE! THIS IS THE KIND OF GRACE AND LOVE THAT JESUS REALLY SHOWS TO GOD'S GAY AND LESBIAN SONS AND DAUGHTERS AND IT WILL SHOCK MANY A LDS MEMBER WHEN THEY GET OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE AND REALIZE THIS. HIS LOVE IS ACTIVE AND FAR GREATER THAN WE ARE READY TO BELIEVE OR RECEIVE.
beautiful ending, i despise homophobes, regardless of what the book say, i really don't believe GOD hate gay people, religious people tend to be very judgemental, like their perfect, alot of them are usually the biggest devils, you think GOD is gonna love you a hate filled homophobe and not a gay person, please, cause if thats the case you don't have a better chance of getting in heaven any more than they do, everyone sins, even if its just a white lie so no one can judge no one
thats why i stopped believing... most people behave like monsters and they dont even realise it, just because they read a book that says its wrong. what are u going to do? Be like Hitler and kill everyone who are diferent from u? wow that sounds the righteous thing to do no doubt...
@oc714cal I agree with you that Christ loves sinners and not sin. The difference between us, I suspect, is a difference in the way we interpret the Biblical revelation. I believe that when we see the passages that describe same-sex behaviour, the contexts indicate sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, or religious prostitution (idolatry). In Isaiah and Acts 8, we see God welcoming eunuchs into the community. Eunuchs were sexually active people who did not reproduce. A short though in limited space.
Eunuchs were castrated servants so that they could be completely trusted to not procreate. Having been made a eunuch did not make it so that person/slave was a homo? Again, God loves the sinner ... not the sin. the act of Homosexuality is an an abomination in the Lords eyes. It is not accepted
"I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women."
That said, well so David loved someone the same gender and that love he felt towards him, Jonathan, was even stronger/higher than what David felt towards women... mmmmmm, doesn't it sound like homosexual love to you?!?
I just wonder why people keep hiding the truth! God bless us all!!!
@fabianobra you confuse love with lust. I have many male and female friends that I love with all my heart. This does not mean that I have sex with them. Of course there is a HUGE difference in your choice of scripture to support your stance where you have David - who was the anointed King (not prophet) of the Lord compared with other scripture in which Apostles, Prophets and God Himself declare clearly (not with vague assumption - like the aspersion that you have cast at Davids feet) it's wrong
@fabianobra the following scriptures in which Prophets, Apostles and God Himself state with Clarity that the behavior that is referred to in our day as Homosexuality is wrong, unacceptable behavior and an abomination.
Gen. 19: 5
Lev. 18: 22 (Lev. 20: 13)(and especially, Lev.18:30) Thou shalt not lie with mankind . . . it is abomination.
@mrteryx - Stipulations already .... hmmmm. It is the belief of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints - that the King James translation is the most correct. Therefore that is my belief as well.
@oc714cal It's unfortunate that so many of the manuscripts of the New Testament (let alone the Old Testament) have such a messy history. Read what scholar and historian Dr. Bart Ehrman has to say about these things. It truly makes you wonder what happened to many of the original manuscripts as they are nowhere to be found much less compared to the later ones.
@oc714cal The prophets and apostles have NOT made any of this "clear" as you think they have. Joseph Smith, Jr. never said one word about homosexuality. Since he is the prophet of the restoration and since this issue (homosexuality) was to be so important he would have said at least one thing about it. He didn't even connect it with the traditional Catholic/Protestant Sectarian dogma that homosexuality was the great sin of Sodam & Gommorah.
@oc714cal You need to read the original biblical sources and understand that there was no understanding about "homosexuality" like we understand it today. If you trust the modern interpretation of a book from the Bronze Age which has several problems with it and use that book as a weapon to use against gay people then you seriously need to look at yourself in the mirror and ask why you are so homophobic.
@oc714cal lol, GOD himself, last time i checked the bible was written by man and there's no real proof its GOD's words cause there's no real proof that GOD even exist, lots of things are wrong but people on seem to reflect on certain things from the bible, adultery is wrong too and the bible says its a sin but you don't see people wanna crucify you for it like they do gay people, everyone is a sinner in some way whether your religious or not and if you say your not, your lying, so quit judging
We don't know for sure if the passages you refer to were actually written by Paul. There are no original manuscripts dated to that time to be absolutely sure. The Bible has a lot of manuscripts that are contradictory, many have anachronisms in them that prove many who translated them were striving to make them fit later interpretations & religious dogma that was not in the original. Homosexuality was never discussed by Joseph Smith, Jr. The Pauline epistles you refer to are subject to debate
The McCarthy era was very toxic to the LDS Church. Some of the leaders were even reflecting his negative fear based rhetoric in places like BYU (the gay witch hunts at BYU) and other places. It was a terrible time for LGBT people in the LDS Church.
There are many thousands of LGBT people in Mormonism. The Church doesn't know how to deal with us. Bishops and Stake Presidents arbitrarily deal with it in various ways. Some liberal others are extremely judgmental. When I lived in NYC I attended a ward with my former partner & the bishop interviewed both of us. He said he could not extend any priesthood callings or temple recommends but he wanted us to be there and take part. He didn't even hint at a court. He loved us unconditionally.
thats just like a Mormon family to turn there backs on there sons and daughter and siblings and look at his mom just hiding from her own son. what kinda mother is that. Its not his fault he is on this earth its the parents fault's if they didn't want a gay son then they shouldn't have had him. you don't have to like his life style but you should still love your son regardless. doesn't the church preach family first?????. That means your family should come before the church. all your fam.
oc714cal...your beleive is so wack, if you don't think that God would recognize the whole blessing because he is gay than you need to examine your heart. He can't really help it can he. Use all the analogies you want, but God will accept that blessing if it was sincere.
Its not about the vessel its about the priesthood. A durty sinner can bless the holyest things. The priesthood is no respecter of privilesdge. But the priest can vanish from the man entirely depending upon status with church leaders.
That leads to a very important question. What if someone receives a priesthood ordinance (i.e. baptism, confirmation, etc.) from a priesthood holder who was later found out to have been involved in major transgression? Does that negate the ordinance? Nope it doesn't.
@Jacksonholenativ The sinner is now guilty of two sins and will be held accountable. The innocent would not be punished. If a priesthood holder - let alone a leader - knowingly participated with or remained silent knowing that the individual was not worthy to preform priesthood ordinances - then he can expect to share in that sin too. it is not man's law to bend with the tide of mans wants - it is Gods law.
You sound like a typical Pharisee. Grace is what Jesus is about. Grace and love and I haven't heard much of that coming from you. You must have been brought up in a pretty extremist, rigid, religious household.
@Jacksonholenativ still no answer as to what Lev 18:22? How about 1 cor 6:9? 1 Tim 1:10 2 Tim. 4: 3.? I will agree with you that I have been combative in tone to which I am torn on. I do not mind being extremely rigid as it is to following the Savior. In that there is safety. As far as my family life while being brought up - not so much. My father was not a member. He had good qualities and undesirable qualities as most do. I saw my first Gen Conference as an adult.
@oc714cal when I was young my Mom would take us to the beach at Conference time. My testimony has grown and solidified on my own as an adult living my own life. I have pointed out the falsehoods of your statements that God accepts the practice of homosexuality - so that you and others who might read these posts can contemplate the truth as spelled out in scripture and not be beguiled into thinking or justifying the perversion of homo is normal and should be accepted as such - that is wrong.
I've answered it very clearly. I disagree with the implementation of Leviticus 18:22 for our day. It is irrelevant for our time just as the other Holiness Codes are as well. You know better than that. You know that eating shellfish is also considered an abomination in that book as well. Get real. Jesus spoke out clearly against the religious extremists of His day.
@Jacksonholenativ Jackson - you do know that lev 18:22 was upheld by the savior during his life on earth - by both he and his apostles (both during his life and after). Was it irrelevant then too?
@oc714cal "Jackson - you do know that lev 18:22 was upheld by the savior during his life on earth - by both he and his apostles (both during his life and after). Was it irrelevant then too? " WRONG - Where in the hell do you get that b.s. from? There is absolutely no evidence in the New Testament or any of the LDS scriptures to support your assumption. Jesus spoke out vehemently and very loudly against the pious, religious Pharisees of the day. You sound a lot like them.
@oc714cal Where in the hell do you get the notion that Lev. 22 was upheld by the Savior? There is absolutely no evidence from the New Testament or from LDS scriptures that this was the case. You don't see the Book of Mormon reiterating any of that or the insane holiness codes wherein you can't eat shrimp, you can't wear clothing of mixed fibers, you can't touch the skin of a pig, etc. I don't believe that the Holiness Codes were part of pure the law of Moses.
@Jacksonholenativ I am curious Jackson - if homosexuality is to be accepted by God and his church - what other behaviors/choices should also be accepted by God?
@oc714cal "I am curious Jackson - if homosexuality is to be accepted by God and his church - what other behaviors/choices should also be accepted by God? " You look at same gender orientation as a behavior; yet you self-righteously ignore the fact that these people (gay people) are your neighbors, they pass the sacrament to you each Sunday, they teach your kids, they police your streets, govern your country, etc. You need to read our stories. Ever hear of Carol Lynn Pearson? Look her up.
@oc714cal I've answered your questions very directly. I disagree with some of what the leaders have said on certain issues, namely women and the priesthood (especially realizing that Joseph had every intention of conferring priesthood on women), the church not taking responsibility for the black priesthood ban when Joseph ordained more than one black man to the priesthood, and the treatment of LGBT people by the LDS Church beginning in the 1950's.
@oc714cal What in the world are you talking about are there no rules? You seem to be so laden with rules you don't even know how to make any personal choices without calling your Bishop or finding out if a G.A. approves of it.
@Jacksonholenativ Again, the perfect politician. There is always choice. I make them everyday. The gospel and the Lord's commandments provide freedom for me. I am not laden at all - my burden is lite - when I am faithful and obedient. When you study scripture, attend church regularly, pray, repent, and try and follow the Lord - there is little need to ask guidance of the Bishop with regards to rules. I would suggest to you to call your Bishop and find out from a G.A. the churches stance ....
@oc714cal Yep there are choices and if this young man had chosen to either be celibate (not love or be committed to his loved one) or worse to be married to a woman whom he was not attracted to he would have been miserable. I think the choice is pretty clear and he made the one that was healthiest.
@oc714cal Also I have interviewed with many Stake Presidents, Bishops and have studied these issues from the Standard Works and many other LDS sources (including the history of this subject in the LDS Church) for decades. You come in here thinking you know and understand something that you don't know a damned thing about and yet you act as though you do. You're a dumbass if you think you know more about this than gay people do.
@BloodThirstyScott1 Are there no rules or guidelines for decency? It is not hate that I share - it is truth. You are mistaken - I do not stand behind the Lord and his commandments and hide - I stand in front and He behind me. so given the choice of following God who created all things and is 'our' Heavenly Father ..... or someone called bloodthirstyscott and his god whom is the father of perdition whom is in support of a behavior that is against the commandments of God. I will go with God.
@oc714cal look I think that religion can be a beautiful thing but when people start twisting it around and preaching ignorance it makes the idea of it totally redundant. I didn't ask you to believe in "my god" or me. You don't know anything about me except for that I stand for a belief that supports the rights of the very people that "our" god created.
@Jacksonholenativ your definition of 'directly' is a bit off of the mark. What you call 'direct' the rest of the world calls 'Re-Direct'. I ask about a number of specific scripture and your direct answer is to avoid answering specifically on what is asked and site shell fish? So was homosexuality ever considered an abomination - and then per your view - become accepted like eating shellfish? Old testament and New state that homosexuality is a sin. Modern scripture and revelation do too.
@oc714cal I DIRECTLY answered you about those scriptures. Those few and far between scriptures are scriptures that you and several in the sectarian world misinterpret and misunderstand. Eating shellfish was considered an abomination my simple minded friend. It was considered an abomination in Leviticus. You pick and choose the scriptures you want to persecute gay people with and throw out the others that I have sited. U have totally avoided proving your point to me from modern scripture.
@oc714cal Also I do not believe that God ever considered loving same gender committed relationships as an "abomination" but the law of moses considered many strange things as abominable. The holiness codes were very strange and extreme. They probably were a kind of punishment to the Israelites for their worship of false gods after Moses came down the first time from the Mountain with the higher law, the law of love. They rejected that and so they got something that was very legalistic.
@oc714cal"I am curious Jackson - if homosexuality is to be accepted by God and his church - what other behaviors/choices should also be accepted by God? " You look at same gender orientation as a behavior; yet you self-righteously ignore the fact that these people (gay people) are your neighbors, they pass the sacrament to you each Sunday, they teach your kids, they police your streets, govern your country, etc. You need to read our stories. You likely won't because of your insane homophobia.
@Jacksonholenativ I have no doubt the Savior can teach me loads of stuff and point out my many failings - and give me direction as to how I should lead my life so as to return to the presents of my Heavenly Father again. Of course you know that he does give direction thru his prophet for these things for both you and I for this day and age. I pray that I am humble enough to follow the direction given. Are you humble enough?. It seems you are only hopeful that he will change his mind?
@oc714cal Jackson - Christ also taught while he was walking on the earth about acceptable relationships and behavior as did his apostles - both prior to his Crusifiction and thru his living apostles and Prophet today. 1 cor 6:9 1 Tim 1:10 2 Tim. 4: 3. Homosexuality is opposed to the plan of Salvation. It is a misuse of the tools given to mankind for procreation. You are a son of God just as I am. In Heaven there were 2 choices - 2 leaders. Christ and Lucifer. We both chose Christ in Heaven.
@oc714cal Jackson - the difference between us now is that you no longer follow Christ but follow the promptings of satan. second Timothy 4: 1-7 but especially for you verse 3 & 4. For the time will come with they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their OWN LUSTS shall the heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned to Fables. You have been beguiled as Eve was. read James 3: 15 Jude 1: 19 READ Mosiah 16: 3
@oc714cal: @oc714cal: But please don't classify dear mother Eve's "transgression" with the likes of homosexual sinners' lustful disobedience, because these two are not alike. Remember, Adam & Eve did not sin...they transgressed God's law & ate the fruit for a wise purpose. If you recall the Temple End' you will realize that she & then Adam made a very necessary & crucial decision, breaking one law to gain the necessary knowledge to fulfill another vital law...to procreate/have children. ( ;
@Yunginspirit Yunginspirit - thanks for your input. The only similarity I meant was that she was beguiled. Eve was not at all like unto a homosexual. She would not have eaten of the fruit if not for satan's influence. Jackson and the rest of these sons of God have convinced themselves (with the promptings of satan) that homosexuality is accepted by God - which it is not. They are breaking a commandment second in severity only to murder and hope that the Lord will change his mind. That is sad.
@oc714cal: I understand, but sexual sinners are not 'beguiled' into breaking God's Laws as Eve was. They willingly make that choice to sin, for selfish reasons while Eve transgressed a Law for mankind's benefit. The word beguiled means to be deceived, or be lead from the truth & it was in fact Eve herself who made that statement: Gen 3:13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. (Enjoy the Conference. )
@Yunginspirit You are the disobedient, self-righteous one. God commands you to love and you certainly have not shown that to the least of these as Jesus taught. You might think about that!
@Yunginspirit Man alive you're an absolute bigoted, idiot! To make the kinds of insane, sick and twisted statements against gay people like you have shows just what a creep you really are!
@Yunginspirit Not all people can procreate. You act as though God values you and I primarily on our reproductive capacities. That's pretty sick when you think about it.
@Yunginspirit Not all people can procreate. You act as though God values you and I primarily on our reproductive capacities. That's pretty sick when you think about it.
@oc714cal You don't even know what it means to follow Christ so don't heap this crap on me about being turned to fables, lust, etc. When you learn to love people as Jesus did then come back and strike up a conversation. You're exposing yourself as the Pharisee you are & it's pretty creepy to say the least. Evangelicals have used these verses (you used) against the LDS Church including Joseph Smith for practicing polygamy and marrying 14 yr old girls and women who were married to other men.
@Jacksonholenativ Jackson, If I understand you correctly: 1) you were once a member of the LDS church? 2) you would like to be a member of Christs church again but only if he accepts and allows homosexual behavior? 3) Do you believe the church and its prophet(s) to be true? There is plenty of scripture that describes and declares homosexuality as wrong, a sin, and not accepted by God. Can you show me any scripture that states that homosexual behavior is accepted by God?
@oc714cal I am still a member. The Church as far as it embraces the restored Gospel is true; unfortunately the institutional church have chosen to take away the agency of millions of God's children who are not even LDS, through the prop 8 hoopla and other anti-marriage equality initiatives. That sounds more like the work of the prince of darkness than the work of God.
@Jacksonholenativ you confuse love with acceptance. Certainly Christ loves you - but he does not accept homosexual behavior anymore than he does fornification between straight heterosexuals. There is plenty of scripture and modern day revelation that declares homosexuality to be a sin and an abomination. Is there any scripture that describes the homosexual act/behavior as acceptable by God? If it were would God have not provided a homosexual partner for Adam as well as Eve? Repent
@oc714cal Love also embraces acceptance but is far greater than that. You confuse your pharisaical self-righteousness with love. Jesus loves and accepts God's gay children the way God created us just as He loves and accepts God's other children the way He created them. There is NO modern revelation that even mentions homosexuality. Show it from the Book of Mormon, D&C, PofGP. Prove it. It's not there. I think you're the one who needs to repent of your self-righteous know it all arrogance.
@Jacksonholenativ: The difference is...that the baptism/confirmation would have been done 'in ignorance' of the fact that the Priesthood holder was not worthy to perform the ordinance, whereas the blessing of the father was not. The Bishop (who made a very wrong decision, by pleasing man instead of God) I believe would have had to be reprimanded by the Stake Presidency and justly dealt with.
@Yunginspirit WRONG. Just because the son put his hands on his father's head as he still held the priesthood did not mean that he was acting unrighteously. You sound like a Pharisee and not like Jesus would have been. There are too many modern Pharisees in the LDS Church. They are acting more and more like Christian Evangelicals and not like real Latter-day Saints.
@Jacksonholenativ: The ill father may have have been worthy to hold the Priesthood, but not the son. Therefore, the son should have just stood by as a witness. The Bishop erred in trying to please the father instead of following official Church procedure. If you had studied the Bible at all, you'd know that Christ and Heavenly Father do not approve of sexual sin of any kind. It is an abomination unto God. Sodom and Gomorrah are a prime example of that.
@Yunginspirit Who the hell do you think you are, God? Are you even remotely aware of how people like yourself are the real threats to families? Don't you get it? It's bigotry and homophobia that all too often breaks up families causing immense turmoil. GAY PEOPLE DO NOT CHOOSE THEIR ORIENTATION ANYMORE THAN YOU CHOSE YOURS!!! When gay LDS kids keep killing themselves, and getting kicked out of their families on the street that makes the Savior weep terribly.

@Jacksonholenativ: Don't get angry at me...I didn't make the Laws...GOD the Creator did, so you have to take it up with Him. All I will say is, please prayerfully read and study the scriptures. It is quite natural for some ppl to get annoyed and frustrated when faced with the truth, I understand.
@Yunginspirit "I didn't make the Laws..GOD the Creator did, so you have to take it up with Him." Sorry but I have taken it up with Him many times for decades and He has told me that I am loved just as I am as He created me and that your and the official interpretation of those laws excluding LGBT people is wrong and not in keeping with the law of Christ which is the law of love. It is quite natural for people like you to hang on to self-righteous bigotry in expressing your fear of - the other.
@Jacksonholenativ it is a choice - period! just like killing yourself is a choice. You justifying your sin - your choice. call all the names you want (Pharisee, bigot, homophobe) They called Jesus Christ names too - just as you do. Or maybe a 'thief' pharisee could not help himself - he had no choice but to act on his impulse to steal. If Christ called his actions and behavior out - is he wrong to do so? The same holds true with homosexuality (not the person or soul - but the sin itself).
@oc714cal It is NOT a choice you creep! PERIOD!!! You don't know who we are. Unless you have walked in our shoes you cannot even begin to understand us. You are justifying your self-righteous bigotry, arrogantly and smugly thinking you understand when you do not. Jesus was not a homophobe. Jesus never said one word about the issue of homosexuality PERIOD!! Your comparison between gay people and thieves is sick and shows how dumb and ignorant you are on this subject.
@Jacksonholenativ you assume much. You are in DENIAL of the truth. Christ's apostles spoke plainly that homosexuality was a sin. Christ only spoke of the virtues of his Father's plan for his children - of the marriage & union of Man and Wife (male and female) - ONLY. Never anywhere in scripture is homosexuality promoted, praised or discussed in a positive light. 1 Tim 9 thru 12 especially 10, 1 Cor 6:9, Romans chap 1 especially verses 25-28, 2nd Pet 2: 6-10 .. but chiefly them that walk ...flesh
@oc714cal There are no LDS scriptures that speak about homosexuality. Also the New Testament is not "plain" like you assume that it is on the issue. Homosexuality does not need to be promoted ding dong. It is what it is - attraction toward ones gender as opposed to attraction toward the opposite gender. Also your 2nd Peter passage is about the "lawlessness" of S&G. Again you misuse that scripture like a typical sectarian Evangelical when I thought you were LDS.
@Jacksonholenativ: @Jacksonholenativ: The ill father may have have been worthy to hold the Priesthood, but not the son.
@Yunginspirit Well I guess if a Bishop or other leader was allowing a blessing to happen in "ignorance" that leader must have just not been very inspired then was he? This conversation has Pharisaical religion written all over it.
the parable of the 10 virgins comes to mind - even though the 5 unprepared virgins came to the door - Matt: 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. The Lord's rules are black and white and can not be changed by the whim or in this case lust of mankind.
even though the father - who loves his son and wants him to feel the spirit and participate in his blessing, he also wants him to repent and be fellow-shipped again (to have the authority to participate in an 'Accepted' blessing, say a verbal prayer for a group, partake of the sacrament). The Bishop/church would not participate in a blessing given by one who is practicing sin and unrepentant. More importantly, the Lord would not except this blessing. This gay guy lost his authority by being gay.
@Jacksonholenativ That's great. I would love for you to sit down with that bishop in his office in a private - yet formal interview - and ask the Bishop if homosexuality is accepted or will be accepted of God. I am sure a man worthy to be called and further hold the office of Bishop has to be a very special leader and could present himself in a better way than myself. Believe it or not - I actually care about you. My intentions are for your well being and those others that read these posts.
Thank you for writing and producing this wonderful short film. The LDS church has taken a very strict stance on the issue of homosexuality. But, it gives hope to know that some within the faith will allow their love to transcend the church's ridiculous position. In the film, David is depicted as many of my gay friends are - a man of strong character, obviously holding down a steady job and able to create a loving, committed relationship with another person. That should count for something?
That does count for a lot! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the members of the Church are much too good to allow bigotry to reign in their midst. I think that eventually they will have to start seeking further revelation on this subject as it is sorely needed and will one day be a crucial step in the progress of the Church.
I don't blame you for saying this. Fortunately there is a growing number of Latter-day Saints including leaders (mostly local) who are choosing to go to the side of grace as opposed to judgment on this issue. Carol Lynn Pearson is one awesome example of this. She is very involved in supporting LGBT LDS people.
for goddness sake whats up with all the shoes in a straight line, and yet having a lady who has the voice of a woman whos been smoking for 30 years play the role of a steroe type morman mum.....
If someone who is a practicing homosexual, they would not be allowed to do this.
If they are homosexual, but do not commit any sin that goes along with the tendency, then they can just like anyone else. As long as you live worthily, regardless of tendency.
If a straight person fornicates, they likewise are guilty of the same sin and are not worthy because of it.
@HomesliceDrummer You treat this young man (who could very well have been legally married to his partner in another state) as though he was out with a prostitute or a bath house. Never mind if he is in a loving, caring, committed relationship including a legal marriage to his partner. According to you Pharisees he is still just as guilty as though he went out and had sex with a bunch of prostitutes. I'm sorry but the God of love does not see it that way. Maybe your tyranical god does though.
@Jacksonholenativ God does not honor the laws of man if it goes against his commandments. Gay marraige is not considered marriage to God. It is considered an abomination.
Acts of homosexuality is a sin according to God, whether you want to recognize it or not. You deny the commandments of God and live your own laws. Those that live not according to the word of God will be damned and that's that.
@HomesliceDrummer I know it seems harsh, but living that type of lifestyle is much like a heterosexual committing fornication. It would make one not worthy to excercise his Priesthood. I know gay people are loved by God and should be loved by all. I would sincerely like to understand the point of view from a gay LDS person's point of view if someone would be willing. Thanks.
That would never happen in reality (giving of the blessing like that). There's no way that a Bishop would allow an active gay person or other unrepentant sinner to interfer with the giving of a blessing like this video portrayed. Wishful thinking on the part of gay LDS/sympathizers who made this vid. Unfortunately, they don't understand the Word of God on this subject.
Nothing but a feel good film for sinners! Homosexuality is breaking the Law of Chastity, just as it is for heterosexuals who have sexual relationships out side of marriage. The covenant is to live chaste and celibate unless legally wed to the opposite sex. This video is wrong on so many counts.
David did not belong in the blessing circle, because he no longer had the priesthood. It looked like his sister, with her rebellious attitude, is also on her way out of the Church.
"People inquire about our position on those who consider themselves so-called gays and lesbians. My response is that we love them as sons and daughters of God. They may have certain inclinations which are powerful and which may be difficult to control. Most people have inclinations of one kind or another at various times. If they do not act upon these inclinations, then they can go forward as do all other members of the Church. [cont.]
[cont.] If they violate the law of chastity and the moral standards of the Church, then they are subject to the discipline of the Church, just as others are" —President Gordon B. Hinckley
I have done 2 exorcisms, it is real read my profile. I realize that many of you cant understand as you have demonic forces working inside you, this is why you are here to help perpetuate the conspiracy leading us to the UN one world govt and the kingdom of the antichrist who will be controlling it all.
Daniel 12:10 "Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and NONE of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand"
This short film isn't trying to say that God is or isn't excepting of homosexuality (he leaves that for what ever you believe) but he is saying that God loves everyone as a child of God, regardless of there who they are or what they have chosen (or not chosen) to become. Again, by saying this I am not trying to imply anything like being gay is not ok or is okay) (I, myself and struggling with this very delma in my own life and am still seeking God and hoping that one day he will show me the way)
But just to know that God loves us no matter who we are and what we have become and we are all his Children, that is just something that cannot be taken away from us no matter WHAT we do. God has a plan for all of us, we are all precious to him, no one stands taller than another to Him.
I am a Woman. I want rights too. Notice haw the gal didn't even get the CHANCE, not that she wanted it anyways. But,WHY do WOMEN always get the shaft????
This is probably one of the most profound films that I have ever seen. My father was close to his death bed when he finally acknowledged me. Love transcended belief in my father's case as in this film. Wow is the only reasonable thing that I can say.
which is why he clearly felt that mixture of guilt and gratitude when his father actually asked for him to be in the circle. Guilt because his reasons for wanting to be in the circle were selfish. Gratitude, because his father's love transcended the protocols of the priesthood. The Bishop recognised this, and since the PRIESTHOOD ONLY REPRESENTS LOVE, the protocol was overshadowed by love. It's a beautiful story, and hopefully it has changed lives. Note, the protocols of he church won't change
Just give the church protocols a few years. The protocols changed reguarding race and ordinances have been changed to avoid offending people so I am sure the protocols will change with a little more pressure.
You are mistaken because you think the Priesthood changed to include all worthy males. This was not a protocol. The church did not change the doctrine concerning who could hold the Priesthood out of fear! You clearly don't understand how the church works. Remember, the priesthood can only work when Love is at the centre. The church has never feared the world. Revelation, based on love, helps the church progress.
The priesthood did change to include all worthy males that is the wording in the declaration. The tax exempt status for the church was threatened and the Church could no longer afford to exclude from the priesthood based on race. Same situation with polygamy. The church won't be able to progress until it has a revelation of love allowing gays marriage and priesthood. T
he Lord gave up on all mormon sects around the time Joseph Smith died. We are just like the jews, Jesus has moved onto a group that still listens to Him and will have to come back to us at a later time.
So you speak for a God that gives up on people? Hmm. I believe in a God that does not give up on anyone. I think people ignore God, which results in God not being able to bless them, because He is bound by the laws He's given. Strange judgment you've made, to think members of the LDS church have stopped listening to God. So you think that all the good the LDS church does around the world, is a way of ignoring God.
God was rejected by the Jews, so He moved on to the Gentiles with intention and future plans involving the Jews. In the same way, the Mormons disobeyed and turned from the Lord enough times that because of our inability to follow direct revelations from Him, He has been forced to move onto a different group that He hopes will follow through. This may be the Jews again, or perhaps the descendants of the Lammanites, or even a different group.
Many faiths do good things, that doesn't cause Mormons to thing they have the fullness of the Gospel. Mormons aren't evil for doing good things, yet if we are honest with ourselves Jesus is one of the few to do a good deed without selfish motives.
I think someone was opposed to my use of the word "sect" for the LDS church so I will address that. Joseph Smith in his history used the word "sect" when deciding between all the religious groups. No offense appears to be meant by the word. Because there are so many groups claiming to be Mormon and LDS are one of them, they are all sects of Mormonism. Sect is not a bad word.
I think it worthy to note the attitude of the Bishop. He knows the protocols of the church, and knows that only worthy priesthood holders can administer blessings. The gay son knew that too, and the movie accurately illustrated his disrespect for God's laws when he decided to make a joke of the serious situation by selfishly thinking of his own desire to be a part of the blessing;he just wanted a reaction.Sad he thought of his own wants before his dying Father's needs.
@ MarkieWatch100: Affirmation wishes it could take credit for this film. It was made by Stephen Williams, who graciously allowed us to post it here. Look for his recent short film, "Voicings."

It breaks my heart to see the family (other than the sister) behave in such a manner. The only one who was truly applying what he knew (towards the end) of the church's teachings was the father. It does not matter if you are Gay or Straight, all that matters is that you live a life that you KNOW is meant for you.
Thank you for posting this video.

to Christ teachings then that a lot of problem. in the area we i live we also have gay people who are members and we welcome them even if sometimes we can see them doing things that are not proper outside but then they have all the right to attend church and we are friends to them and offer them church services if they needed one....thank you for your letter:)

the grace can only be affective in our lives if we are worthy. it may be a a free gift from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ but we also have an obligation to do. when God created man in their own image, only two people were created and is just one simple fact that that was the only union God permits. the "gay people" are not a cast away in the church it's the people that judges them not the church but if and if they go beyond like indulges themselves on practices which is contrary

you speak of sexual orientation and grace...this is just my idea of the things you wanted me to understand, to have some attracted to same sex can be considered not proper but the most sinful part is to act on it..you said the scriptures are silent on this..haven't you forgotten about Sodom and Gomorrah? is this not enough reason for people to understand that this is abominable to the sigh of God.

a priesthood blessing is recognize by God if done by worthy male members of His church, how can any man who understand the principle can give a blessing when he knew that he had sin. his blessing is for the sick to be healed of course God in His wisdom would grant it but i think that would be a discredit to the one giving it.

@246Alexandrea i do, power of ones child often overcomes the religion and what ever happened to hate the sin not the sinner
RuralBrett 1 year ago

Rockymtntruth 1 year ago

He never spoke a word about homosexual orientation.

oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal I agree with you that Christ loves sinners and not sin. The difference between us, I suspect, is a difference in the way we interpret the Biblical revelation. I believe that when we see the passages that describe same-sex behaviour, the contexts indicate sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, or religious prostitution (idolatry). In Isaiah and Acts 8, we see God welcoming eunuchs into the community. Eunuchs were sexually active people who did not reproduce. A short though in limited space.
Kharisma1980 1 year ago
@Kharisma1980
Eunuchs were castrated servants so that they could be completely trusted to not procreate. Having been made a eunuch did not make it so that person/slave was a homo? Again, God loves the sinner ... not the sin. the act of Homosexuality is an an abomination in the Lords eyes. It is not accepted

HOLY BIBLE 2 SAMUEL 1:26
"I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women."
That said, well so David loved someone the same gender and that love he felt towards him, Jonathan, was even stronger/higher than what David felt towards women... mmmmmm, doesn't it sound like homosexual love to you?!?
I just wonder why people keep hiding the truth! God bless us all!!!
fabianobra 1 year ago
@fabianobra you confuse love with lust. I have many male and female friends that I love with all my heart. This does not mean that I have sex with them. Of course there is a HUGE difference in your choice of scripture to support your stance where you have David - who was the anointed King (not prophet) of the Lord compared with other scripture in which Apostles, Prophets and God Himself declare clearly (not with vague assumption - like the aspersion that you have cast at Davids feet) it's wrong
oc714cal 1 year ago
@fabianobra the following scriptures in which Prophets, Apostles and God Himself state with Clarity that the behavior that is referred to in our day as Homosexuality is wrong, unacceptable behavior and an abomination.
Gen. 19: 5
Lev. 18: 22 (Lev. 20: 13)(and especially, Lev.18:30) Thou shalt not lie with mankind . . . it is abomination.
Deut. 23: 17 Isa. 3: 9
Rom. 1: 24-27 (especially verse 25)
1 Cor. 6: 9
1 Tim. 1: 10 Jude 1: 7

Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@oc714cal The prophets and apostles have NOT made any of this "clear" as you think they have. Joseph Smith, Jr. never said one word about homosexuality. Since he is the prophet of the restoration and since this issue (homosexuality) was to be so important he would have said at least one thing about it. He didn't even connect it with the traditional Catholic/Protestant Sectarian dogma that homosexuality was the great sin of Sodam & Gommorah.
Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@oc714cal You need to read the original biblical sources and understand that there was no understanding about "homosexuality" like we understand it today. If you trust the modern interpretation of a book from the Bronze Age which has several problems with it and use that book as a weapon to use against gay people then you seriously need to look at yourself in the mirror and ask why you are so homophobic.
Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@oc714cal lol, GOD himself, last time i checked the bible was written by man and there's no real proof its GOD's words cause there's no real proof that GOD even exist, lots of things are wrong but people on seem to reflect on certain things from the bible, adultery is wrong too and the bible says its a sin but you don't see people wanna crucify you for it like they do gay people, everyone is a sinner in some way whether your religious or not and if you say your not, your lying, so quit judging
lovelydiva06 1 year ago

Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago

Its not about the vessel its about the priesthood. A durty sinner can bless the holyest things. The priesthood is no respecter of privilesdge. But the priest can vanish from the man entirely depending upon status with church leaders.
ChildePC 2 years ago
That leads to a very important question. What if someone receives a priesthood ordinance (i.e. baptism, confirmation, etc.) from a priesthood holder who was later found out to have been involved in major transgression? Does that negate the ordinance? Nope it doesn't.
Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@Jacksonholenativ The sinner is now guilty of two sins and will be held accountable. The innocent would not be punished. If a priesthood holder - let alone a leader - knowingly participated with or remained silent knowing that the individual was not worthy to preform priesthood ordinances - then he can expect to share in that sin too. it is not man's law to bend with the tide of mans wants - it is Gods law.

I do not mind being extremely rigid as it is to following the Savior. In that there is safety. As far as my family life while being brought up - not so much. My father was not a member. @oc714cal Yep there are choices and if this young man had chosen to either be celibate (not love or be committed to his loved one) or worse to be married to a woman whom he was not attracted to he would have been miserable. I think the choice is pretty clear and he made the one that was healthiest.
Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@oc714cal Also I have interviewed with many Stake Presidents, Bishops and have studied these issues from the Standard Works and many other LDS sources (including the history of this subject in the LDS Church) for decades. You come in here thinking you know and understand something that you don't know a damned thing about and yet you act as though you do. You're a dumbass if you think you know more about this than gay people do.

@oc714cal stop hiding behind your god and the bible. What you believe in is hate plain and simple, not god or his love.
BloodThirstyScott1 1 year ago
@BloodThirstyScott1 Are there no rules or guidelines for decency? It is not hate that I share - it is truth. You are mistaken - I do not stand behind the Lord and his commandments and hide - I stand in front and He behind me. so given the choice of following God who created all things and is 'our' Heavenly Father ..... or someone called bloodthirstyscott and his god whom is the father of perdition whom is in support of a behavior that is against the commandments of God. I will go with God.
oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal look I think that religion can be a beautiful thing but when people start twisting it around and preaching ignorance it makes the idea of it totally redundant. I didn't ask you to believe in "my god" or me. You don't know anything about me except for that I stand for a belief that supports the rights of the very people that "our" god created.
BloodThirstyScott1 1 year ago
@Jacksonholenativ your definition of 'directly' is a bit off of the mark. What you call 'direct' the rest of the world calls 'Re-Direct'. I ask about a number of specific scripture and your direct answer is to avoid answering specifically on what is asked and site shell fish? So was homosexuality ever considered an abomination - and then per your view - become accepted like eating shellfish? Old testament and New state that homosexuality is a sin. Modern scripture and revelation do too.
oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal I DIRECTLY answered you about those scriptures. Those few and far between scriptures are scriptures that you and several in the sectarian world misinterpret and misunderstand. Eating shellfish was considered an abomination my simple minded friend. It was considered an abomination in Leviticus. You pick and choose the scriptures you want to persecute gay people with and throw out the others that I have sited. U have totally avoided proving your point to me from modern scripture.
Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago

I also don't think you would get along with Joseph Smith, Jr. very well considering how unrigid he was. He hated self-righteous judgmental attitudes.

It seems you are only hopeful that he will change his mind?
oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal Jackson - Christ also taught while he was walking on the earth about acceptable relationships and behavior as did his apostles - both prior to his Crusifiction and thru his living apostles and Prophet today. 1 cor 6:9 1 Tim 1:10 2 Tim. 4: 3. Homosexuality is opposed to the plan of Salvation. It is a misuse of the tools given to mankind for procreation. You are a son of God just as I am. In Heaven there were 2 choices - 2 leaders. Christ and Lucifer. We both chose Christ in Heaven.
oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal Jackson - the difference between us now is that you no longer follow Christ but follow the promptings of satan. second Timothy 4: 1-7 but especially for you verse 3 & 4. For the time will come with they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their OWN LUSTS shall the heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned to Fables. You have been beguiled as Eve was. read James 3: 15 Jude 1: 19 READ Mosiah 16: 3
oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal: @oc714cal: But please don't classify dear mother Eve's "transgression" with the likes of homosexual sinners' lustful disobedience, because these two are not alike. Remember, Adam & Eve did not sin...they transgressed God's law & ate the fruit for a wise purpose. If you recall the Temple End' you will realize that she & then Adam made a very necessary & crucial decision, breaking one law to gain the necessary knowledge to fulfill another vital law...to procreate/have children. ( ;
Yunginspirit 1 year ago
@Yunginspirit Yunginspirit - thanks for your input. The only similarity I meant was that she was beguiled. Eve was not at all like unto a homosexual. She would not have eaten of the fruit if not for satan's influence. Jackson and the rest of these sons of God have convinced themselves (with the promptings of satan) that homosexuality is accepted by God - which it is not. They are breaking a commandment second in severity only to murder and hope that the Lord will change his mind. That is sad.
oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal: I understand, but sexual sinners are not 'beguiled' into breaking God's Laws as Eve was. They willingly make that choice to sin, for selfish reasons while Eve transgressed a Law for mankind's benefit. The word beguiled means to be deceived, or be lead from the truth & it was in fact Eve herself who made that statement: Gen 3:13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. (Enjoy the Conference. )

Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@Jacksonholenativ Jackson, If I understand you correctly: 1) you were once a member of the LDS church? 2) you would like to be a member of Christs church again but only if he accepts and allows homosexual behavior? 3) Do you believe the church and its prophet(s) to be true? There is plenty of scripture that describes and declares homosexuality as wrong, a sin, and not accepted by God. Can you show me any scripture that states that homosexual behavior is accepted by God?
oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal I am still a member. The Church as far as it embraces the restored Gospel is true; unfortunately the institutional church have chosen to take away the agency of millions of God's children who are not even LDS, through the prop 8 hoopla and other anti-marriage equality initiatives. That sounds more like the work of the prince of darkness than the work of God.
Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@Jacksonholenativ you confuse love with acceptance. Certainly Christ loves you - but he does not accept homosexual behavior anymore than he does fornification between straight heterosexuals. There is plenty of scripture and modern day revelation that declares homosexuality to be a sin and an abomination. Is there any scripture that describes the homosexual act/behavior as acceptable by God? If it were would God have not provided a homosexual partner for Adam as well as Eve? Repent
oc714cal 1 year ago

Yunginspirit 1 year ago
@Yunginspirit WRONG. Just because the son put his hands on his father's head as he still held the priesthood did not mean that he was acting unrighteously. You sound like a Pharisee and not like Jesus would have been. There are too many modern Pharisees in the LDS Church. They are acting more and more like Christian Evangelicals and not like real Latter-day Saints.
Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@Jacksonholenativ: The ill father may have have been worthy to hold the Priesthood, but not the son. Therefore, the son should have just stood by as a witness. The Bishop erred in trying to please the father instead of following official Church procedure. If you had studied the Bible at all, you'd know that Christ and Heavenly Father do not approve of sexual sin of any kind. It is an abomination unto God. Sodom and Gomorrah are a prime example of that.
Happy Easter weekend.

Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@Jacksonholenativ it is a choice - period! just like killing yourself is a choice. You justifying your sin - your choice. call all the names you want (Pharisee, bigot, homophobe) They called Jesus Christ names too - just as you do. Or maybe a 'thief' pharisee could not help himself - he had no choice but to act on his impulse to steal. If Christ called his actions and behavior out - is he wrong to do so? The same holds true with homosexuality (not the person or soul - but the sin itself).
oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal It is NOT a choice you creep! PERIOD!!! You don't know who we are. Unless you have walked in our shoes you cannot even begin to understand us. You are justifying your self-righteous bigotry, arrogantly and smugly thinking you understand when you do not. Jesus was not a homophobe. Jesus never said one word about the issue of homosexuality PERIOD!! Your comparison between gay people and thieves is sick and shows how dumb and ignorant you are on this subject.
Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@Jacksonholenativ you assume much. You are in DENIAL of the truth. Christ's apostles spoke plainly that homosexuality was a sin. Christ only spoke of the virtues of his Father's plan for his children - of the marriage & union of Man and Wife (male and female) - ONLY. Never anywhere in scripture is homosexuality promoted, praised or discussed in a positive light. 1 Tim 9 thru 12 especially 10, 1 Cor 6:9, Romans chap 1 especially verses 25-28, 2nd Pet 2: 6-10 .. but chiefly them that walk ...flesh
oc714cal 1 year ago
@oc714cal There are no LDS scriptures that speak about homosexuality. Also the New Testament is not "plain" like you assume that it is on the issue. Homosexuality does not need to be promoted ding dong. It is what it is - attraction toward ones gender as opposed to attraction toward the opposite gender. Also your 2nd Peter passage is about the "lawlessness" of S&G. Again you misuse that scripture like a typical sectarian Evangelical when I thought you were LDS.

the parable of the 10 virgins comes to mind - even though the 5 unprepared virgins came to the door - Matt: 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. The Lord's rules are black and white and can not be changed by the whim or in this case lust of mankind.
oc714cal 2 years ago
even though the father - who loves his son and wants him to feel the spirit and participate in his blessing, he also wants him to repent and be fellow-shipped again (to have the authority to participate in an 'Accepted' blessing, say a verbal prayer for a group, partake of the sacrament). The Bishop/church would not participate in a blessing given by one who is practicing sin and unrepentant. More importantly, the Lord would not except this blessing. This gay guy lost his authority by being gay.

@Jacksonholenativ That's great.

That should count for something?
larryocca 2 years ago
That does count for a lot! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the members of the Church are much too good to allow bigotry to reign in their midst. I think that eventually they will have to start seeking further revelation on this subject as it is sorely needed and will one day be a crucial step in the progress of the Church.

Lol, yeah right.
This would never be allowed.
HomesliceDrummer 2 years ago 2
@HomesliceDrummer You treat this young man (who could very well have been legally married to his partner in another state) as though he was out with a prostitute or a bath house. Never mind if he is in a loving, caring, committed relationship including a legal marriage to his partner. According to you Pharisees he is still just as guilty as though he went out and had sex with a bunch of prostitutes. I'm sorry but the God of love does not see it that way. Maybe your tyranical god does though.
Jacksonholenativ 1 year ago
@Jacksonholenativ God does not honor the laws of man if it goes against his commandments. Gay marraige is not considered marriage to God. It is considered an abomination.
Acts of homosexuality is a sin according to God, whether you want to recognize it or not. You deny the commandments of God and live your own laws. Those that live not according to the word of God will be damned and that's that.
HomesliceDrummer 1 year ago
@HomesliceDrummer I know it seems harsh, but living that type of lifestyle is much like a heterosexual committing fornication. It would make one not worthy to excercise his Priesthood. I know gay people are loved by God and should be loved by all. I would sincerely like to understand the point of view from a gay LDS person's point of view if someone would be willing. Thanks.
LDStothecore 1 year ago

This is probably one of the most profound films that I have ever seen. My father was close to his death bed when he finally acknowledged me. Love transcended belief in my father's case as in this film. Wow is the only reasonable thing that I can say.
Mikemification 2 years ago
which is why he clearly felt that mixture of guilt and gratitude when his father actually asked for him to be in the circle. Note, the protocols of he church won't change
devi8tour 2 years ago
Just give the church protocols a few years. The protocols changed reguarding race and ordinances have been changed to avoid offending people so I am sure the protocols will change with a little more pressure.
Advice4vice 2 years ago
You are mistaken because you think the Priesthood changed to include all worthy males. This was not a protocol. The church did not change the doctrine concerning who could hold the Priesthood out of fear! You clearly don't understand how the church works. Remember, the priesthood can only work when Love is at the centre. The church has never feared the world. Revelation, based on love, helps the church progress.
devi8tour 2 years ago
The priesthood did change to include all worthy males that is the wording in the declaration. The tax exempt status for the church was threatened and the Church could no longer afford to exclude from the priesthood based on race. Same situation with polygamy. The church won't be able to progress until it has a revelation of love allowing gays marriage and priesthood. T

he Lord gave up on all mormon sects around the time Joseph Smith died. We are just like the jews, Jesus has moved onto a group that still listens to Him and will have to come back to us at a later time.
Advice4vice 2 years ago
So you speak for a God that gives up on people? Hmm. I believe in a God that does not give up on anyone. I think people ignore God, which results in God not being able to bless them, because He is bound by the laws He's given. Strange judgment you've made, to think members of the LDS church have stopped listening to God. So you think that all the good the LDS church does around the world, is a way of ignoring God.
devi8tour 2 years ago
God was rejected by the Jews, so He moved on to the Gentiles with intention and future plans involving the Jews. In the same way, the Mormons disobeyed and turned from the Lord enough times that because of our inability to follow direct revelations from Him, He has been forced to move onto a different group that He hopes will follow through. This may be the Jews again, or perhaps the descendants of the Lammanites, or even a different group.
Advice4vice 2 years ago
Many faiths do good things, that doesn't cause Mormons to thing they have the fullness of the Gospel. Mormons aren't evil for doing good things, yet if we are honest with ourselves Jesus is one of the few to do a good deed without selfish motives.
Advice4vice 2 years ago 2
