  • The reason I love tff so much is because of their theory on american music, i 100% agree with them, then it was very conservitave and dry, and even now days it still is, they are afraid of change...

  • Yeah, Roland looked uncomfortable when Curt was criticizing American cities and music. I think Roland was thinking that it's probably not good to insult the places where people are buying your music. Roland has always seemed to be naturally diplomatic and deliberate in speaking, unlike Curt here, who didn't seem to be considering his words very carefully.

  • @eddiesconcern neither of them knew what they were talking about. put these two men in this situation now? they'd probably be working for ron paul.

  • They remind me of Jerry Seinfeld

  • The guy doing this interview in Jonathan King, I recognise his voice. He was big as a band manager, TV personality, interviewer, etc, for many years. He was jailed a few years ago for molesting young boys. He is now totally non-famous. You never see him on TV or hear about him now.

  • @EnglishChannel1 - Not only that, but i've heard that BBC4 have carefully edited him out of the 1976 repeats of Top Of The Pops, now showing on thursday evenings, as he presented some of those too.

  • @jezzyby47 Apparently he complained that the BBC had edited him out of those programmes and the head of the BBC apologised. Copied-and-pasted from Wikipedia:

"In October 2011, BBC Director-General Mark Thompson apologised to Jonathan King. Thompson stated: "We accept that this should not have happened and we would like to apologise for any upset this caused." King had accused the BBC of a "Stalinist" revision of history."..

So even a child molester gets apologised to in this day and age.

  • @EnglishChannel1 - Paedo or not, his take on the BEEB is spot on.

Those illuminati B@stards reported WTC building 7 having come down 20 minutes BEFORE it actually did in 2001. They know way more than they let on, and DON'T report fairly on anything.

  • Why Curt does come off a bit assholeish in this interview.... I am subscribed to him on facebook. And he seems like a good guy, he was young & spoiled at the time. I think he has grown more humble now

  • @gunsnhalen Because Curt is just being Curt. He seem to be very opinonated about how America is. And Roland is being a little more opened minded about the whole thing.

Roland seems like he's ready to put Curt on the floor. He does look incredibly uncomfortable because of how negative Curt is being.

  • Typical comments from the Brits. America sucks, radio sucks like it was all that great in the UK in the 80s.

Funny they had no issue taking Americans money at the shows!

Thanks for sharing this piece of history. I still respect the music of TFF the comments however are rubbish!

  • @hrresonance - Musically the early 80s where one of the best periods in the UK, the country was and still is a shithole though.

  • soooo hot they are

  • long life to tears for fears ... thanks guys for their reconciliation¡¡ :o)

  • hahaha "not anymore!"

  • Comment removed

  • Nice package on Curt but he does hog the moment, negatively. They broke up and didn't speak for nearly a decade. Shocker there...

  • god i love roland's voice.... singing/talking

  • @fennaru thumbs up me tambien (me too) ohh yeahh (Ferris Bueller reference) haha I♥the 80's wish i was around then seemed like a smashing time...

  • It looked like Roland was getting ready to put Curt on the floor because of how negative he was being. I wonder if he would think that the American music scene is boring now that he's lived their for a little while, well, four years and counting anyways?

  • I'm a fan, but they are kind of arrogant which I really don't like.

  • This is embarassing to watch, lol

  • After watching this and other interviews Roland comes off as the kind of people that are very smart and know exactly what to say, when to say it, how to say it to please people. Still love their music. But this is the only interview I've watched that Curt is actually the "overly-confident" one. In all the other ones it's Roland that has that people pleasing attitude. Kinda like the one I used when I wanted my mom to let me go somewhere, I would tell her all the right things she wanted to hear.

  • you can tell they don't like each other

  • oh Curt... that was a pompous statement about American music huh? First he complains about 'American location extremes' then puts down 80's American rock music after sighting only FOUR bands that he doesn't like? Does he even give credit to American Blues / Rock & Roll - the pioneers of which if it weren't for then his recipe of rock wouldn't even exist? He sure didn't complain about the US $ he made though. What an elitist prick! And I thought he was the meek one of the two.

  • @oooowwwwdddd You also have to take in the fact that at the moment, they were on top. They came from a different country and were more popular than the American bands...in America, at the moment. So of course they are going to be cocky about it. They wanted to act like they were humble, but they also wanted everyone to know that they KNEW they were hot.

  • @POSISABI Yeah people always want their music idols to act all "humble" but a lot of that is just fake press stuff anyway. And in any case there's nothing wrong with being self possessed and knowing you're talented.

  • @oooowwwwdddd Personally I'm glad Curt was honest about not liking the American music scene. Rather than be all fake and diplomatic and say "Oh yeah, it's great!" And I'm saying this as an American.

  • @NeverDoubt1 Personally, I don't think Curt was being honest. I think he was being a passively angry spoiled little elitist prick who was exposing his immature insecure discontent with his own artistic accomplishments by putting down others to appear more relevant. I like Tears For Fears, they had some excellent tunes, but they never were on the same artistic level as the musical geniuses with whom Curt would probably find fault. In short, who really cares what he thought about anything anyway?

  • @oooowwwwdddd Well to be fair they weren't really asking him what he thought about the Rock & Roll pioneers, they were asking about the current American music scene as it was in 1985. And it's true that British groups were making a big impact at that time in America.

  • I would be curious to know what Curt thinks of his part in this interview today, being an American citizen and all. I imagine he has changed his opinion somewhat. It is a bit difficult to watch him in this piece as he is overly confident and even rude to some extent. Roland, on the other hand, is wonderful to watch. Whatever he is thinking, he knows how to temper his responses. After all, for all the Curt said, Tears for Fears were ruling the 'conservative' American music scene at the time.

  • God bless Tears for Fears haha <3

  • I like the way they say "which is completely alcohol free" together. :)

  • I love when Roland says "hope dreams" haha

  • @wildly123 "pipe dreams" ;)

  • @darkallie11 Aw you also told me it was pipe dreams! Sorry for not seeing it earlier! Thank you!! haha

  • @wildly123 no problem ;)

  • @wildly123 Pipe dreams. It means dreams that don't ever have a hope of coming true. :)

  • @CelesteK Hahaha OHHHH!!! Thank you for telling me! I would've lived the rest of my life thinking it was "hope dreams". :P

  • @wildly123 LOL!

  • face it, Curt was being an Ass.

    lol

    Roland is more defiant.

  • @TearsforFearsGirl I don't think it was so much that Curt was being an ass so much as it was that he just had to get his point across. I think that to him getting his point across, that the American music scene is boring, :) I think he's got a very valid point. :)

  • haha so funny i love this interview everytime curt answers a question regarding america you can just see it in rolands face hes thinking please shut up just shut up haha he politely descibes the american music scene as conservative were curt doesnt hold anything back by saying its boring lol classic

  • I'm actually kind of reminded of something Roland apparently wrote in his "on the road" diary on an old fansite, that people shouldn't read too much into body language. ;)

  • Roland really does not look happy at Curt's comments. Must have had a row off camera.

  • @TheLeilani32 Yeah. It looks as if Roland was getting ready to punch Curt in the face. :P

  • Right on, Curt! Roland ain't p.o.'d, what are yins talking about?

  • @Ztinkyy Yeah like I said, I don't really feel any tension.

  • Right on, Curt!

  • P.S.: stop badmouthing curt. i don't know what pleasure it gives you but it will get you nowhere. love u, curt and roland, my idols forever. more music from TFF, please?

  • Awww, at 1:23 Roland stifles a tiny yawn. How cute :)

  • I don't really get the impression they're about to argue; Roland seems to agree with what Curt's saying and makes very similar points (though perhaps in a more diplomatic way). It's just that Curt was being a bit more assertive in the conversation.

  • I dont know but curt pushed it too much.I am not American, and i hate the American government, but its no time to get political, but i dont think its good to just talk about a country like that.I mean Roland had alot of respect for the country, and tried to keep things low, while Curt pushed it further forcing Roland to keep up with the level.I could tell this was leading to the argument.

  • Ducky?

  • @beowulven Lol, I thought he was Duckie originally too. But then I thought "Wait, Duckie's not English" lol

  • This is a painful interview to watch as it was made at just about the time when Curt Smith was becoming a bit of an asshole. Prior to the band's success in America in 1985, Smith was always quite demure and likeable. But here, the attitude is totally "look at me, I'm a big star, I can say what I like". The hair, the expensive leather jacket, and the even the way he is sitting and conducting himself just add to the image of someone who thinks he has become king of the world. He ruined TFF.

  • @Chorltonia oh please....this was not filmed 'yesterday'. u know how people are when they're young...candid, spunky, straightforward. as i've said in my earlier comment, this was just part of curt smith being young. in other interviews of them, it was perceived that curt was the more approachable of the two. but hey, this was taken decades agooooooooooooooooo!

  • @MsPink68 oh get a grip. You act like Curt Smith was a child when he filmed this. HE WAS 24! And prior to TFF's success in the US, Curt Smith was nowhere near as arrogant as this - so it has nothing to do with age and everything to do with being an big-headed arsehole who very much needed to keep himself in check. I'm not surprised his first wife left him, he must have been insufferable to live with. You only have to look at his personal website to see he hasn't really changed that much since.

  • @Chorltonia wow! u talk as if u personally know him. and u act as if it is the 1980s! get a reality check man! i find u funny reacting this way TODAY because im sure you yourself is no longer young. but this was filmed when curt was only 24, as u have just mentioned and probably didn't know better. if u hate curt smith, then don't watch his videos. that will make life easier for u. but so sorry u cannot keep him separate from roland orzabal bcoz they're the dynamic duo! gosh.....

  • @MsPink68 you sound like an idiotic child defending her idol in the school playground to the last breath. GROW UP! I have a ton of TFF interviews on video from the 80s, and its easy to see the changes in Curt Smith during that period. Intelligent and modest to begin with, then boom! Total egomania. But being 24 is no excuse - he wasn't a kid. And FYI, this is a TFF video, not a Curt Smith one, though it is an unfortunate reminder of what Smith became. And he wasn't even the talent of the group.

  • @Chorltonia hahaha! u should be the one who must grow up! ur d one who is idiotic. it's very clear u hate curt smith AND YET U SAY U HAVE TONS OF TFF INTERVIEWS ON VIDEOS? U MEAN U WATCH SOMEBODY U DONT LIKE AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN? WELL THEN UR CRAZY! any TFF video will surely have a curt smith face in there except of course if it is a solo interview of roland. shake ur brains! it's 2010, man! MY GOSH, U ARE TIME WARPED IN THE 1980S! MOVE ON!

  • Comment removed

  • @MsPink68- you're obviously too stupid to understand simple English. My original posting stated this interview was done around the time when Curt Smith started to change for the worse. Did I say it was from this year? No. Did I say we were still in the 1980s? No. Did I say I watch videos of just Curt Smith again and again? No. Since you can't even construct proper sentences and spell correctly, it's not hard to see what an utter moron you are. Get off the net and back to school where you belong.

  • @Chorltonia hahaha! u are full of hatred and u saw this video where u can vent ur unfathomable hatred for the world. and y do u have so much hatred for curt smith? were u someone he dumped from the 80s? u are NOT A FAN OF TFF AND DONT PRETEND TO BE ONE bcoz true fans of TFF wouldn't hate curt or roland so much as to lambast them here! u have so many issues about yourself. now go back to school and learn "anger management". y-o-u a-r-e c-r-a-z-y! i pity you

  • @MsPink68 You are simply too ridiculous to even bother talking to. The very nature of your messages tells me that you are either a schoolgirl, or slightly retarded. As for me, I don't have hatred or anger issues, but I do not tolerate fools gladly. That includes Curt Smith during this interview, and you on this message thread. I can understand why you worship him so much though because it takes an arsehole to love an arsehole. Now go and take your meds. Over and out.

  • @Chorltonia i saw ur other comments on other videos of TFF and if there is one person whom i encountered as utterly pathetic, ridiculous and unbelievable, it's YOU. seriously, try considering 'anger management'. in that way, u will discover why you have a deep and unfathomable hatred for someone who does not even know your existence. if roland and curt can only see this video and read ur comments, they will surely die laughing. have some soul searching. tsk! tsk! tsk!

  • @MsPink68 - Are you still babbling on? Shut the fuck up and go away.

  • @Chorltonia oh, ur back? i thought u said over and out. YOU GO AWAY! u hate CS but you keep visiting this video. go see a psychiatrist and zip your mouth forever. u suck. be gone, get lost and don't come back anymore! good riddance!

  • @MsPink68 GO AWAY! Nobody is interested in your juvenile infatuation with Curt Smith or in your idiotic opinions.

  • @Chorltonia haha! grow up old woman! CS is a happy and contented man. what with the restored friendship with roland. and what about you? still harboring ill-feelings with someone who does not even know you exist? a feeling that stemmed from 1985?! u really make me laugh! my idiotic opinion? excuse me? i make more sense than you do. IMMATURE is another adjective for you. Ho-hummm...! by the way, so many people have sent me personal messages sending me friend invites bcoz they agree with me.

  • @MsPink68 WHY are you still talking? The more you say, the more of an idiot you appear to be. Who the hell cares if other idiots want to be your friend, you moronic child. You need to get over your ridiculous infatuation with Curt Smith because it just makes you look like a pathetic imbecile worshipping her teen idol. Of course, that's exactly what you are, and your juvenile stupidity is right here for everyone to see.

  • to @Chorltonia oh, ur still alive?! seriously old woman, it's u who should stop talking. u know why? because u look and sound so PITIFUL. imagine! from 1985 to 2010?! get over it! u call me stupid but the readers' think u are the stupidest creature on earth alive. and who are u to dictate to me that i stop admiring curt? who do u want me to admire? you? a pitiful, bitter, time-warped creature from Mars? again, if u have nothing nice to say about curt and the world, then SHUT UP

  • @MsPink68 - I've come to the conclusion that you must be Curt Smith's 10 year old daughter and have come on here sticking up for daddy because he made a fool out of himself in public. Awwww....boo-hoo.

  • @Chorltonia bwahahah! now, you are trying to include even curt's innocent daughter in your unexplainable hatred for the world. poor, poor you! really PITIFUL. from what mental asylum did u come from? your case is extreme. how dare you include even the child. the world will never forgive you for that. what the hell is your problem? CURT DOES NOT KNOW YOU FROM HELL. ur demolition job on him will not work and don't include his family here. PLEASE, GO SEE A DOCTOR NOW, FOR YOUR OWN GOOD.

  • @MsPink68 - How dare I include the child??? The world will not forgive me??? HAVE YOU EVEN READ THE UTTER CRAP YOU ARE WRITING??? You're a stupid, brainless, emotionally unstable IDIOT.

  • @Chorltonia oh, u deserve all the 'utter crap' i said about you! because you are a stupid, brainless, emotionally unstable idiot. hahaha! yeah, the world will not forgive you. never! because you included in your tirades an innocent child. i told you, go and see a doctor. it will help, really!

  • @MsPink68 Is that the best you can do? Just constantly repeat what I have said to you like a parrot and go "ha ha ha" like a demented imbecile? You're obviously too retarded to even write properly. You poor, sad, pathetic bitch. Thank you for proving to us all what kind of morons Curt Smith has as his fans.

  • @Chorltonia u know y? bcoz everything u say to me here BOOMERANGS to u. u r a cavewoman bcoz u don't know that the reason y i shorten my words here is bcoz of the limited space 4 characters. this is what u call the net and text lingo, moron. i think u are a grouchy old woman. ok then, stay that way while curt smith and all of us continue with our peaceful, accomplished lives. thank u also for showing the whole world WHAT A VERY BITTER AND GROUCHY PERSON YOU ARE. HAHAHA!

  • @MsPink68 You become even more childish with every message, and your last message was something that a 6 year old might say (though a 6 year old would have better spelling and grammar). Thank you for amusing us all by proving that you are the village idiot. Your parents must be so proud. And now that everyone can see what a retarded imbecile you are, my work here is done. Goodnight Seattle, we love you!

  • @Chorltonia oh yeah? someone who harbors a LONG TIME UNREASONABLE ANGER is the one who's childish. and you excellently demonstrated it here. me, village idiot?! haha! what about you? you are a universal idiot! one more final advice, GO TO THE DOCTOR NOW. SWEAR, IT WILL HELP YOU. hope you will seriously consider it

  • @MsPink68 Yeah that's one thing about the Internet, clips from years ago suddenly get new life again and I think we all forget sometimes how long ago they were. And I agree, 24 is still pretty young, you're still trying to find yourself and having to answer the same clique questions again and again would make anyone bored, but particularly young guys I imagine, heh.

  • @Heralde8 thanks 4 ur point of view. what really makes me laugh is that people forget that youtube is a time machine of PAST EVENTS that what people were, 20 years ago are no longer the same people now. some people seem to blow things out of proportion that it would seem as if what curt said here was a CRIME. westerners are known for being straightforward but over the years we have seen how curt mellowed. even gary kemp of spandau said that wen ur young, u are more honest than diplomatic

  • @MsPink68 Exactly, and seriously, did that interviewer just step out of 'A Hard Day's Night?' I mean his question was the classic "It was a train and a room, and a car and a room, and a room and a room." Lol

But anyway, that's how young people are, it's the one time in life where you feel entitled to say whatever you want, because the rest of the world doesn't have a clue. Of course we lose that as we get older, but perhaps we shouldnt. ;)

  • @Heralde8 yeah. some individuals are so hard on other people as if they don't make mistakes at all in life. why can't people distinguish past from present? and why can't some people MOVE ON? (like this creature called chorltonia). no one and i mean no one will say that curt smith is a bad person. and im referring to the present time. chorltonia speaks as if she knows curt smith on a personal level, making so much fuzz about this interview that took place in 1985. repeat, 1985!

  • @Chorltonia I think it was Roland that ruined TFF with his attitude. But I still love his voice and Curt's too

  • I'm American and it's true, some states are particularly conservative, others more liberal. So I can understand someone from outside the US being surprised by that.

  • YOU CAN TELL ROLAND DOESNT LIKE HALF THE THINGS CURT IS SAYING.....LIKE WHEN CURT IS TALKING ABOUT LAS VEGAS AND REO SPEEDWAGEN.....AWESOME VID!! IT SHOWS THAT THE SPLIT WAS COMING....

  • im from argentina but i think the artists from England were allways the most creative, for me the rock and pop music has started with the beatles no doubt the best band ever and the most influential. This band is one of the best and was the most innovative trough the 80s

  • when i was young, i thought these two were BROTHERS!

  • I have huge soft spot for Roland. I think his voice is magnificant and what a writer and musician he is. Not a bad looker as well. JUST LOVE HIM!!!!!

  • @caitlinniamh I'm really surprised I'm only just learning about TFF now, but yeah Roland is very cool. I almost kind of wish I was a teenager back in the '80s, hehe.

  • Poor Curt! It's really hard when you're growing up in the public eye. I'm imagining that if he sees this interview now, he might saying what was I thinking while scratching his head =).

  • I think Roland almost wants to punch Curt here hahaha!

  • roland was speechless in the last seconds...probably can't believe how straightforward and candid curt can get...if he can only zip curt's mouth here...hahaha! oh...i love these guys so much...

  • it's funny how some people react negatively on curt on this video as if this was filmed only yesterday....this was just part of him being young...curt smith is a good person

  • @MsPink68 I agree. Everyone's attacking Curt! He was just being his young self. He seems to have developed pretty well today! I love both Roland and Curt anyways.

  • super cute..like 20 years ago lol

  • Curt is somewhat annoying! i know this was a long time ago and i'm sure he's changed since, but...wow. I'd be annoyed as well! Roland seems very quiet and a little more professional and...to himself. but Curt seems arrogant and cocky. that would be super annoying. i couldn't keep a band going w/ someone like that.

  • wow! talk about the the body language! I think this is exactly when the breakdown happened!!!

  • THEY'RE BOTH SO CUTE!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • there were great bands on both continents in this era. UK did not have them all. Toto, Boston and REO were great bands , in my opinion, as were Journey and many others. And they didn't sound all the same. But everyone is entitled to their opinion I suppose.

  • 80's RULE...no doubt about it

  • roland is so freakin cute!

  • @headothecurve I'm so glad i'm not alone here lol whoo he's a looker ;D ♥ TFF and Roland Orzabal I'm sure he's still a great person

  • I WOULD DO BOTH OF THEM

  • @r3n3369 back in those days they were both HOT, now I would only do Curt ;) Roland looks very old!!!

  • I think that if he was referring to the American-rock music / pop-mainstream, then yes back in 85' it was pretty much regurgitated 70's classic rock. Though inspite of this, American music is still responsible for everything that British artists has brought back to the States, merely improving upon the sound. In 85', Michael Jackson was huge. The punk rock scene in New York City was huge, both scenes were dynamic, new, and exciting. Curtis is a prude who listens to the radio all day.

  • The Hurting is one of my fave albums of all time. That was a heavy album to create for such a young artist as Roland was at the time.

I do think they were right about the American music scene. It was pretty sterile and boring. I always thought the true genius always did and always will come from afar. With the exception of U2 - the biggest and most boring band in the world.

We had a few shining moments.

The hurting was just so ground-breaking.

I'm American, and I approve this message.

  • @bfall66 Haha I approve it as well dude.

Although I enjoyed "Big Chair" better, personally.

  • @008fox - Big Chair is definitely a great record, no doubt. The Working Hour still gives me the chills when I listen to it. I think they had a lot more fun with that record. It was a welcome change, and every artist has to grow.

But for me, The Hurting hits really close to home with all the shit I was going through at that period in time. It's like an old friend who got me through it, and we still keep in touch. Damn, that's so gay!

But seriously, it's strange how music can effect you.

  • Right, I feel that way with some albums.

The comforting thing is no one can take those memories away from you. (No homo)

  • @008fox - Yep. You can take my girlfriend, but don't mess with my record collection!!

  • Had no idea these guys were from england..god were good!

  • UAHAHHA They were so young and imature! I suppose they wouldn't say the same about America nowadays. But it is good though, they were themselves and straight foward just like any freak british. Back then there were no celebrities coach that would guide you through each and every word you must say, or each and every peace of cloth you should wear...good!

  • I love this interview so much <3

  • wow, curt was waaay to confident with himself lol, to be honest i find roland more cool, i love how he dances, sings etcc

  • Wow, Roland did NOT like that Curt was being alittle too opinionated. Roland probably agreed, but, he's trying to have a career - Roland didn't want to offend Americans, thereby hurting sales...you could see he was nervous by Curt's words.

  • Yes- you could definitely see it... I don't think it was the fact that he had an opinion :P just what it WAS... especially while they were doing an interview which is sort of a type of promo.. while I love Tears for Fears (and Roland!!! :P ) I don't know if they would have been as big as they were without having cracked the American market/music scene... but maybe they could.. because they're so massively TALENTEDDDDDDDDDDD!! :D :D

    Ahh well :D :D

  • I just love that fact that they both speak theirs minds... we need that in real artist... who also care about their work and fans.

  • @DiamondHobbit

I would't read too much into this one..just sayin'. I mean Roland was just on "standby" .."lol".. there wasn't anything too obvious, to me. I still like Roland a lot.

  • I love Roland! :D

  • i like the way he spoke his mind its hard to find that in musicians except the gallaghers tho ha

  • 24 year old Roland

  • he was 24 there? i always thought he was 23. how old was Roland in 1983?

  • 22 before august 22. 23 after.

  • wow :D awesome!! thanks for telling me xoxo

  • Point taken though, the UK bands in the 80s were more innovative in my opinion too, and you missed the best band from that period which was Japan.

  • Yeah true thing. Talking Heads I would consider more 70s based. I just think alot of the 80s American scene was very corny and is to blame for the majority of people believing the 80s is a throw-away decade, which we all know it so isn't! :)

There are some good American 80s stuff, of course, but for the most part, the exports were Pointer Sisters esque stuff.

  • @jezzyby47- I don't think Japan was the best band from that period. I am quite familiar with their work and I have got their 'Tin Drum' album (which I think is a unique album of the time). Having said all that, they were not that great as you say. They did certain things that were unusual and they had an awesome rhythm section but that doesn't make them that special on the whole.

  • All you have to do is compare such artists as Tears For Fears, Duran Duran, U2, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie with what the 80s american market was producing: Toto, Laura Branigan, The Bangles, Starship, Europe, Kenny Loggins!?

It's a no-brainer. If you want decent music in America, you have to search deeper than the mainstream cos the mainstream is so corny. And what is so bad? GREAT UK and elsewhere artists have to really fight to make it intot he charts with that crap

  • Europe (The final countdown) are from Sweden or somewhere like that, not American. There were some good American bands at that time too, you just haven't really mentioned them. Hall & Oates spring to mind, and aren't Talking Heads and Blondie American?

  • Yeah Japan are in my top 3 bands. I knew I was missing someone.

  • Comment removed

  • All I can say is Hallelujah because someone in the business finally says this out aloud! Thankyou, Curt.

  • I can agree with what Curt says.

Everyone knows (except for jaded record execs and teenie boppers) that the American music scene is far more mainstreamed than music of the UK, especially since the 80s until now.

Compare Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift (who have immense popularity in the US) with UK or elsewhere artists like Ladyhawke, La Roux and Little Boots. The last 3 are much better artists than the first 2, yet have only minimal popularity in the US compared to Miley and Taylor.

  • OMG, i just noticed something in the HOH video, and to think I've had it for since late 80's. At 3:52 when Ian walks up to the librarian in the background, behind Roland, her desk was full of books that Roland had just dropped off. Next take, it is all clear for the flying keyboard to land... so two magic tricks in one =D

  • Roland is more diplomatic thats for sure!

  • Ro is well ticked off with Curt. You can tell that there would be an argument when the cameras stopped rolling from Ro's body language. Or maybe he would just give Curt a dirty look.

  • Yeah, I got that vibe too. He looked a bit annoyed.

  • I keep watching Curt butt in and share his opinion and Roland is just like: -_-

    It makes me giggle, LOL.

  • I love how Curt says "Las Vegas is one of the places that I never want to go back to again." Yet this past July they played a gig at the GVR.

  • Oh the irony, lol.

I was actually thinking that to myself as I watched this video a while ago, haha.

  • This is a great interview! Curt is a bit negative and Roland seems the more mature of the two! Cuter too.

  • Mastersheer! I responded your email just second ago... hope you checked.

  • No it's Roland butting in.

  • I don't want to sound weird or rude but curt farted in 0:25...I think that is so funny! he made roland talk...am I wrong to hear it?

I can't do anything but laugh!!

thank for uploading. this is really good interview. hope people don't think I am being rude.

  • Are you for real????

  • thanks for the vid. :0)

  • Reminds me of the interviews in the DVD "Scenes from the Big Chair"...footage of their '85-86 (?) 18 month long tour. Highly recommend buying it if you don't already have it! Great post...thanks for sharing.

  • this is such a terrific interview with the both of them at the height of their fame! Surprisingly, there are so few videos of them being interviewed on youtube with them in this era and talking together. So wonderful, thank you so much!!! Roland's voice is so scrumptious!

  • Wow, Curt certainly had some opinions he wasn't afraid to share back then!

  • Love this kind of surprise, when you get on youTube with no expectations other than check your fav TFF videos and... bang! You bump into something rare and great. Thanks, Jezzy, for the awesome surprise!!!! Butterfly

  • I haven't listened to anything on Top 40 radio in quite some time. All that Top 40 radio is is absolute shit.

I'd rather listen to songs that have some substance to them.

  • I dont know why people keep rating you down, CelesteK, but I agree with you. =)

  • Thank you bbbb666888888845. I know why they keep rating me down.

They think I'm making fun of them and I'm not.

  • Hmm this is a really interesting interview. Curt really wasn't dissing America, just the music. But I have to disagree with him on one thing...I don't think American music sounds any less alike than British music, especially music from that era. Great interview by the way. Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for the awesome video! One more to my TFF collection! The best band of the World! I love you my boys!

P.S - Roland, I absolutely love your voice, dear.

    =)

  • Actually Curts Right About American Music. I'm From Milwaukee WI & All I Listen To Is All The British Bands Like Pink Floyd & Talk Talk ETC. They Are Way More Unique

  • To be fair, he said some places were shitholes and others were the best places he'd been to. It's the same everywhere really. There are good and bad parts in every country in the world.

  • Most comprehensive interview I saw of them so far!

  • Apparently Curt got over his distaste of the USA since he now lives here with his family.English snobbery!

  • You quite right there but Curt's point about music from America back then was spot-on!
