the sex pistols were not the first punk group, the first to get noticed widely yeah but iggy and the stooges? lou reeds early stuff maybe? the doors to an extent? all that could be considered early punk if you put it in the right extent plus there was a punk scene going in london for litrally years before the pistols, gen x, the banshee's, the slits etc etc

Ramones was the first punk band, but the Sex Pistols REFINED and REDEFINED what punk was about.

New York Dolls 1971 were before the Ramones, and everyone copied the schtick from them, kiss, bowie,television ramones, blondie, talking heads followed.
