  • they are a good bike, first two stroke iv owned is one of these, the dg pipe+muffler make a good power increase too, v-force 3 reeds also go good on them, the standard drum brake fronts on these are deadly tho, need to upgrade mine soon, had way too many near-misses

  • this is the kind of bike i dream of, only water cooled. lol i want to make custom bikes out of newer engines and frame designs with old school aesthetics.

  • Lovely bike. My first bike I bought out of my wages was a 1982 IT175J, wish I still had it. Always wanted a 465 or 490 though, :)

  • Beautiful bike. The IT490 is on my wish list of bikes I've always wanted. Great color, awesome sound, it reminds me of my childhood when these things roamed the woods!

  • loved the big blue IT's great bikes

  • really nice and clean.take care of it!!

  • im diggin the van in the back ground...

  • YZ 490 engine with diferente gear box, great bike

  • IT 175 and 200 ae best ! 490 is cool to, but maniobrability is 175 200 or 250 no more than that.

  • super cool what year

  • Well they don't make seats that wide on a dirt bike anymore do they? As the human race gets fatter, the dirt bike seats get narrower, what gives?

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love the ktm fork/disk brake swap

  • Ride the damn thing

  • the forks dont look original

  • @domandybiking

    That'll be because they aren't.

Although i'd prefer to have kept it as original as possible, the USD forks kind of mix in well.

  • !!FREAKING AWSOME BIKE MAN!! I have an 81 250, its no 490 but i still love it.Hang on to that mate, they very hard to find now, let alone in that condition.

  • BRaaaaaaaaaaaat! brat!

  • That sounds freaking sweet!!!!! I love it!!!!!

  • lovly bike....and nice bedford cf too! Must be in NZ or Aussie cos in England the van would be a pile of rust on the floor now!!!

  • SAAAAAAAAAAAAWEEEEEEEEEEEET

  • the 1984 it 490 is the king of the desert, you can't beat its big bore 2 stroke broad power-band. the only problem with the bike is drum brakes,i don't mind how heavy the bike is compared to the lack of brakes. the gearing is awesome mated to its neck snapping power plant. to bad they don't build bikes like that anymore just a little lighter with disk brakes, thats all i want and need.

  • @miCOCnU ive had mine since new and the double leading shoes on these bikes when kept properly adjusted are just as good i bought my friends 490 recently and he moved on to a newer bike with discs and the only difference he noted is that you can feather on the discs on a down hill trail better than the shoe. i took his old 490 and put a front disc from a 86 yz and i didnt weigh everything but the swap adds about 3/4 of a pound with the heavy caliper and steel disc over the stock magnesium shoes

  • I owned a IT 175 when it first came out,I loved that bike, what a great woods/all arounder it was,I loved riding it at night.

  • I know I used to own one.

  • thats a sweet bike , glad to see people with nice clean old bikes . Most of em you see on here are worn out rigged up garbage.lol

  • looks like the creepy asian guy from the movie hotrod ha ha

  • Why spend $2000 on a lightweight, easy to start 2 stroke when you can spend $10,000 on a 300-lb biatch 4stroke that stalls out on the first hill?? BTW didn't know DG still made pipes for it.

  • @Uncle5cary you are a dumbass the yamaha it is 2 stroke

  • Scary stuff

  • a real bike has the exhaust on the left.

  • front and back disk brakes? inverted forks? holy shit thats awesome!

  • nice bike. i have the same one what year is it

  • Had 1 of these bout 12 yrs ago and theyr'e awesome. its so clean i wouldn't wanna take off-road. Discs make it look so modern.

  • nice bike

  • damm 2stroke 500cc air cooled thats beast!!! makes me miss my it200

  • There is no reason after those suspention mods that your IT shouldn't be able to stand up to a modern motorcrosser.

"I would even put my money on that IT :) "

  • @Agamum there is a reason though a modern bike has greatly evolved since this IT was a new bike. frames and positioning of the motor and all the other componets on the frame today alow the bike to handle much better than older bikes also most bikes today have aluminum perimiter frames with the exeption of ktm. my point is if u put the same rider on this bike and then a new mx bike they would be faster and more comfortable on the new bike. nice bike though

  • @RamRodRacer i have a 490 and the seat is awesome all day rider no new seat is that soft.ouch, bikes have evolved and are easier to control, but i regular out do alot of people i ride with cause ive learned to ride this thing, its a real front heavy machine with a heavy flywheel it has the touque of a 650 four stroke wich four stokers dont want to hear, i can scream up hills or challenge friend to go up in first gear or second or third where they cant . super slow or 100mph all stock i love it!

  • love it!!!!

  • That bike is awesome. I always wanted an IT 200 -- of course, the 490 beats all. It's a damned shame they're no longer made. Yours looks amazing, BTW.

  • Beautiful bike! My first bike was a IT175, sold it for nothing, didn't know what a gem I had!

  • Dude , oh man!!! I love this bike, just wow!! It really looks good with disc, nice job!

  • That is a bad asss rebuild. It looks so cool with disk brakes. Shes is a blast fom the past.

  • bad as bike bro i got a yamaha tt250 but id rather have one of these lol

  • thats a clean bike

  • mean pipe, my dad has the stock one on his, it backfires and its f*kin loud

  • I love it how the exhaust pressure shakes the rear platics especially thin ones, 2-stroke BANG!

  • that is one odd looking bike but in a cool way X)

  • Thats a badass bike man. I have owned a 82 YZ490J and a 81 IT465. Both of them were totally awsome machines!

  • man that is a super clean 490

  • Nice bike I got 1 too and what did u put on it because mine doesn't have a electric start btw what year is it

  • Where did you get the pipes for this bike. ?

  • HEy IT490k,

That is truly one of the best 490's iv'e seen to date!

We should be paying to see such blue gold!

  • i need a 1980 yz 465 after market silencer pref. fmf dg bills watev

  • Great to see such a great sample of the legendary IT !

It's in my ' top 10 bikes ' that i'd love to fully restore.

Of course, most of it will never happen damn it due to the $ and hassle of parts and time.

If i can just walk away with the kx500 83' or 84' finished i would consider myself fortunate.

  • How did you setup that rear disc brake ?

  • Brings back sweet memories! Are you holding onto the seat because left on it's stand the bike kinda just shuffles up the road by itself? Mine used to, leave it running to grab my helmet and when Igot back the thing was metres away from where I left it! Gotta love big bore strokers.

  • @Grantly46 Strokers means 4-strokes dude

  • @theninja001 Not from where I am, strokers are 2 strokes or cars with engines having been "stroked" for more capacity. No sweat bud the world is a big place ;)

  • @Grantly46 Sorry, I keep forgetting you tube is worldwide!!

  • I have a 1978 yz 400e and it has 40hp at the crank, which translates to about 36.5hp at the wheel. The IT is a trail version of said bike, and would have been detuned in comparison to the YZ.These bikes were also heaaavy!!!!

  • what are ya gorking at the motor for?

    Ride it ya tool!

  • wow thats a small bike for a 490. but it looks good

  • great lookin bike!

  • nice bike.....not as cool as the yz490 though.

  • Just to clarify, this is indeed a 1983 IT 490, correct?

  • i got a it200 85 model runs great but had carb cleaned and now leaks gas thru overflo tubes constantly when gas is on tried adjusting float any ideas

  • yes, rubber piece on the needle is shot

  • Where did you get the disk brakes from? is there a conversion for IT's of that era or is it from a newer model and moded to fit?

  • man thats a sweet bike, dont ever get rid of that thing its the best! nice man still in good shape! nice

  • hallo aus Germany ,

die Scheibenbremsen sind zwar nicht orginal , aber eine gute Idee , besonders vorne .

    Viel Spass mit dem Boliden.

    Gruss

    Gerd

  • Hey Man ! My second comment her I guess.

Hope you still have that Beauty (or at least got a GOOD-Fat Price for Her :)

    S!

  • Awsome Bike. Great work getting it to that condition. These bikes (IT490, YZ490 and WR500s) are worth a bit these days, in that condition i bet youd get a decent amount for it.

  • I noticed someone put the forks on upside down! Nice Bike! Go the IT's.

  • oh ya, they are sorry about that!

  • Wow that thing is in great shape! Had an 82 it490 myself. What a beast it was. Ruined a coupe pairs of soft soled boots kick starting the damned thing, lol

  • lol we still have an 82 it 490 and god damn it you have to lean ours on a tree and just about jump to start the bitch, lol

  • I owned a '82 YZ490. Man what an overweight sled that was. Got an '83 CR480 after that. Man what a dream ride that was. Lighter, nimbler, and just as quick. 490's are pigs.

  • The 83 CR 480 was pretty special, probably the best year for big bore air cooled honda's. The 450 was terrible, the 82 480 only had a 4 speed and still had drums. For whatever reasons the Yamaha 490s were sort of hit or miss from year to year. The 465 always seemed very solid for the couple years it was around. I have never seen a IT 425 but heard good things about them.

  • oooh, ahhhh..... Your first top-end rebuild impressive!!

  • they dont even make a fuel injected crf!!!!!! the only fuel injected durtbike would be those larger sized ktms!!

  • the 09 crf450's are fuel injected

    look it up

  • they do make fuel injected crf450r......only the latest race versions

  • IT are the best.....

    nice bike man looks mean!

  • vERY COOL 2 STROKE. AIR COOLED 490'S ROCK DUDE. i OWN A 92 WR500, A 91CR 500, AND A 1985 YZ490 DRAGBIKE. I LOVE'EM.

  • Sorry to butt in guys.

IT490K cheers for posting the vid, it's great to hear a 490 ting-tinging away again! Kudos for the rebuild, especially the front end.

  • lmao! it's funny when pre pubescent individuals turn a comment page into a flame war.

  • crf 250 you ride whos the pansie now lol.

  • USA isnt shitty.

  • You find new plastics?????

  • 490 with f+r discs and inverted forks. nice!

  • Really nice looking bike man. I still wish I had my 1983 IT 250.

  • I rode the 250 once back when I friend of mine purchased one way back in March 83. That was a real sweet bike. I had my eye on the 83 IT 175 at the time though, just wasn't lucky enough to come up with the cash for it. I remember the price too, it was $1749.00

  • No joke this machines make over 40 horse power stock.

  • The IT 490 was making 35 HP with 31 ft lbs of torque so no WAY this one was making 40 HP. This one was making a bit less. I believe it was around 29 HP. Great bikes , the whole IT line.

  • just wanted to know where you got ya specs from i've been trying to find something on the it490k but haven't had any luck

  • I got my specs from the March 1983 issue of Dirt Rider Magazine

  • nice exhaust...im getting the same pipe and silencer for my 480 whenever i get my tax refund

  • Used to have a 465, fuckin brutal machine!

  • The 465 was actually faster than the 490. It had more of a top end hit. Same with the yz 465 compared to the yz 490. The YZ 465 was fast even by todays standards, maybe even faster than what exists off road today. It was too fast actually and the top end hit was deadly brutal.

  • I remember (1986 or so) riding our IT 465 wfo on a gravel road. The465 had no speedo, but my 79 250 did, and I just knew I was pushing 85-90 mph.

I had an epiphany, and saw myself sliding down that gravel road on my butt. My biking tapered off a bit after that.

The 465 was a monster. Shift to 3rd (at about 40 mph) roll on the throttle and the front wheel pointed to the sky. Come out of a corner with rpms in the basement, turn about 1/3 throttle, and it launched you into next week.

  • RAMBO'S motorcycle, hahaha! Nice Bike!!

  • Actually Rambo was riding an XT but for the flick they changed the sound of the bike and made it sound like a 2 stroke :)

  • how did you get a rear disk on it?

  • maybe of 90 YZ490

  • holy shit now i notice the bike, arent you jock? i seen your bike on the IT club website im a member from south africa!!

  • that's great man. I've wrenched and ridden a 465. Beastly power.

I love the idle the way it sounds like it wants to stall but it doesn't. Sweet.

  • where's the tail light?

  • Oh yeah, had me one in 86-a 84. It was a brute but talk about TORK! Oh, I miss it. Your bike looks AND sounds great, dude.

  • thats real 2 stroke power

  • i had a 1989 YZ250W when I was a boy, but would have bought an IT were they still made at the time. What year is this, '84, '85, '86? Congratulations on the rebuild. This bike look and sounds fantastic!

  • wow its beautiful. looks like a shit load of time and effort went into her,did you do it yourself?

  • Sweeeet nice bike, much better than the one sitting in my shed

  • great bike, i want one. a video of it being ridden would be good

  • Yeah really nice man!!

  • I have a 1984 international 6 day trials it490 I upgraded to 2004 Yamaha 250 front forks with disk brakes but the rear still has the old drum brakes!

  • The front and rear end came from a 2001 model Husaberg 501. White Power forks are sensational and Brembo brakes front and rear - there is no better. I had the rear shock completely rebuilt and the bike handles like a dream, such a smooth ride. Send me a link to some pics of your conversion. Jd

  • Very nice ! Show more videos when you finish it.

Very cool brake and fork conversion, sick bike !!!

    Wow!
