  • hohoho... Europe believes in multilinguism! Nazi people of languages, take your dirty nazi hands out of European languages!

  • To consider Esperanto a menace for linguistic diversity is ridicoulous. Search for "glottophagy".

  • A wolf in sheep's clothing. A good political weapon to indoctrinate people, isn't it?

  • If it was so many politicians would use it.

  • From the Prague Manifesto:

"National governments tend to treat the great diversity of languages in the world as a barrier to communication and development. In the Esperanto community, however, language diversity is experienced as a constant and indispensable source of enrichment." (1)

  • "Consequently every language, like every biological species, is inherently valuable and worthy of protection and support.

We maintain that communication and development policies which are not based on respect and support for all languages amount to a death sentence for the majority of languages in the world. We are a movement for language diversity." (2)

  • Glottophagy:

"The most common process leading to language death is one in which a community of speakers of one language becomes bilingual in another language, and gradually shifts allegiance to the second language until they cease to use their original (or heritage) language. This is a process of assimilation which may be voluntary or may be forced upon a population.

  • "Speakers of some languages, particularly regional or minority languages, may decide to abandon them based on economic or utilitarian grounds, in favour of languages regarded as having greater utility or prestige."

Esperanto can cause this if it ends up becoming prosperous in the future. You yourself mentioned glottophagy before.

  • Well, if you are interested in multilinguism you should be afraid of the real "killer languages" rather than the hypothetical ones.

Even though Esperanto becomes prosperous, it hasn't a political and economic power behind it. Moreover, it is very easy and fast to learn. It is not intrusive like normal languages so it can live with them. It is used in some English school to help children to learn languages.

  • Bona video.
