  • @jiima, yes it does, we watched this video in school and our science teacher did a demonstration on our football field, not like this though it was a small amount,

  • I call BS. Sodium does not exhibit this sort of reaction in water...

  • r.i.p headphone users

  • ...But will it blend?

  • he had it in earl so it would be fine in air

  • you said raw sodium! raw sodium will explode in like .001 seconds in a paile of water, and in about a minute if un protected when exposed to normal air

  • I was just about to ask a question and then I read the description :P

  • I'd love to see what you guys did with that Toluene.

  • hey can you send me this video via email? my email is winniedapooh3331998@gmail.com

  • wow you guys stole that for sure

  • We did this in science class yesterday.. The teacher put a little tiny bit in, and we were like 'Put it all in!!' and then BOOM... there's a hole in the desk now :D

  • I did this in science class today :D

  • he cuts the pice like butter lol

  • My math teacher got expelled from his school by doing this on campus...He's my hero.

  • shouldnt the sodium be catching on fire when it touches the moisture in the air?

  • @kahluathekinkajou It isn't that reactive.

  • DON'T TOUCH IT WITH YOUR HANDS DUMBASS

  • if you throw it in the river it could blow up a bridge

  • I know they dont have a haz mat permit for this

  • @alnilam66 it's completely legal

  • where do whacky teenagers get their hands on pure sodium?

  • @mcginty100 What the hell kind of rock do you live under? Anybody can get anything off the internet now.

  • @mcginty100 Most likely, their science lab.

  • thats cold water right?

  • just drop the entire brick in at once :D

  • @BUNDLEofHELL u nuts its gonna be hell

  • why do you perform your experiments at night?

  • @AnadolTwinTurbo So the explosion can be seen better.

  • dont they know that shit can blow up with the reaction of oxygen to???

  • Fire in the hole!

  • drop the sodium

    KABOOM!!!

    this is so epic.

  • quit reading comments and watch the freaking epic video!

  • Sweet. I needed that visual for a fanfic. :D

  • i havent heard an explosion so loud since me, my brother and my cousins put a half full aerosol can in a bonfire

  • Francium next!

  • WTF JUST TOSS THE WHOLE THING IN THE WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • where u buy that sodium from

  • it was always my dream to take 100kg of sodium and drop it into a lake

  • im glad you guys diddnt die from handling that stuff bare handed. maybe not die but some bad burns anyways... still cool vid.

  • omg just throw the whole shit in there...

  • @ImaazeDa3th sodium = expensuv.

  • jeasus Xd

  • Guy 1- You doofus.

    Guy 2- Shut up Beavis.

  • "Oh... cute."

    xD

  • Redneck fireworks

  • Keep handling it without gloves and eye protection and you will be meeting "Jesus"!

  • where can I get raw Sodium?

  • I hope you all don't live in a humid climate.

  • i'd like some sodium with my bread plz.

  • Francium PLEASSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!...

  • @JBiswoman They are just making small explosions not trying to commit suicide ;)

  • @LeafRaider

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!....francium are radioactive...

  • @JBiswoman Is* and technically everything is radioactive...

  • @JBiswoman HAHAHAHAHA good luck getting your hands on francium in the first place!!

  • tolu-what? :o

I tried seeing what it was and it burning black but It just came up with a thing that exploded. : /

  • throw the whole freakin bar :D

  • Why did it not blow up in your hands!

Every piece we pick up, even a miligram, disapeers or makes a loud pop, i mean the water in the air would have seriously blew it up already...

  • @TheHKY09 A few molecules of water in the air can't possibly react with every molecule of sodium in the brick. There's just not enough water in our skin or in the air to do much with the sodium, especially given its protective oxide layer.

  • @aaronz101

Then why is it extremly dangerous to take it out where i live...

I mean, it might be to humid for it. We have to keep seperate small amouts filled to the top of oil...

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THE SODIUM

  • @mcballer423 they got it from ebay

  • We are doing this in my science class too finchel4eva!

  • @luvjojoandjuju Lol no way! i wonder why.... *Rolls eyes* :)

  • OMG were gunna do this in my science class i can't wait

  • The most amazing thing is that it's real

  • very benefits

  • Sodium is dangerous, literally. Not smart to get this stuff anywhere near your bare skin. You go to wash your hands with any amount of this on your skin and you could end up with severe burns.

Make sure to wear heavy gloves and it's proabably best to dispose of anything that comes in contact with pure sodium.

  • @DoubleB159 bloody vagina humorless nigger

  • lol me and a couple of friends are gonna smoke some sodium... will it react with the waters in our lungs?

  • @trekkian88 Please go do this so you remove yourself from the gene pool.

  • Your neighbors must hate you guys lol.

  • how did u guys do the bomb thing ?? :)

  • @FUCKENSCREAM Simple, when sodium and water combine, the bonds between hydrogen and oxygen break, now alone, both these gases are highly flammable. Along with the reaction a large amount of heat is created. Now what happens when heat combines with flammable gas? You guessed it... BOOM!

  • sodiums like, me no like water BOOM!!!!!!!!

  • what is the stuff you're referring to at 1:13?

  • Best way to spend some extra money

  • @kylesproductions salt is not, an element it is a compound NaCl which is a combination of two elements (compound)

  • Sad that they dont sell any of Lithium, potassium, or any alkali metals in ebay =(

  • 0:11 Hank Hill, "Ya Doofus"

  • Chem is one of my fav classes^^

  • Did that experiment in class last week.....the table has a giganic burnt mark

  • Im sure most people know this, but this isnt salt. salt is a complete different element.

    Salt=Sodium+Chlorine.

  • where do you even get pure sodium???

  • united nuclear.

  • he should of used the Yoshi blade, it can through any shit.

  • Who sells sodium on ebay? Is that even legal?

  • @Altoclarinets yes

  • i stole some of this from my chemistry teacher and put it in my backpack.... My gatorade cap wasn't all the way

    It exploded in my locker

  • at 1:12 i thought they just put

    it in water haha

  • @thugstergio21 that was probably a different liquid like vinegar

  • gotta love chemistry

  • thou hast angered the chem gods !

  • @DaReggaeMAN77 Possibly true for high quality, lab grade sodium. But industrial grade sodium metal in bulk amounts is dirt cheap; a few dollars per pound. You'll probably pay more for transporting the sodium safely and all the permits and things than for the sodium metal itself.

  • I can't believe it's not butter

  • Where did you get so much sodium? Or how did you made it?

  • @kinnsner you have to have a chemical liscence in order to get it

  • @juanrom707 but wheather you buy it in store?

  • @juanrom707 you don't need a license to purchase sodium metal in the US.

  • @kinnsner A safe assumption, for that much sodium, would be that they stole it from a chem lab at a university.

  • someone at my school flushed some of this

  • you know that stuff could react with the water in the air right?

  • @jordi1232 yeah but the H2O content in the air is only enough to darken the exposed edges of the sodium metal.

  • ya a big difference

  • and we eat this....

  • @hockeymatt1994 No, we eat sodium chloride. There is a big difference once chloride is added.

  • @NKOTech its still sodium. less volatile, but still sodium

its also trace amounts of it

  • Did you put in in... yeah i put it in.. i didnt hear it boom! 5 secs later it booms lol

  • Sodium is such a cool metal...

  • put a piece in your mouth then take a sip of water

  • @XbOxRuLeZz wouldn't even need to sip water. The amount of water in the saliva would be enough for the sodium to react quite violently

  • want a bigger explosion? put Cs or Rb in there. :D

  • Dude man up next time and throw that whole brick in xD

  • where did you get it!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • haha I stole some too haha

  • please put 1kg into it

or throw 20 kg from a bridge into a river xD

  • ya dufus

  • LOL! When u put that big stash of sodium in the petrol, i thought it was water.... I was like " WTF RUN?"

  • You have to keep it in petroleum because on fresh air it oxidates very quickly.

  • Try out cesium

  • I like sodium on toast.

  • raw sodium LOL, i tend to use cooked sodium personally :P

  • Your sodium is not "raw" this substance is highly diluted, true sodium would be an instant ignite; plus true raw sodium is a powder substance not a waxy soapy substance. Source: I've used pure chemist grade sodium that comes in the actual bottle.

  • @ItsTechBlitz Sodium is a soft metallic solid at room temperature which can be cut with a knife, though I wouldn't describe it as "soapy". Like many other metals (such as aluminum or magnesium), reactions happen much faster in powdered form due to the greatly increased surface area.

The sodium itself doesn't burn. This reaction creates large amounts of hydrogen gas and is exothermic, so when enough hydrogen and heat accumulate it burns rapidly or explodes. It isn't quite instant.

  • Also interestingly that probably means that more Sodium doesn't necessarily mean bigger boom. As soon as you get the right concentration of hydrogen and heat together it should all go off at once.

  • @ItsTechBlitz Sodium is a soft metal, as seen in the video...

  • REALLLY Stupid. You touched it with ur bare hands? Ur skin could of blown off. Environment Destruction...WOW

  • Dont try this at home! Do it in your garden instead

  • werd u get raw sodium

  • why are you touching that with your hands???

  • @HaydenHatTrick

Yeah if only he was sweating.....

  • put the whole thing in a swimming pool.

  • in my science class my teacher put sodium in water in a beaker right below the bell speaker and it blew up and there were sparks in the speaker so now it doesnt work as well :)

  • jesus! JESUS!!! XD

  • Wow! Where did U "borrowed" That big peace of sodium?

  • bam! "ow."

  • You know sodium explodes off the surface right? So the more surface area the bigger the explosion. So I suggest squishing the sodium to get a bigger piece in terms of surface area.

  • In the 1950's the U.S. Navy built a submarine with a liquid sodium cooled nuclear reactor! In other words technology that mixed thousands of pounds of hot sodium with vast amounts of radioactivity and put it all underwater. It worked fine - no accidents. But after a couple of years the Navy decided to use other kinds of reactors. This video helps explain what they were worried about.

  • if u cut it up into smaller pieces and throw them all in there it makes a bigger explosion

  • if u cut it up into smaller pieces it makes a bigger explosion

  • but a 1kg of that in the river

  • shred it and color it red and tell someone its kool aid powder in but it in a cup and drink it :p

  • if were u i d throw the whole thing in and watch myself burn! LOL jokes but still......

  • Very cool ! :)

  • @Anonymous9743: Keep it up. You'll loose an eye one day with no to blame but your self, tard.

"There may come a day when I'll dance across your grave . . . and if unable to dance, I'll crawl"

  • so if there was a sodium mine and a dude dumps a water bottle ? would it go KABOOM !

  • @zerogravity11

you know it reacts with water so normaly you dont find it like that (most as the salt NaCl).

  • dare u to swallow it

  • Complete and total irresponsible behaviour. Really. I am beginning to see reason in raising the driving age from 16 to 18.

  • @Gort65

    STFU. This shit is awesome.

  • @Gort65 dude your a faggot who cares if they get hurt thats there problem. this stuff is still cool

  • this looks fun

  • you could make mortors with this!

  • i remember watching this same video my junior year of high school.

  • lol i stole sulphuric acid solution once from school

  • What is it that makes fire burn black? I can't find it under tolurin, tolyurin, or tolyurine.

  • @bobisanepicname

Toluene - one of the T's in TNT.

  • @Nickcooper625 TriNitroToluene

  • AWESOME!

  • So were did you buy your sodium? Never seen so much at a time. Ha ha love the sulfuric acid comment.

  • i ear a "wa you guys doin" owards e end

  • Shouldn't it burn when you hold it in your hand?

  • That's a massive chunk of sodium!

  • I've always wanted to try sodium in water, but this wasn't as impressive I as pictured it. i just remember my junior high science teacher saying that it could blow a building in half; guess that was just to discourage us kids.

  • 0:40 - "Goddamn it, I'm gonna die someday doin' crazy shit like this..."

    Win! That's funny!

  • BTW does is anyone willing on try to lick that sodium bar? LOL...mmmm think on your favorite chocolate untill it makes you pops in your mouth! ahhaha

  • @manonpiano Forget lickin' it. Try spittin' on it.

  • @denelson83 well that still gives a chance to experimentation without taking so much risks LOL let´s forget taking it inside in any way...XD btw wich one is the toxicity level of the sodium in such state?

  • not a good idea putting it near your nose... hate for it to go off

  • u mean sodium hexaflouride

  • not raw

  • i remember doin this in my grade 9 sceince class.....code brown i got to change my pants.......lmfao

  • Must buy raw sodium off eBay.....NOW

Dammit, I'm a poor college student.

    Must Raid Chemestry Labs.....NOW

Aww home for the week end.

    MUST Get job.

Eh I'm lazy and too busy with school, I guess I'm stuck watching this video in envy.

  • you've just made my day

  • Ebay? I couldnt find it... Lol you need a license or some shit

  • Fantastico!!!!

  • lololol he picks it up....lovely.

  • To make it not react to the moisture and the oxygen in the air u have to put in something oil based. :)

  • My dad was telling me about how he did this in year 11 (a long time ago) when the teacher left the classroom. they put a huge mound of it in water, it exploded and the entire classroom was filled with smoke.

I'm in year 11 now so i'll see what happens ;)

  • why isn't the moisture in the air making it react?

  • it does, its just kinda slow. I know they SAY its fast....but it has a passivisation layer, its not like the whole thing is gonna explode one day.

  • Put a block by the bathtub, tell ur little bro its soap...

  • @locouk man! you're so evil, hehe ;)
