yes.But in one player you can only play as mario. Player one ALWAYS has to be mario even in 2 player, but player 2,3 and 4 can choose between luigi, blue toad or yellow toad

There's too much going on at the screen at once to have on-line. LBP could but the camera didn't zoom so it didn't take up more of those thingies. I would also see it lagging as where your character is is very important, which is why Brawl's on-line is worse than a game like MK Wii, because where every player is is more important.
