  • we dont even have pay phones on the street any more.

  • blue band #1.50 now #200 plus. na wa oo. wats is wrong with our naira.

  • omo super blue omo watchesbrighter and it shows!!!

  • Nigeria indeed looks messed up, but who do you blame for it? We are all culpable, from the politician who goes there to pillage the treasury and fails to deliver to the ordinary man and woman on the street who can see evil being perpetrated and refuses to do something.

  • oh Lawwdy! i've got tears in my eyes! Too much nostalgia

    Beautiful post inolly.

    Thank you for these memories.

  • @ zinmanship: did you notice the phoneboot, these have been out of existence since like 20 years ago ... Now who will restore Nigeria back to its old glory!

  • OMO medium size 68k, Lux 40k, Closeup Standard size 75k, Blue Band 1:50k, New Closeup 3:70k. Wao........ I could still remember these adverts and Now what is the price of these stuffs? You can multiply them by 100 or 1000, where as it is not up to 30 years now..... Pity!!

Where are those kids in the adverts now? I think they should have a copy of this advert for remembrance purpose. I will do, if I was on the Blue band advert....lol

  • Thumbs Up if ur watching this in 2011!!!

  • Childhood memories!

  • Brilliant post, thanks for it. I've never really been able to let go of 1980's, 1990's television.

  • @glenakin, is there anything you can do to make the country better instead of chastising the country? I don't know what your age bracket is, but all i know is that 9ja has improved from how she was in '90s- even though there is plenty of work to be done in terms of corruption.

  • God bless my beautiful country NIGERIA!!!

  • I miss these old good days !! Nigeria !! GOD will restore the lost glory of that great country ..

  • Chimo! Did u see d bad eye at 1:00?

  • THIS IS OUR PROBLEM, AND UNTILL IT IS FIXED WE ARE NOT GOING NO WHERE. WE HAVE A GOVERNMENT WITHOUT HAVING A STATE. WE NEED TO HAVE A STATE THEN A GOVERNMENT.

  • now blueband taste horrible.it is made in ghana, now due to the fact that nigeria moved some of there company to ghana when theres no constant light in nigeria.nigeria supplied ghana light, and nigeria don't have light every day.

  • did u see the price N0.68k...

  • I remember Blue Band, it tastes good...better than these things nowadays.

    Close-up, still use it.

    OMO! i miss home...

  • @hot2dmax Are you kidding me? Blue Band was rubbish, at least in those days! The best was Planta - it was so good, you could spread it straight from the fridge. These days, no one cares - everyone buys foreign margarine because Planta was discontinued.

  • @jemmabond OMG Planta is no more?!!! Whatever shall I do now ... how can I live ...?!!! What shall I spread on my bread?!

  • My eyes filled with tears while watching this video clip. I really remember these adverts when niaja was still a good ENVIABLE country. Not the mis-ruled, messed up country it is today!

  • seing all this advert again i feel like crying asking myself if nigeria can ever be good like the old days.God Help Us From IBB AND OBJ,E.T.C

  • Nigeria Got the First TV station in Africa which is the same one you watching now NTA, we also have the First lady to drive a car in Africa or own a car is from Nigeria, You kids can say am lying.. i was born in d 80's so i know what da fuck am saying.. up Nigeria... am Nigerian Canadian Dagrin Number 1 Fan.. disss me kids.. most people that will reply me with fake ass reply will be Nigerians... you guys are fake ass bitches... Rip Grin... and fuck u haterz

  • You mean "young, active pimples!"

  • I actually won a racing competition after having blue band margarine, taking bath with Lux soap, brushing my teeth with close up and washing my clothes with OMO....:)

  • I REMEMBER THESE DAYS WHEN HONEY USED TO BE SWEET, WHEN ROAD POT-HOLES USED TO BE PLUGGED, WHEN OBASANJO USED TO BE CALLED UNCLE SEGE, WHEN NATIONAL THEATRE, IGANMU USED TO BE A NATIONAL MONUMENT, WHEN NIGERIANS USED TO OBSERVE AND RESPECT THEIR CULTURES, WHEN U SLEEP WITH NO WORRY OF D ARMED ROBBERS AND D HOME INVADERS etc. WHEN NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA WOULD VISIT HOME WITHOUT THE WORRY OF BEING TARGETED BY ROBBERS. GONE WERE THOSE DAYS. THANKS TO Ibrahim Babangida WHO TOOK ALL THESE AWAY FROM US

  • mehn this ish is throw back lol..i miss home!

  • @shoneils you cry ? Na wao !

  • lol i love Nigeria!

  • @shessme u are right the voice in d 1st joy soap advert was not of nigerian accent, but if he is nigerian he definately did not grow up in nigeria. As for the nigerian advert being short in south aftica, that is a 100% true. I use to work for a very popular advert firm in nigeria b4 I left the country in 2004 and most of the adverts were short is S/A, eg peak milk, three crown milk, even take a look at the present detol soap advert.

  • that was genevieve nnaji super blue omo when she was 8yrs old

  • Er ... nope, that wasn't Genevieve Nnaji. That was my roommate's sister and someone else, but definitely not Genevieve. And they were around 11 yrs old.

  • Thousand thanks, inollywood. These are golden moments when Nigeria was a country to be. What we hear about it these days aren't good

  • o yes, i remember those days OMO,wow ,Nigeria is RICH....

  • Sweet memories. Can you believe that a packet of Omo was once 68 Kobo?

  • Wow. These guys had nice accents. I wonder what happened.

  • standard most have dropped including the news casters

  • @TheMorales1111. those voices were not nigerian, there were lots of foreigners in nigeria in those days.

  • Most of the ads' voiceovers were done in the UK or (esp. in the 90s) in South Africa. That's why they sound the way they do (or did).

My God, 68 kobo for Elephant Blue Detergent :)

  • That's a bit ignorant of you. Are you implying that there aren't any Nigerians with accents like these?

At the time of these commercials South Africa was still ruled by an apartheid government, it would be impossible to have shot any black advert there. One more thing, South Africans hardly sound like this.

  • ahh oga, what is the insult about, did i say anything about south africa, you can prove me if i'm wrong. My statement remains that there were many foreigner in nigeria then, even now in some of the advert in nigeria you see white people e.g chi adverts, and i wasnt implying that nigerians cant speak that way. i'm just speaking about the situation in nigeria back then. But maybe you want the world to know that you have such accent and at the same time you are a nigerian, but thats childish of u

  • @shessme There were lots of NTA staff sent abroad for diction training too! Remember the lovely Ruth Benemaisia Opiah, Sienne All-Well Brown/Razak-Lawal and Donald Ovberedjo? They spoke/speak excellently!

  • This is so funny....makes me want to go back to those days

  • I LOVE AFRICA SO MUCH, I LOVE NIGERIAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • @maryray10 mee toooooooooo

  • how time flies, cant believe how far we have come still no improvement, nigeria needs help fast.God help nigeria.

  • i know the changes are even scary, God help nigeria

  • Blueband was N1.50k.How things changed!

  • lmao! and i never noticed how terrible her grammer was either, "bootyfuul"

  • close up-to help you get some in a phone booth

  • Seems we were more beautiful during those days than now...lol lol

  • gaddem, the gilr in the omo advert was in the same clas with my older sis...lol..i remember talking about it back then

  • When Nigeria was good. Now look at everything - fucked up. I know like 900 Nigerians will reply and say otherwise. Diss me, say what you like, I have eyes - I can see how effed up the country is. And I aint gonna stop dissing either!

  • well, we know it's not the people's fault. they are the ones that are suffering. corrupt fucking gov't.

  • @glenakin what are YOU doing about it if its so effed up?

    nothing? just dissing?

    then STFU.

  • @BBBauer typical reply from an ignorant nigerian who wants to claim patriotism. Being a patriot means recognising the truth and speaking against it. What am I doing? I'm speaking against it. What else can I do? Oust the government and rule the country? Nigga, get real

  • @glenakin you are right!...nigeria is a hot ass mess now!

  • @glenakin when nigeria was still great

  • @glenakin Motherfucker

  • @glenakin i strong agree with u. before, blue band #1.50 now #200 plus. na wa oo. wats is wrong with our naira.

  • I'm ready 4 my "Close-Up" too

  • what a memory...... love these advert than and even more now, tanx for posting this......

  • OMG! I remember all these adverts. I was so young then.

  • GOD BLESS NIGERIA

  • and no place else!

  • Ha! nawa o. I remember all these commercials. am in tears. Naija needs to change for the best for real. U cannot beat this.

  • Gone are the days. I could remember these adverts. Citizens are progressing in there struggling for achievements while "Good for nothing Leaders are damaging, mis-managing, depressing, abusing and down-grading our gifted Economy". We have all what it takes to be a developed country, but we are suffering of 100% embezzliment compared to other countries on the globe. Solidarity against those stupid act of corruptions we soon start against corrupt Nigerian Leaders.

  • OMG this brings back so much memories of growing up that am so close to tears knowing how fast time has gone by

  • a white dude's voice?!!! You have to be kidding me. Sad to see where we still where in the 80s, twenty yrs after colonialism...

  • yeah and where are we now? almost 50 yrs after colonialism?

  • Which one was "omo..omo super active omo, washes brighter and is shows" Ye! I have just revealed my age!

  • i think it's "--washes brighter and it shones" the omo of the mid to late 70s was as good as it could be, but the ones of the mid 90s (including this advert's time) was a washout.

  • The dance in the last close-up advert is so gay!!!!!

  • close up 75k, now like 120naira. Haba nigeria!! what happened?

  • 120Naira - 0.75naira = i.m.f. + kleptomacy + swissbanks sequestration.

Balance b/d (brought down) = i.t.t. (international tiff tiff).

  • Lux was 4ok then, now i think is about 30naira

  • Wow...........Good old times.I was quite young den but can still vividly remember them. The prices of the products as seen in dis footage were btw 68k and 3.70k.Alarming!Compared to what the prices are b4 i left d country 4 months back.Look @ wat bad leadership has left us with. They ve ruined d economy totally.God help Us.Nice video all the same.

  • This sure evokes childhood memories! Wasted years, wasted opportunities...shame on the politicians, shame...shame on all those who could make a difference and stood down!

  • Oh My God!!

  • I'm literally crying now. I remember some of these commercials now, and I miss home so much. GOD BLESS YOU FOR POSTING THESE!

  • Need more of this type of video for memory sake.

  • I think d trip for me is d prices of these products back then... 68k, 75k... times certainly have changed

  • From 10 10 softdrink to OMO to close up....Chei! See as Naija don kpeme finish.

  • you're right, remember how NAFDAC couldn't protect us from aji no moto which caused cancer.

  • Funniest thing is that blueband was crap butter, but this brings back memories

  • was blueband really crap (Nigerian standard)?

  • I LOVE NIGERIA OH.Chai home sweet home

  • This really brings back memories.Notice the prices of the products? May God be with Naija, that's all I can say.

  • Oh! I remember the old days when one can buy lots of things with one naira and still have change to spare. I love this video it reminds me of the old days

  • Babangida came and ruined all the economy. Those dayz might never come back again.

  • LMAO!!! i seriously forgot about omo!!!

  • We are facing a real hyper inflation in Nigeria

  • if nija's standard's maintained as it was from the start...am sure today we will be one the CLASSIEST and PRESTIGIOUS countries in the world....GOD PLEASE HELP US WIPE OUT THE CORRUPTION...it's just way too much!

  • wow, this is so cool. Thumbs up to whoever posted this.
