@pastropmal yes! I repent! Shun the nonbelievers! and all that. Btw u could point out what is my ignorance exactly. Since ur so wise and alknowing that u can judge me. XD
Got to respect the Kyokushin style of karate, very powerfull, not like other karates like kung fu and others. Have you seen the leader of kyokushin? Masutatu Oyama was indeed a great fighter, broke the horns of of bulls, BULLS when he established that as a style of karate. He trained in the forest for....something years, and changed karate leaders, defeating them blow by blow, at one point, a one hit kill blow. RESPECT the power of this type of karate.
@Dragonk116 i practiced for 8 months wen i was 16,I am 24 now and i swear i was immune to pain even as a skinny kid and most important of all i wasnt afraid of the older biger "bully" dudes in my school,I was ready to fight 4 smiling. The training was so hard the first 2 months,at times i went to the bathroom crawling on my elbows but in a strange way i liked the pain.
@NicoMorocho It is bare knuckle fighting so you can imagine the damage to the face. There are a lot of very successful Kyokushin fighters that fight in other forms which include face punching - George Saint Piere (UFC) Semmy Schilt (K1 kickboxing), just to name a couple (youtube them if you are unfamiliar with them). Also, check out daido juku, these guys are still Kyokushin, but they fight knock down with face punches, throws and some ground work

This is bad-ass.Although I have a few questions about learning Kyokushin. Is there a minimum age limit for a child to learn? And what is the minimum age required to become Shodan? It's a cool martial art, but I can't imagine kids under 13 - 15 doing this kinna stuff. I trained in Muay Thai and BJJ for 5 years now, and you had to be at least 15 to do Muay Thai at my gym (and it is quite similar to Kyokushin).
@makunouchi3 Hi there! I run a Kyokushin club in England and have kids as young as four. Children can do both 'semi-contact' points fighting and 'knockdown' fighting in competitions - for the kids 'knockdown', they wear body armour, mitts and helmets and kicks to the head need to be controlled. As from this year, to bring us into line with European rules, there are no thigh kicks allowed for under 15s. The kids love the fighting above anything. You're right - it is a cool martial art! OSU!
@kyokushinbabe Thanks man. I'd be interested in trying Kyokushinkai if they had it on this side of the U.S. In your club, what is the minimum age required to become a shodan, and is there such thing as junior dan ranking in case you're not old enough? and what are the other age requirements for subsequent dan rankings?
@makunouchi3 - Hi again! I think different organisations have different regulations but in my one (IKO GB), the minimum age for Shodan is 16. I believe some organisations have junior dan ranking but a big part of our shodan grading is the 20 full contact fights which we have to do - kids can only obviously do this to a certain degree but a shodan gained as a minor would never really have the same value as that gained by someone going through a 20 man kumite as an adult. Continued/....
@kyokushinbabe Oh by the way where I am is Dallas, Texas. I just read that you run a school in England. .PLEASE COME TO TEXAS AND OPEN A SCHOOL. :-) ...LOL. Cheers.
@makunouchi3 - You are required to wait a minimum of two years between Shodan and Nidan, so the absolute minimum age would be 18 before taking Nidan. I'm taking my Nidan next weekend - never thought I'd get to that level but have trained hard and am sort of looking forward to it, especially the 30 man kumite you need to do for Nidan - going to be the ultimate test for me for my training & fighting skills. Hope you find a club near you - it's more than a 'sport' for me, it's a way of life. OSU!
@kyokushinbabe Thanks for all the info. I hope I can find a Kyokushinkai dojo around here, but that is highly unlikely. I'll stick to Muay Thai and BJJ for now. Any martial art is a way of life.
@kyokushinbabe I am interested in studying Kyokushin but the nearest school is 2 1/2 hours away driving. Is Nidan a black belt? can you spar full-contact in the dojo in preparation for the kumite? how long do you recommend training before competing? have you studied in the same school? how long have you studied it for?
hey guys this question might be stupid...but is there any difference between kyokushin, kyokushinkai, kyokushinkaikan? I hear these 3 names...is it all the same? :D
