  • @TheMimi1903 funny i love richter but not his version of this one

  • Insuperabile!!!!!! Unico!!!!!!

  • Lol this etude makes no sense at all. Awesome.

  • Lazar Berman has been A LEGENDARY PIANIST!!!!!

  • omg. i couldn't breath after that ended it was so amazing. so lightning fast and insane.

  • THE BEST.

  • Berman frequently played in recital ALL of Liszt's Etudes d'execution transcendante AND the Etudes Tableaux of Rachmaninov.

Simply amazing stamina. Very few pianists would even attempt that programme.

Fortunately, as well as having a colossal technique (which isn't very rare), he was a fine musician.

Emil Gilels called him "the phenomenon of the musical world".

Praise indeed from the great man.

  • @JCThomsonMA Berezovsky I believe is the only painist to have played all in one sitting. However if you can give me a source to prove me wrong I'll gladly accept. I do love Lazar's versions!

  • @theecollective11 now you're asking. It must be over 35 years since I read it. It might have been on the cover of the LP I bought of the Liszt etudes d'etc, but it could easily not have been. But I DID read it somewhere!

  • JEEZ! That's great playing. He barely keeps the wildness under controll.

  • After hearing Berman play this etude, all others can just go home! Frightening!!

  • OMG! Definately the best of this piece

  • Considering the score isnt there something unsual at the first measures ?

  • @hailkayy yes. the rhythms are incorrect. they are 8th notes but he sort of plays them like 16th notes, which make the rests in between each grouping a tad helter-skelter. who cares though. this is a blazing interpretation and he certainly captures the wildness of this particular etude. It is really quite spectacular, but in all fairness i must say Claudio Arrau's recording is the one that stays with me. He may not play these as fast, but the colors, tone and interpretational depth are TITANIC.

  • I feel so privileged to have this and the other 11 on CD, the best complete set ever recorded, no doubt! His 'Pest Carnaval Rhapsody' is pretty amazing too

  • zomgee...heart is beating extremely fast!!

  • One of the most amazing recordings that have ever been made. I'm so happy to find it here because it never appeared on CD. THANKS!

  • wooooooooooooo... speechless... unreal speed. really brings out the barbaric nature of this piece - this is my favourite etude and I feel it really needs to be performed at very high energy, specifically emphasizing the crunching dissonances - those frequent minor seconds make this piece so unique! (among other delicacies : ) the Allegro Barbaro of the high Romantic era!

  • This is frightening hearing how fast he can play this etude!

  • Berman owns all the transcendental etudes (second only to Liszt himself)!

  • @danceofthegoblins after Arrau, Arrau is # 1

  • This cooks Richters goose.
