Used to live north of Lake Ponchartrain, in Tangipahoa parish. Thank God I left before Katrina. You're right: New Orleans got all the coverage, and y'all got the hurricane. And now all eyes are on Gustav: and all the news coverage is on Louisiana again. So sorry this happened, stay safe, 'hear?
We lost so much in the Ms Gulf Coast. And Louisiana gets all the coverage. They got damage from the levees. We got hit by the hurricane. All this time has passed, and my family and I are still in a fema park. There are days I hate waking up. Very good video, I wish the best for you and your family.
Thanks for posting this. I am a police officer from SC, we came down with the Charleston SC police Dept to assist the Gulfport police, stayed at Bayou View Middle School.. The damage I saw was STAGGERING.. Stayed for a few days, we didn't have the resources to stay longer. It was rough, real rough.
My parents lived in Ocean Springs. They lost everything. The people of MS will never be victims in my mind or heart. They saw what happened, threw up, said prayers, and started over. God bless 'em for pulling up their own bootstraps, not expecting someone to do it for them.
Seawitch, thank you for taking the time to put these videos together. They are excellent...I felt that you guys had been forgotten when most of the TV footage was of New Orleans...I still remember and may we never forget...love, Canada
May 2, 2007..I live in Milwaukee,WI and today is my birthday and I just watched your video on Katrina and I can't imagine what everyone went through. To the people that were directly affected, you people are my heros and may God shine his light upon you all.
please excuse my error...though I still stand by saying how much your giving in the rebuilding after Katrina.I live in Northern Canada and the coverage that we got over the news was all of New Orleans so having youtube and people then I get a bigger look instead of what is shown on National television-thanks so much for opening my eyes , cheers ! oh I would love to visit the Mississippi river one day ...it must be awesome to see? thanks again seawitch and Godbless.
I do not live in New Orleans. I live in Mississippi. This video is a tribute to Mississippians who have been putting their lives back together after Katrina.
Wilma was pretty bad. In the video, I tired to use some before Katrina photos. I didn't have my camera long enough to take more. What I've been doing since Katrina is taking pictures of a few areas around the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In those areas, I try to take photos twice a month. In the sequence with the flowers growing over items salvaged from one home, that home hasn't been rebuilt. It will not be rebuilt. The owners are building further inland.
Great shots, although I was a bit confused on which was a "before" and which was an "after" pic, even with the dates. We're still recovering from Cat3 Wilma here in S.FL, but nothing like you went thru. Bush has pretty much forgotten us, so we will get thru by helping each other. Have faith, the Gulf Coast will again be great!!
Having just got back from my first stint in/on Lake Borgne LA I was amazed at the devastation as far as the ye could see around Chalmette to Shell Beach.
Hi, I've come to MS three times as a volunteer and must say that I am so angry that so little has been done. I will be making my fourth trip this spring to BSL and Waveland and hope to see some improvements.
Well, we moved from Gulfport about 2 yrs before Katrina came. Well i miss Mississippi, and the pretty water and the beach. It was like heaven down there. Then Katrina came. But i wasnt there so i don't know what the people feel, and how the people feel that lost there lovehopeand family members. If this was a touchy story, copy and paste it somewere and send it to some people, because it comes from the heart.

Oh man, I love this so much. Thank you for making this slideshow. Although I was born and raised in Tennessee, I feel like Gulfport is my love.

georgetime,
Thank you so much for helping us. There has been much improvement since I made this video. There is still so much to be done.
Again, I must thank you. It was police officers and the thousands upon thousands of volunteers who kept our hope up in those dark days.

krista980,
New Orleans gets so much of the media coverage about Hurricane Katrina. People forget that Mississippi took a direct hit from Katrina.
The Mississippi River is about 45 miles from where I live. Perhaps you might enjoy our beautiful beaches.

YOU ARE RIGHT. the eye didn't hit New Orleans, it hit Pass Christian
