  • I live in AZ and growing up most everyone called it coke or soda. But all my extended family is in MI and they would make so much fun of me for not calling it pop. lol.

  • I haven't taken a pH on coffee before (that would be fun, just show up to lab like "lol I'm gonna stick mah coffeh in the pH meter") but I did coke/sprite a while back. They're like pH 2.5/3... freaked me out a bit. That's probably why you get that "sting" with your soda, since you're pretty much drinking concentrated phosphoric acid.

  • Well, I live all the way over in New Zealand, and most of the people I know call it fizzy! :O

  • In Chicagoland soft drinks are referred to as soda and pop alternately and synonymously. However, at an ice cream parlor or somewhere with such deserts- soda also specifically refers to a carbonated drink / ice cream desert (i.e. root beer float).

  • Most Central Texans say Coke.

  • It's pop in the UK or "fizzy drink" coz we're so imaginative xD

It's funny the way you talk about the pop/soda divide like it was a split that happened centuries ago when people couldn't agree on the name so they left to form separate colonies.

  • Traveller's... Traveller's... Death!? OMG!

  • Bye

  • i live in washington and everyone i know says soda so i say soda but to me it really does not matter what you call it soda, pop, sodapop, softdrinks ect..

  • so i think the soda pop thing is an east west split cause i'm in kansas and people say both and were in the middle, but i got to missouri and they say soda and i go to nebraska and the say pop.

  • You're right Dodger, it's pop!

  • popvssoda.c!o!m! get rid of the ! and go on that site

  • As far as I know Milwaukee wi calls it soda , cousins in

    n/w Wisconsin call it pop

  • Last year at school, a couple of the cool teachers and lots of the students had a soda, pop, coke "war". The Texan teacher called soda, coke. The teacher from Minnesota called soda, pop. And most of the students called it soda. We had T-shirts for each faction! :D

  • when i watch this video it feels like one of those weird dates you have... just freaking everywhere lol

  • Dude, I totally get what your talking about. I know that everyone I know in Illinois say pop. I was raised with pop. So whenever I meet someone that says soda, I look at them like they are strange.

  • IT IS POP.. dont let those soda fools hamper your style!! Also everything is Coke near the Coke plant! even things like Mtn dew.. is a Mtn Dew Coke!!

  • @DexterityBonus, Y U Soooo Perty?

  • I think it's more age based rather than location based, and it has to do with where/when your parents grew up.

  • Thumbs up for Pop

  • *takes a drink from his water bottle.*

  • Soda here...grew up in WI, but there were people in the same town (3500 people) who called it Pop. 'Coke' generically seems to be a southern thing...doesn't matter if it's Coke, Pepsi, RC, whatnot...it's all Coke.

I think, for me, the 'sips' compared to gulps is a flavour thing...water does have a taste, but it's generally just wet...and gulps of after are if really thirsty.

  • you have shits

  • DIARRHEA!!! :D (only watched like 40 seconds and im already laughing :D)

  • WOAH.. YOUR HAIR LOOKS UBER PRETTY TODAY. O.O

  • You remind me SO MUCH of my friend Kelly. I havent gotten to see her is a long time and watching your videos makes me think of her. <3

  • I'm from England and we just call things by their name, like Coke or Fanta.

Sometimes I call it fizzy pop but that's only when I'm taking the piss or talking to a child.

  • I should not have wiki'd that...

  • well here in Michigan we say pop, so youre not the only one dodge

  • Comment removed

  • As far as I can tell nothern states tend to call it pop more than southern. For example I'm from North Dakota, and I know it is generally called pop in the Dakotas and Minnesota.

Personally I tend to be sipping water all day except for at meals, where I refuse to drink something without flavor. As a result I've become a big fan of the Bobble, a filter you screw into your water bottle.

  • wait so club soda dehydrates you ?!

  • TRAVELER'S DIARRHEA?

  • td = ..... td canada trust bank? xD

  • I live out in Washington up in the mountains - absolute fresh ground spring water for my drinking pleasure! Tastes sooo good! Better then any crappy bottled water you can buy.. :-)

  • travellers diarrhea?!!!!!!

  • LOL Travellers diarrhea xD It's all good we've been there Dodge.

  • I don't like water when I am realy thirsty because I can't chug it. It makes me burp and feel weird. I like water that has time to sit, not too cold.

I would live on juice but I don't know why I didnt do it yet ;) Or pepsi ... but I dont want to lose my theet like my coworker who is 40 and drinks his 2L of pepsi every day.

  • I think I called it pop when I was younger but call it soda now. Not actually sure, haha. I might use both.

  • Funny i've never had problems with T.D..

I just drink a glass of Gammel Dansk/Old Danish(somekind of bitter alcohol

from Denmark) I think it's because of the herbs that's in it.

  • Wow you look so fancy in this video.

  • Are you sure your bad airport luck isn't luck at all. Maybe in the beginning it was luck but not that it has happeed so ofton maybe the think you as a reccuring threat, so check you every time (like you are on the system as being checked so ofton that they automatically check you just in case when they see you.)

  • bigthink.com/ideas/21360 Here's the diagram you're looking for! =D

  • No, I will not say the title in Captain Picard's voice, I'll say the opening to Star Trek: TNG in Sean Connery's voice. Seriously, go do that. Space . . . da final frontier.

  • When you're swimming in the pool

    and you feel something cool.

    diarrhea

    plop plop

    diarrhea

When you're climbing up the ladder

    and you feel something splatter.

    diarrhea

    diarrhea

  • why is that water not clear ?

ohh btw i dont like the taste of water eighter.. :-) i need jiuce or lemonade.

  • You have Traveler's Diarrhea? lol

    ^_^

  • The only reason water is so inexpensive here (Canada) and in the USA, and really expensive in other countries is because we really take water for granted and we actually only pay 10% of what it actually costs to get and ship/move over here... We could supply water for four small countries the way we use it. Lol I did a speech about this :P

  • go here for pop vs soda--/popvssodaDOTcom/

  • here we dont call is soda or pop. in alabama all soft drinks are known as cokes.

  • Maybe you look suspicious...

  • you got traverlers Diarrhea aha too bad for you that must suck doset it i had Diarrhea before dont feel bad

  • In New Jersey they refer to it as wooter.

  • @sbflash311 I've lived in New Jersey the majority of my life and I've never heard someone say that. Apparently people in southern New Jersey speak funny but I doubt you are referring to that.

  • @chubblemunch I never heard Frank Sinatra pronounce or Bruce Springstreen pronounce it that way.

  • @sbflash311 Bastards! Making my state seem sillier than it already does.

  • I put powdered orange drink and lemonade mix in tap water. I could probably liven them up by putting vodka in the orange drink or whiskey in the lemonade.

  • both coasts call it soda, every where in between is pop.

  • Soda is the only acceptable name! Is it weird that I'd actually like to see a full on war over Soda vs Pop? In fact, it could be like a gigantic world war (moar liek Word War, m i rite?) with Soda vs Pop vs Cola vs Coke (this would essentially be Canada, as it's the one I imagine would have the smallest and least effective presence) vs Soda Pop. Oh, and then there could be another war at the same time over stupid sandwich names, ie. Sub vs Grinder vs Hoagie vs whatever other ridiculous names.

  • I just call it fizzy drinks

  • Traveler's diarrhea?

  • In Texas a lot of people don't say soda or pop. Everything is a coke. Even if you want a Sprite or Pepsi, you ask what type of cokes a place serves.

  • @UltraJenni not in houston?

  • @brianlidawg I have friends and family from Houston that say coke as well. Maybe it also depends on other things too!

  • You're not drinking water to get it out of your system BTW, you're told to drink it because otherwise you might dehydrate - a whole lot of water can be lost through loose stools.

  • I hate the taste of water. I wish I liked plain water but I do not. I've pretty much eliminated soda from my diet, which I guess is a small step in the right direction.

Calling it "pop" is definitely a regional thing in my experience. Midwest is a "pop" area, the NYC/tri-state area is a "soda" area, as is southern California.

  • in england we call it pop

  • Water is much more healthier than that poison coffee you drink.

  • @nellzom Tasty Coffee*

  • pop has about twelve definitions: a soft drink; slang for father, a genre of music; a style of dance; a very common sound (gun shots, popcorn popping); Corn Pops the cereal; a skateboard term for getting off the ground.

Soda has about two different meaning. there is the soft drink soda, and then there is the chemical compound of soda (sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate. etc.). And it's pretty easy to tell which a person is talking about

  • I'm the same way as her pops. Haven't drank plain water for 9 years. People tell me "enjoy liver failure lol11one!" (every drink has water content, duherr)

But Dodger is probably the only chick I've ever seen who kicks into cool personality mode without needing booze.

  • I live in Canada and I've been to pretty much every maritime province and I can say for a fact that I've almost NEVER heard anyone call it "Soda." It's pop. xP

  • i call it pop, most british people call it pop or fizzy drink haha soda sounds soo wierd!!

  • dont worry dodger! like all of Canada calls it pop!

  • i absolutely LOVE WATER and YOUR HAIR IS AWESOME ;OOO i love it!!!!!!!! it looks soft.. how do u get that effect O.o.. i seem so girly now but iam rly interressted! :D

    have a nice day

  • ITS CALLED SODA.

  • Dodger! Do a google search for 'soda vs pop,' and look at the third image. It's a graphical representation of who calls it soda and who calls it pop.

  • @Purkinje90 popvssoda(.)com

  • Way to use 'juxtaposition'! I love that word....

  • Alot of people over in MA call fountain drinks Coke or Cola ... It is weird ... I just remember being told that Coca-Cola owns the majority of what is the fountain drink world so calling it Coke pretty much address it all ... LOL Another fun fact is they call water fountains bubblers LOL never knew that was a cultural thing till I tried to ask were one was when I was not in MA haha

  • It's not called either of those. It's called Coke. Which is perfect because it's the only drink that matters in terms of carbonated beverages. Otherwise, water is the best, and yes that is why it is much easier to chug things that don't bubble, because of that damn irritation.

Also, you're a terrorist Dodger, a damn terrorist.

  • Fizzy drinks in Ireland, and D You always get checked in airports 'cus it's peoples excuse to get close to You;)

  • its called soft drinks in ireland eg coke for coke 7up for 7up says as thevaroedition above

  • some one using a word other than the one you use to call something is a really silly thing to get annoyed at, especially if you understand it.

  • agreed coke is short for coca-cola and coca-cola only =P

that said the coca-cola company owns ALLOT of the major soda companies

  • TD - travelers dementia, forgets where she is

  • 3:16 :)

  • About pop or soda, we have the same issue in Sweden. Especially about coca cola. People either call it cola or coca. I for one say cola, the only ones who say coca are the ones in the south of sweden, and they're weird :) And i am just as confused, as you are, as to why this is. But for me, cola is the right thing so say.

  • it's called frisdrank in Belgium..

    frisdrank.. fris.. drank

    fris= fresh

    drank= drink

    FRESH DRINK OF BELAIR

aaaanyway, we also call it by it's name. like cola=cola, fanta=fanta, sprite=sprite,..

    you get the idea..

  • Water dehydrates you aswell ;).

  • It's (soda pop) is called soft drink in Australia.

  • Pop is mostly a midwest thing. South calls it cola. Deep south calls it coke. We in Iowa call it pop for the most part.

  • L.A. and San Diego Tap Water is the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted (like it's straight out of the swimming pool). We're really spoiled in Austria with our tap water ;D

  • The water is probably Expensive because only tourist's by bottle water cause in europe we normally drink tap water cause most places its cleaner

  • @kasperdchrist Yep, I think so too, when the tap water is generally perfectly drinkable you don't buy bottled water all that much.

  • i love your monologues -- am always amazed at the way it comes together.

as to constantly being searched? it must be some inside sign or signal -- this one we search.

I grew up with soda, pop and soft drink being interchangeable general terms. or you could ask for a brand (RC, Coke, etc)

  • Here in the UK we just call them what they are (Coke, Pepsi, Fanta, Sprite etc) or "Soft Drinks" but you dont ask for that.

  • 4:11

    thumbs up.

  • TRAVELERS DYSENTERY.

  • Diarrhea cha cha cha, diarrhea cha cha cha

  • I've never been aggrevated about the soda/pop thing, but calling it coke is too much.

  • @ralphrubbish That is crazy. I haven't been all over the US or anything, but I've never heard of pop being referred to as coke. That would be confusing. I would think coke meant Coca-Cola. I know I always refer to Coca-Cola as coke. I just checked out a few pop vs soda sites and was really suprised to see so many states refer to it as coke. I've been to many of those states and never heard it. Idk.

  • yeah, when i was growing up in the midwest it was - hey, you wanna coke? yeah! what kind? mountain dew!

  • One of the first debate you have when you join the US military is who call it Pop, Soda, or "coke". Sadly there is whole website devoted to it... popvssoda com. Great to have you back :D

  • I was just going to say we call it pop in Michigan and then I saw the comment below. Well, I'm still going to say it. That's funny though. I've never been anywhere else in the US that I heard a carbonated beverage called pop. I really haven't been to too many different states though.

  • In Canada, in the western part at least, we call it pop. I never hear anyone call it soda.

  • In Michigan we all call it pop, but whenever i travel outside of Michigan, even just down in Ohio if i ask for pop i get a weird look and there like "its soda!" and i'm like "F U, suck on my pop"

  • Thumbs up if you googled "soda versus pop map" after watching this video!

  • Who the hell calls it soda? Soda sounds so bleh...

  • @FyeRee Most people. Pop sounds ridiculous.

  • @MrZhabadasher Its short and sweet, soda is just... bulky and ugly sounding, but that is only my opinion

  • I work at a movie theater, so when people ask for "pop" it gets a little confusing... Especially sense most of them have accents and/or mumble >_<

  • I feel like this channel is filled with greasy mongoloid neckbeard subscribers. Why else would you watch this? It's just a girl talking randomly it's like listening to a regular phone call.

  • love the taste of water? isn't filtered water tasteless / flavorless? and colorless, and odorless lol

  • I went on a fishing trip to Canada , we stayed in these little cabins on islands. The water tasted like the smell of tar... it was not fun...

  • Lol you're trying to defend the fact that you call it pop then you go and say flack! LOL!

  • Traveler's Diarrhea! >:)

  • It's pop

  • I'm a trademark Nazi, so to speak. It's only Coke if it's made by the Coca-Cola Co. and has Coke on the label. Same with Xerox and Laundromat. Maybe not so much Xerox any more, 'cause they kinda followed the dodo bird. Anyway... Rambling!

  • @dexteritybonus I just realized that others have said this first, but check out Pop vs Soda with a dot and a com. (And this is not spam. Spam comes in a can, but it usually doesn't have fizzy bubbles. I just figured that in your 500+ comments, this valuable info may have been lost.)

  • you look like a grown up person thingy with that hair

  • @intindse Was just thinking that. Our little Dodger is growing up...

  • Comment removed

  • i call it something else, i call it "gaseosa", but im from another part or america, is called south america, and i speak spanish... yeah, america is a big continent...

  • Pop vs Soda dotted com has a map. Oregoneans call it pop. SoCal folks call it soda.

  • Where I'm from Mexico (Juarez)we say it coca in Texas(el paso) we say it coke and now that I'm in Colorado (Denver) it is said soda and I'm still getting use to that

  • I think it's wrong to say that any liquid dehydrates you. While you may pee more than usual when drinking some stuff like coffee, beer or soda you certainly could easily survive drinking no other liquid than those. So clearly they provide more water than they make you shed.

For the map of different names for soft drinks in the US google 'soda pop coke map'. In general, California, Arizona, the North East, KC and Miami call it "soda". The South call it "coke". And the rest call it "pop".

  • seriously thought TD was a myth lol

  • Travelers Diarrhea? im sorry dodger hope you feel better soon :)

  • In Australia we call it 'Soft Drink'

  • @HollowDelusions In the US, in general, Soft Drinks contain no alcohol. They include juice, but not water, strangely. Hard Drinks=alcohol.

  • @TheVaroEdition huh that's weird. In Australia, they as I said they're technically known as Soft Drinks, but everyone just calls them what they are (Coke for Coke, Pepsi for Pepsi etc). Juice is juice. Water is water. Alcohol is alcohol. We even call the type of alcohol what it is (beer is beer, Jack Daniel's is Jack Daniel's etc etc).

  • @HollowDelusions Same in England.

  • @HollowDelusions In Australia, people say "boat" funny.

  • @HollowDelusions Yeah, in the UK, 'pop' is the super ultra old-timer word to call soft drinks, like if you were in Edwardian times and it was in a glass bottle and a cork. Soda is cream soda, that disgusting vanilla drink. In England we just say soft drinks or fizzy drinks and call everything by what it is.

  • @beatchef actually, I used to say pop when I was younger, so...yeah. (i'm in the UK btw)

  • @TheRojoJojo Was it from panda pops? They stopped making pada pops altogether recently. The end of an era for school christmas parties and discos :(

  • In Texas we call it coke, no matter the brand.

  • I say soda, but my sister says pop

  • I fell down the stairs today at school and had to come home early (Australia its 2:33 pm) And then i go on youtube and see Dodger

    And the day brightens

  • omg did you see all the shoos on the wall ! Does she use them WALK on walls ? my spider seance is tingling !!!

  • SODA! Im from Nevada and i have never ever heard anyone call it pop or soda pop.

  • NECK PORN. That is all.

  • Canadians call it pop.... never heard people call it soda here.

  • My grandparents call it pop, I call it Coke, but only around like, people I know and stuff like, "Can I have some coke?" and then grab a Dr Pepper, but since I moved to the east coast, soda's been all the rage.

  • Yep. We call it Coke.

  • i hope you feel better :D

  • I call it pop too :)

  • In Canada we always call it pop.

  • Where I live (St. Louis, MO area) pretty much everyone calls it soda. In the south (georgia and such) most people call it cola or coke. Generally cola, which goes back to pepsi cola, rc cola, and coca cola all being the most popular carbonated drink. Pop was shortened from soda pop like you said. Soda pop as a phrase came from popping the cap of the glass bottles back in the day. O-o Why do I know all this? ..... I don't know. Oh, and soda it'self came from soda bicarbonate. :P

  • Pop in Canada.

  • i just watched all 187 videos in a week. best week of my life.

  • In soviet Alaska we call it soda.

  • I call it "Pop" Rochester, NY here! I don't get people who call it "Soda"... IT'S A WHOLE EXTRA SYLLABLE!

  • DIARRHEA

  • north call it pop

    south call it soda

  • @superCbeaner that is so wrong buddy, up here in the North Eastern U.S. we call it soda, pop is mostly a North Western/ Central North American thing

  • i drink carbonated water from time to time, its become acostumed that almost everyone in the house drinks iced tea at least two times a week

  • I only like water in the right time. Sometimes it is AMAZING!

  • I don't believe carbonated drinks dehydrate you. They are almost all water. There are other health problems that are related to drinking carbonated drinks but dehydration isn't one of them.

  • GIRLS DON'T GET TD

  • Pop is most common in Canada. I'm from BC, just North of "all ya'all."

  • In BC Canada, we call it pop.

  • Traveler's diarrhea, abbreviated to TD, is the most common illness affecting travelers.[1] Traveler's diarrhea is defined as three or more unformed stools in 24 hours passed by a traveler, commonly accompanied by abdominal cramps, nausea, and bloating.[2] It does not imply a specific organism, but Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli is the most common.[3]

    Wiki ftw!

  • There is indeed a map, but it seems youtube won't allow me to link it. Et tu, youtube? Et tu? There was also a bunch of linguistic based articles discussing the trend. As for in the UK we call it pop, or even more generic "fizzy drinks" we're pretty uninventive with names "Erm, it's fizzy and you drink it" go us.

  • Looking good, miss Leigh. Looking good.

AND welcome back! I hope you get your sleep/work/life schedule back soon. =D

  • I will never understand people who say water doesn't have a taste. Not all water tastes the same so how could that possibly be true? lol. Tap water and filtered water taste completely different. And some bottled waters taste awful, while some are beyond delicious. Oh well... Glad you think it's yummy! Bonus that it's good for you. ;p

Hope you feel better soon, Dodger!

  • I don't speak for all Australians, but the people I know refer to carbonated drinks by their generic names, such as 'lemonade', 'cola', etc; as well as referring to the specific drinks like Coke, Fanta, Pepsi, etc.

  • what the hell is soda anyways? <- is Australian

  • NO water does NOT have taste. lol im kinda addicted to caffine

  • I'm Canadian and I say soft drink. Soda and pop both sound anachronistic.
