@shannz2009 My parents also named me Shannon after the river too :3 My brother from my Dad's side is currently married in Ireland with a child on the way :D I'm Scottish though.At school I told my friends that there was a river called Shannon and they chuckled and said that I'm famous so I have a river named after me X3 Lol,sometimes they just say the randomest things XD Btw,your story=Aww!How romantic :3
Regardless of whether you are Irish--- you say you are partly so--- or not, be proud of the name given to you,hey! And be glad you weren't raised by your parents the way these mocking people were. Perhaps they were scarred for life by certain circumstances, or ill-bred to say the least, hence their annoying derision towards you. Nevertheless, stand tall and proud. They are just a bunch of unloved irrational beings. ;-)
Shannon is a very common name - I know at least 10 people with that name - both male and female - young and old. Red hair, brown, black, blonde - what' s the diff? Insecure people always pick on others. It hurts, I know - but, remember, it's what you ARE - not how you look that really counts. Be the kind of person you would want a friend to be - it will work out in time. Sometimes we have to grow up and away from small, narrow minded people. Beautiful river though - hope to see it someday.
