before that race benetton was one of the teams that had 2 filters. in this race they removed only one. That was legal, because the fia only want one filter. So everything was ok with the fuelfilter. I think the gasolineman (dont know the right word) pull it ro early from the car so some gasoline is blown all over the car. an it start burning when it contact some hot parts of the car.

@MuziKFreak009 The team was run by that cheating fat bastard Flavio Briatore. All the fuel rigs were supplied by one company and were all suposed to be the same. As far as I can remember the team removed some components to increase the flow rate to make the pit stops faster, this caused the fuel to flow before it was properly connected.

Benetton used 2 because of the safety and lost time in the Box because of that. Flavio was a bit cheater, yes, but there wasn't some irregular in the Fuel rig. it was a failure while filling.

So you should get your facts right boy! Benetton was in this year the only team that used 2 Filters and in this race they removed only one...

Without the filter, fuel flowed into the car at 12.5% faster than usual, saving aboujt one second per pit stop.

That is why Benneton's pitstops were so much faster than the other teams' in 1994. The fiasco with Verstappen's pitstop is exactly the reason the safety features were in place, to prevent a fuel splash such as that one.

Of course, Benneton lived by a different set of rules and F1 looked the other way when Schumacher was driving.
