This was the theme I got accustomed to after NFL on NBC dropped out.
*sigh* What great memories of going to that one restaurant with my Dad and the DC Black and Gold (now Virginia B&G) Club to see the games every Sunday.
@TheMadStork83 In all honesty, I find it more interesting to see what music and graphics televison uses over the years because it showcases creativity and is interesting to compare.
The actual game of people banging into each other can be exciting at times but it looks pretty much the same in any year.
You know, I've been thinking about it, and I think if they went back to this theme for games, they could keep Posthumous Zone and First on the Field for the starting lineups and occasional commercial breaks. Why not, Fox uses different variations of their theme for starting lineups and transitioning to and from commercials.
Forgot to mention, NBC also uses different variations of the John Williams theme. Also, I just looked at the pisture of the old FoxBox again (its on Wikis NFL on FOX page, if you want to know) and they could also get rid of the little black dot between the qaurter number and gametime and the little section to the right of the teams.
Ok, for anyone that's confused, this song is called "Super Bowl" by Frankie Vinci. It debuted on Jan. 27, 1992 for Super Bowl 26. It ran through the 1992 season till the 1993 NFC Championship Game, then came back in 1998 in the same tune, but slightly redone. THIS VERSION was used for the '99 and '00 seasons, then another version was used for the '01 and '02 seasons. The newest version had the same tune as this one, but it was still different. Now Posthumous Zone is the theme song.
@MrDariusJWilliams you are mostly correct. This particular version debuted week 1 of the 1999 regular season and was used up through the AFC title game between Baltimore and Oakland in January of 2001 then was used again for the 2001 preseason. The version used for 01 and 02 was used at Super bowl 35 between Baltimore and NY Giants and then returned for week 1 of the 2001 regular season and was used through the 03 preseason. the posthumus zone debuted week 1 of 03 regular season
@bayou432 Well, I was just giving ppl the gist of things. But I wouldn't exactly remember the exact dates, cause when these versions, including this one, of this song were first introduced, I was between the ages of 6 and 9. But now, I have a bit of a clearer understanding of what exactly went down. Thanx, I appreciate it, and I ain't being sarcastic, I'm serious :)
@MrDariusJWilliams I understood what were you were trying to say in that earlier post, and instead of saying you were mostly correct, I should have just said that I just wanted to give a little more info on the evolution of that theme. I did a lot of NFL watching back then and remember being pissed off with CBS changing versions of the theme so many times (mainly because I liked the 1998 version) . I am honestly shocked that they have stuck with their Posthumus theme for 7 years now.
@bayou432 I feel kinda the same way about the theme song always changing! The 1998 version was the first one I had ever heard, and I think I heard it just once, but I liked it a lot, and then they changed it to this the next year. This wasn't bad, but they changed it again in 2001, and now, since 2003, they've used Posthumus Zone, which I honestly really like. But overall, couldn't the NFL on CBS have left well enough alone?
@MrDariusJWilliams Yeah, they definitely could have left it alone. What's funny is FOX has kept their same theme ever since they started telelvising the NFL in 1994. I have read comments on other NFL theme music videos that if FOX ever gets rid of their long-time music, they will raise hell with the FOX executives! I don't think they have to worry though, because I know that it is a highly popular ringtone for cellphones.
@bayou432 That's why I'm not pissed at FOX that much. They've just messed with their graphics too much, but it seems like they're getting simpler and not too 3D. CBS changes a little too much though. I'm gonna discuss these things on a webcam rant. I dunno when it'll be up, but I'll try and get it up soon, I just got a lot going on. It'll focus on things like graphics, themes songs, channels, etc. Just thought I'd get that off my chest.
Fox's presentation is not the problem. It's keeping that thing they call a pbp announcer Joe Buck. I do wish they would go back to the original FoxBox with a few variations; the word "FOX" would have to be changed to "NFL ON FOX" to reflect branding and the time would have to be placed beneath the score and read x amount of time followed by the qaurter number. Beneath that would be the down and yards to go. That would be perfect.
@bakerandbaker1 U know, a lot of ppl seem 2 h8 Joe Buck, but I've never really seen much wrong with him. Maybe he's not as exciting as others, but he doesn't seem THAT bad. I'm young tho, so maybe I don't pay enough attention 2 that kind of thing. I'd like 2 know what u don't like about him cuz I don't know what's wrong with him. Anyway, the way u described what the FoxBox should look like sounds nice. The teams could go on the left, visitor on top, home on bottom.
what does 1991 have to do with a timeless piece like this? This isn't rap or rock n' roll, its timeless classic instruments that are used to pump people up for a game. That like saying get over it people, Tchaikovsky died 100 years ago, and we should look over his work. Come on man.
CBS used this theme from 1999-2000 (the theme immediately prior to the current one debuted at Super Bowl XXXV). This is as alluded to, a reworking of the 1992-1993 theme (the last two years that they covered the NFC). The theme, simply called "Super Bowl", was written by Frankie Vinci. It was first used by CBS at Super Bowl XXVI.
I know that and you are right, this is an updated theme (what we call a remix). Anybody would know where it truly came from, the 92-93 intro. This isn't such a big issue GameShowFan1999. Calm down and you dont need to curse at me my dude, that's not nice. Maybe you've 4gotten the fact I said I didn't watch football from 1999-2002, I was married aiight. Dipset
This is the NFL! I can just pitcure my Broncos dominating in 1998 when CBS brought back a version of this. No question that this version is an upgrade from 1998! Right now, Ian Eagle is doing a masterful intro with this backdrop in my mind's eye. Posthumus, you suck. Bring this back!
O actually got a clip from the '98 and '99 season intros ( I love them). Now Im just trying to master my collection so I can get over the fact I missed football during these times. GameShow Fan, I hate to break ya heart but this is from the 1999-2000 season. They changed it, look at my viedos and you'll find them all. Ya dig
Hey guys to clear this up this was the theme that was used during the 1999 and 2000 seasons...and dayungunna if i happen to do find the full versions from 01and 03 i'll post them up for you
Does anyone have the full version from the 2001 and 2003 seasons???? If you do I would love to get them. By the way this is a good one. I wasn't able to watch football from 1999-2002. That's another story.
