We've had these for a while now where I live (FL, USA). They're in Home Depots and Targets. They don't use 'em as much as when they first came out though because people found a way to get past them without paying, lol.
@sciences8 I think that RFIDs on products would be very cool. The whole basket could be calculated instantly or perhaps a weight based system could work as a reference?
Well, it was a scanner system just like in the video. The only difference was that people would scan some items and not others, and then when the alarms went off they would claim they scanned them. Eventually the employees caught on; lasted for a week or so- was pretty funny.
