Judaism is a religion of a people; Jews or Yehudim are a people, one tribe (Judah aka Yehuda) of the twelve descended from Avraham. Having said that, people outside of Judaism can adopt the religion, and people outside of the Jews can marry in to, or be adopted by the tribe. are we settled? Now we can get in to the question of what happened to the other eleven tribes? maybe not. lol.
Being Jewish is NOT a religion....Its a way of life....Its not like being christian or muslim...Its a PEOPLE BORN..Yes, you can convert, & follow Jewish beliefs but again, its NOT a religion!
@MyLifesPromise I hate to point out the obvious, but I've heard pretty much the same thing said of Catholicism. Jews are a cultural sub-set unto themselves, but the reality is that it is centered around a religion.
@ashakydd1 If you read the bible..You have Jews, you have gentiles...They are seperated. Jews, if anything, are a race of people who happen to believe in Yahweh. Catholics are a religion. You can be born into a family who happens to be catholic, but catholics are not a "race"...It is a religion...My parents are considered christian, but that doesnt mean that I am. You can not be born a CHRISTIAN...U either accept Christianity or u dont..I am one who doesn't. I consider myself an Israelite/Jewish
awesome!!!!SHALOM...loove MATISYAHU,Love YAHWEH.LOVE YAHUSHUA HA MASHIAC...

Leave religion out of it and appreciate it as the beautiful song that it is. Freedom of religion is a beautiful thing, and the freedom to express your religion in a way that it touches others hearts is even more special.
Regardless of the nationality of the man,it is the MISSIONARY to the WORDS that you could live here import. The does not matter for the person who sings or you're muslim or jew,... are ! It's the CONTENT of the song ! Besides religion /or/not to do with the nationality from the human.Je now or ever would see if you want to see of course ?The rest of this song can be found in the duality of live and is necessary if you open stand, regardless of natinality from the human.
@manaliveable I've never heard anybody say that it's sacrilege to sing praise, where does it specifically say in Jewish scripture that this is forbidden? I find it very hard to believe that your narrow point of view is accurate.
@sess224 Religion is by definition a set of rules, otherwise it is not religion. Unless you define religion as a way of life -- but in that case, I can stand on my head once a day and call that religion too. But even assuming that is your definition of religion (as can be deducted from your flippant manner "follow to an extent" and taking it easy when it starts to get difficult and "sound like hell"), Judaism is not a "feel good way of life" the Bible instructs us how to live our life, and
it's so tragic to see this happen to yet another singer, they all just seem to go off the deep end eventually. saying g-ds name in a blessing is against jewish law, what he does here flies against a very basic law. this constitutes a blatant disregard for what jews call holy, he profanes g-ds name - stop reinventing judasim, matisyahu, get back to basics
@GothikaKatana sure, he's his own person, but he claims to part of a tribe, part of a religion - and every religion has its own set of rules. christian, protestant, catholic, muslim - whatever religion it is, if you proclaim to be a follower, than you do as the tribe does. simple as that. once you start making up your own rules, you essentially start making up your own religion, bc religion is about following someone else's rules, not doing as you please.
@GothikaKatana oh and by the way, you sound very vapid and infantile, the way you curse like that. instead of the knee-jerk reaction by cursing so rudely, try respond next time with a little logic and sense, not just some vile expletives
I am not of the Jewish faith, but by just going by the music alone was very beautiful. Matisyahu's beat - boxing skills are not that great. He's a great singer, but maybe its the wind screen and the heavily edit of the audio as he was beat - boxing had something to do with it.
i thought the heter was that if you are really praying and praising, The Holy Names may be spoken .... he seems to be praying, praising and being mindful ... plus he is promulgating the sanctity and the goodness by saying the names..... as well as teaching and inspiring us .... one love .....Glory be to HaShem ... in our hearts and in our voices ..... permeate with Love everywhere
@antekification hey dickmouth, how about you learn to spell and realize that it is not the "juice" it is the jews. plus, you are the racist one, generalizing all jews like that. by the way, your mother called, she wanted to ask me if you remembered to put on your pussy cream.
its a shame how people get so serious talking about religion. If they took the same dedication and energy and put that into science i guarantee that once they find out the truth there will be peace on earth finally instead of bickering back and forth with each other.
@sexygerm - There are an awful lot of serious discussions and a LOT of bickering in science, too. Not any one way of life or belief is perfect and argument-free!
The way to peace on earth is for all people to learn to live with our differences, and to agree that differences are what make each person special. Differences are what make the world a beautiful, unique place; each race, each religion adding it's own special ingredient to the stew called humanity.
@BleuJayLady How many people are killed in the name of religion vs how many people kill one another in the name of science? Religion installs fear and installs a false sense of reality into people. What makes this world a beautiful unique place is what lies in and on it. what makes each person special is the ability to contribute towards the human race, and the advancement of our well being. Amen your way to a telescope or into NatGeo channel and educate the world on whats REAL.
@sexygerm Many people/living creatures have died in the name of science. But your argument is weak anyhow. Just because people have killed in the name of religion means that it is not real? On the contrary.. I would think that people who are passionate enough about religion to kill over it, makes it VERY real. There is a passion there, wouldn't you agree?
Haters. As R' Yisroel Salanter once said, "What he did was wrong - and may I be worthy of his place in Hell." Or as R' Nata Greenblatt often says to people who make comments like the posters below, "Heaven is going to be a very lonely place for you." Why do we have to judge everybody and everything? Matis, you da man!
Haters. As R' Yisroel Salanter once said, "May I be worthy of his place in Hell." Or as R' Nata Greenblatt often says to people who make comments like the posters below, "Heaven is going to be a very lonely place for you." Why do we have to judge everybody and everything? Matis, you da man!
@MikeyElvis70 I think when making Brachos, davening, etc. it is always better to read it rather than say it by heart. I think (and somebody can back me up or tell me I'm incorrect) the Lubavitch Rebbe was careful to say Bircat HaMazon out of a bencher.
It's more difficult to read something that you know by heart. Try davening or saying any prayer with your finger under the word you're saying. I was told by my rabbi to do this and I struggle with it. Because it means you're actually praying!
Since G-d's name is holy it shouldn't be pronounced without the proper reverence and awe or level of purity expected. In day-to-day secular conversations we refer to G-d as Hashem (literally "The Name" in Hebrew) according to guidelines in Jewish Halacha (religious code of conduct). A blessing on a mitzvah can only be said when you're actually performing the mitzvah.
@Gruntig2008 this is why people turn away from being religious, please let us enjoy being Jewish for what it is, dont kill it buy checking everyone for small details by doing this u undermine the meaning of what it really mean to be jewish.
Ich liebe Matisyahu!
