They're so funny... I wonder what they rly say, because the vindicator can' translate it well what they are talking about. Btw wanna go check out my IRL Mycon video? It's funny.
"Inside is good. So much good that Orz will always *germinate*". I see this as a parasitic way of procreation. If the Orz are really projections of one entity, then perhaps consuming lifeforms on the *inside* (our dimension) is its way of sustaining itself. They also talk about how much they like to *play* and how some *campers* are better than others. I'm guessing that either means certain lifeforms are more "nutritious" to the Orz, or that they enjoy fighting some groups more than others.
I subscribe to the idea that the Arilou's "parasite" explanation points to none other than the Orz. The dialogue implies that this entity isn't truly in our dimension of space, but is projected into it. Also it appears that by "showing yourself", the Orz consumes you. Once this happens they can project themselves from this area (Androsynth space in this case) and continue to infect the rest of this dimension. Toys for Bob implied this was the main set-up for their sequel they never got to make.
I originally played the PC diskette version, and the Orz voices (or for that matter every other voice in the CD version) is so terrible, I now play UQM with the voices turned off to stop myself the misery.
Nonetheless, Star Control 2 is easily one of the best games ever created - if not the best. Just... without that damn voice! The Orz are so much scarier when you have to imagine what twisted and terrible voice comes out of that fish-like mouth of theirs.
I don't agree that the Orz are supposed to be necessarily "nefarious". Starcon 3 was not made by the same people and whatever conclusions were drawn from that game have absolutely nothing to do with this one. They come across as good in essence but easily angered. One must wonder in fact that Orz (singular) is a child that has followed the androsynth into this dimension after a temperous run. This might explain why it views its ships as toys and use words like campers and parties.
I would also add that the Androsynth are genetically modified humans. They may at one time (before the Arilou changed our "scent") shared a "scent" this with us. Which could have placed humans in danger since this is how the Orz identify with the world. This could also explain why the Orz say the Arilou are always "jumping in front". I think the biggest problem is not intent, it is understanding why the Orz view the world in such a bizzare manner. As I
So essentially, all that stuff about *campers* and *parties* and *smelling* is just the fun way of saying "I'm going to eat your freaking soul, puny human."
No, Orz * smell* the *pretty colourse* and many *Campers* in *heavy space*. You are a *happy camper* and are help Orz with parties for better *enjoyment*. Then *smooth* place all the time and so much *special sauce* is *happy time* everyday. *Happy campers* and Orz have many *parties*, *dessert* and many *special sauce.* Afther Orz connect the *happy campers*, Orz are show other *levels* and have more parties. Always other *sad animals* go way but first we have lot's of *fun*.
i think the orz are pretty obviously (just going by their language) supposed to be a sinister, hedonistic extradimensional entity with a "playful" nature that gets its kicks out of tactile sensations in truespace, including killing and wiping out races. i think the reason their behaviour is aberrant and all over the place is that they aren't being crafty about it; it's just an innate character of the entity to behave in a playful (i mean that without positive or negative connotations) way.
There's an old saying "Something always gets lost in the translation"
Look at Japanese anime. There are people outside of Japan who like to translate it and post subtitles for them so non Japanese speakers can understand.
But Japanese can be a complicated language. Sometimes a translated phrase can come across as nonsensical due to the limitations of the translators skill,
Just imagine that on a larger scale. The computer doesnt have the common context to view the statements in.
Also, the Orz are from *below*, not even *many bubbles* in *heavy space*. Their language is absolutely nothing like anything any species in this dimension could think of.
The same thing happens occasionally with the Arilou, but they're kind and knowledgeable and such, so they try to make sure to speak in *slow time* as much as they can. n.n
I like the Orz voice, but one touch is missing. One of the few things that SC3 does right is that, when it reaches an asterisked ("best-fit") word, the voice suddenly turns to computer-monotone. The effect is almost beautiful on the occasions those best-fits are half of the message.
Long answer pulled from nowhere: the direct translation is mapped into the Orz voice, but the "best-fits" can't be done that way and so the computer does them in "computer-style" monotone.
Orz *replaced* the Androsynth. They were snagged /converted by the entity that was Orz after they messed with some Dimensional Fatigue artifacts at the Lalande systems.
i dont remember... WAS there something wrong with them? i remember you couldnt mention the androsmyth to them or they would atack you, but i never found out why, did the ORZ kill the androsynth?
there's "something wrong" with them in the sense that they are so strange, seem to come from another dimension, you can't figure out their intent, but they seem to think killing is fun... if "they" is even the right word, because you know, they are not *many bubbles*...

my guess, the orz are a race controlled by a computer game player who play a 4x game.

One of the only good things about Star Control 3 is that the Orz voice was infinitely superior to this.

Short answer: Effect.
