... for some reason i impulse-bought it when i saw the explosions in the trailer on steam. don't know why, but it nullified my concern that this might be just another one of those indie games that are just trying to be hip. i don't regret it at all - it's a very polished nostalgic yet fresh experience. while it does get a bit repetitive after a few hours (especially the enemies and the troopers' remarks), it's still very well worth its current price imo

Glad you are giving some love to low res games. I feel that so many game designers try so hard to make a pretty game that they ignore creativity in gameplay. Hey guys :) I'm enjoying the aesthetics discussion a lot- I certainly didn't say to myself 'I'll make a game with bad graphics'.. they are intentionally retro looking because the game itself has retro inspirations, the music is retro- it's kind of a nostalgia trip, with some modern twists like the physics based explosions. @theomega616 The point is that "bad" is an opinion. It's like saying "hamburgers taste bad". You can be disagreed with by somebody who thinks hamburgers taste good.

The correct thing to say is not that this game has "bad" graphics, but instead something like: Low-res, Low-detail, blocky, pixelated, retro, old-looking.. those are all more correct things to say, because those are facts, not opinions.

The graphics are bad. The style is retro, which makes the bad graphics acceptable. All of the things that make good graphics aren't there but that's ok 'cos that is the look they wanted.

It's like a child's picture, you can't say it's a great drawing 'cos all the dogs legs are different lengths but 'cos it's a child's picture that's ok.

If Gustave Corbert painted the exact same picture people would say it's bad

The graphics are bad for a reason, to suit the game. You set out with that aesthetic in mind.

Trying to make a retro game with elite graphics doesn't make sense, the same way trying to make a super realistic game with 8 bit graphics makes no sense
