@deadreck024 Nope, they're a canid, just not a canine! They're their own subgroup, in fact there are several groups of Foxes, and most groups are different enough that they can't crossbreed.
lived with a white wolf malamute for 12 years. he was the cooteley monster and grew to over 150# but played gently with any animal that was cool enough to trust him. he won over the hearts of many animals, even some coyotls. never a fox tho.
your shep reminds me of him. quite a beauty. good vidjo
fox: sniff sniff bump Woah whats that. looks up Dog : hello there why dont you go meet the other dog. other dog: MY BALL! dog : be nice to the little fox *follows other dog* fox: can i have the ball please! dog: wait little one! stay down let me make sure you dont have fleas. your good lets play
No they are not good as pets. We are lucky enough to rescue wildlife and the cubs sometimes play with the dogs, but there comes a time when they revert back t o their wild state and do not want to have anything to do with humans or dogs. They also smell terribly so dont advise having them in the house.
@deb9658 Foxes are like people, their personality differ same with genetics. My fox is rather behaved, more than my cat and dog and he doesn't really stink.
@Garinovitch I want a wolf Hybrid as a pet do you know much about those? I hear different stories about Wolf Hybrids saying they can be excellent pets and some say Wolf Hybrids can be a far worst pet than a pure Wolf itself.
@TheCajunGambit1 We had a Chow Wolf hybrid. He was great, but very hyperactive. He chewed up the siding of the house, dug holes, howled all of the time. If you're going to get a wolf hybrid, you need to live somewhere with a ridiculous amount of space for them to run around in.
@deb9658 You're wrong. I owned a fox named Kiki and she was the best pet I could of ever had. She'd sleep with me every night would walk on a leash would use a litter box and loved going to petco. Saddly some idiot shot her when she was in my backyard playing. I had her from the moment she was a cub till she was 4 * Which is when she got shot*
@blainelhoward that is what you believe. I believe they are wild animals and should be in the wild with others of their own kind. i rescue wildlife and as much as i love rearing the babies i know deep down that their place is back in the wild and that is where they should be.
@deb9658 Mine had never been in the wild was breed and raised in a pet shop that used to be downtown. I believe she was a 6th generation cub was my best friend I don't think she realized she was a fox most days. I'd get another if I could.
@deb9658 I agree with you foxes that come from the wild should be released back to the wild, but if their bought from a repitiable breeder and in the hands of a responsible and knowledgeable owner they can make great pets, and it's not what blainel believes it's a true fact.None of this to be taken out of context and such i respect anyone who helps wildlife, and animals in general and that inculdes you just wanted to get my two cents in.
@EvilMarshmallow3 America has different ideas to us in the uk foxes would never be bred or bought in a pet shop it is completely illegal here, but i guessin that situatation the fox knows no different.
@deb9658 Hope i'm not sounding rude but,America was not the one to come up with the idea and is no way the one leading the way to domesticating foxes if you look it up Germany has been breeding foxes for domesticated pet purposes for a while now if i remember right they've been doing it for around 50 years. Also it is not illegal everywhere in the Uk,nor in Canada or in Germany or America.
Foxes can make great pets as long as you can take proper care of them, like any animal. And as long as you purchase them from a reputable breeder.
Look up the amazing domesticated foxes that are being bred in Russia. Like with domesticating dogs and cats, they choose only the most friendly foxes of each litter to breed, so on and so forth.
Wild foxes deserve to stay in the wild, same with wild dogs and cats. (They also deserve to not be shot :( )
@AlealiaKitsune It's either Russia or Germany ... someone in another comment mentioned Germany but I'm pretty sure there's a big group in Russia as well.
@deb9658 everything was a wild animal at some point youre saying it was cruel of us to domesticate dogs and cats? they were wild animals at some point
@deb9658 if thats what you believe about foxes then thats what you should belive about all animals yes? domisticated dogs and cats were orignally wild animals. but after a lot of generations we domesticated them and now they are perfectly happy and content to be with humans. if it wasnt immoral for us to do it with them why would it be immoral to do it it with an animal like a fox?
@benbrenyefski yes, but they're difficult and need different thins than dogs. foxalbiazul has lots of info about pet foxes, as he got his from a breeder in Oklahoma. On a side note, they're now domesticated, at least a handful in Russia are. A group of Russians have been working since the 60s to bring the fox on as the 15th or so domesticated animal on Earth.
