  • Poor Billy, lots of talent, bad video killed his career.

  • this was my first time watching Saturday Night Live... I tuned in just to watch Billy Squier.

  • Oh my godness, brings back a few memories...lol use to love those jeans he wore in his Stroke video. Remember, that's when MTV was new...hehehe

  • At least he didn't break into the godawful white-guy dance featured in the video for this tune!

  • This GUY SOUNDS LIKE Robert Plant

  • Billy never got the props he deserved....I miss his music, so glad for YouTube!!

  • The guitars are distractedly out of tune, but I love the energy here. Billy's voice is TITS.

  • HELLULUJAH! This song rocked my life! *-*

  • Song is much better when Billy is noy sauntering around gayly like in the video lmao

  • @Mr123456789esm Yes I agree it makes me wonder but still his music was over the top awesome!!!

  • Shaved armpits @ 1:07, wtf?

  • That was the most awesome pitch of a guitar @3:20 I have ever seen!!!!!

  • I thought he did this with bare feet?

  • @mortminoch I grew up hearing he always played on-stage with bare feet too.

  • I got you beat, I had this on LP, I might still have the record stashed in my storage shed even though I bought it on CD anyway, you can pick it up pretty cheap in some grocery stores like Fredmyers on sale.

  • @santafan1120

the drummer is my friends uncle,Bobby Chouinard, may he rest in peace. So yeah I do care

  • bill has always kicked ass....very under rated

  • i saw him open for Queen in 81...he was FANTASTIC....this guy is so talented its crazy....a very underated artist!!!!!

  • HOTEL NEVADA #1 PIMP EVER!!!!!

  • He opened for Queen - how many people got that privilege?

  • love to see this kind of stuff. songs that were all over the radio at the time but had a short shelf life...and they live forever on youtube.

    pink drums

  • Is it just me or does the intro to this rip off Cold as Ice?

  • Great stuff, thanks for posting

  • I love the 80's but I don't remember it being in style for men to shave their armpits. 2:03 check it out

  • Who's the drummer with the PINK drums!?! C'mon!

  • When Billy's hits first hit the radios in the early 1980s, I think people just saw him as a guy with great hair. Trust me, this is more than great hair. The man is a phenomenal talent.

  • The guy is an incredible performer. Talk about passion for music he goes crazy when he performs dancing and singing and shaking and jamming on guitar. He gives the complete performance from his heart and cuts loose. Like the pioneers of Rock &Roll Music did. Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard. And after critical press the fans turned and he had to give up his passion. I am just glad that I was able to see him perform in both large stadium arenas and small clubs. Billy knows how to rock.

  • Yes fantastic performer live. Both huge & small venues. I was 4th row for the tour from this LP/song. 1984 sold out!!!

  • Hey was a real powerful performer and songwriter. He could easily vacillate between rock, r&b, blues and funky styles if he wanted too.

  • Had Ortega/Capitol used this or a simple live performance for the video, Billy's career might have kept rocking...

  • Great sound for television, that didn't happen very often, but I guess SNL had done enough bands to get it right by this point.

  • LOVE Squier, DON't like the tinny, treble tone of his LP Jr. & pups.

  • I think Billy is great. Had lots of style and took a lot of chances on stage... comes off fresh and genuine. It was that freakin video to this song that just fucked everything up... a great song; but they cornholed it with that little red riding-hood skipping around shit.

  • he looks a lot like vivian campbell

  • Excellent performance! You can tell they had fun doing it. By the way, all bands fade away sooner or later even if they're a step above the mainstream. Tossing his axe to the stage hand was a nice touch of showmanship. Clasic stage moves can't be done by all rockers .. Billy did it well.

  • billy squire is cool in my book but pitching a gibson is not smart !

  • @sweetgyy yeah that Les Paul jr. i believe

  • @cdjunky41 I think what we all wonder is what the fuck are you doing on this page if you feel that way and who are you to say what lyrics/music are good or not? you are obviously a jerk, probably unemployed and have nothing better to do, you fuckwad!

  • @cdjunky41 I always liked his lyrics, love his voice and would go and see him if he came to my town.

  • Unfortunetly he didn't have the best director for the video....

  • I'm not sure if it was the "video" that was the death of him. If you remember , this came out in 1984 when Motley Crue , Ratt and Van Halen were really the top guitar rock bands. Those bands were all about shredding ( Van Halen was more substance yes however still shred) whereas Billy was still a guitar rock band minus the shredder. That seemed to really hinder bands at that point. He should have gone more toward the Springsteen side of rock to stay on top .

  • @mlmr11 Exactly. I was thinking that to myself the other day, that really he was the last true like "rock" dude out there.

  • He he he .....what a song...my brother and me were in the USA when this song was a hit and on MTV every 15 mins.....we used to laugh at this....the guy was actually a very very talented rocker.....still is!! But apparently the vid for this song was the death of him...he got castigated by his fans for it!!! Poor geezer

  • LOVE Squier, but Billy, keep that gain/prescence on the Marshall on 11! MUCH better than this tinny, trebley, LP Jr tone. HARD ROCK that Flashdance facade away... ;)

  • I have a stupid question but who really cares if he is gay or not? Talent is talent whether you are gay or not. To me it seems like if you got turned off by his music when you first saw the video you must have been a meathead football player back in your allstar highschool days. And no im not gay, so flamers chill the fuck out. There are so many "artists" today getting way to much recognition, a.k.a kesha etc. who autotune the hell out of there music. Real talent needs to be recognized

  • Nice performance. None of that "dancing" here.

  • I remember watching this when it aired. His failure to hit the high notes was as bad as I remembered it.

  • Alas, if only he had made a simple ass-kickin', no nonsense video for this song, i.e. "The Stroke." Billy, turn DOWN the treble & UP the bass, mid gain & Prescence on that Marshall! Billy's tone was always a tad too tinny.

  • He is a mix of Robert Plant and Jagger.

He is so good for sing.

And this somg is amazing, unrepetible.

  • @Vampirevalaquia He is awesome isn't he? I feel so pissed that they sabotaged his career with that horrible video. He deserved much more... great artist indeed.

  • This video is Billy "Jumping the shark" with his career. Watching him convulsing and stomping around like his feet were asleep killed it for me. HUGE fan of "Don't Say No" and everything on it...but not this tune. When the video hit MTV it was his blasting-out-of-the-closet moment. Yes folks...he's gay. I think he should have fired his manager after saying"hey Billy that video is great!"

    Just sayin... ;)

  • @bionickid 'gay' but married to a woman ?

  • that video with the pink shirt..."cocaine's a helluva drug!"

  • Much better than the official video for the song, but towards the very end, he slipped into some of those same movements from the vid. Even as I watched this live performance, though, I still saw visions of him prancing around. I guess his music video scarred me for life. LOL. :)

  • If he had only done a live performance instead of that damn video he would have stayed popular through to the mid 90s at least. That video was soooooo bad. Even I couldnt take him seriously and I loved his music.

  • squier plays a junior, the other guy has a special

  • awesome vocalist, songwriter, all-around musician and spiritual genius.

Why did he have to prance in that one video??? ---Why?????-----WHYYYYyyyyyy!!!!!

  • Hnads down the best Tshirts and blue jeans no BS rock n roller there ever was.

Happy to say he STILL has it, saw a few shows from the 2009 tour and he burned it up. Having a top notch band helps but Billy is the Man.

    Brian in CT

  • sick les pauls

  • wow he has an awesome voice man, i thought it would sound a little different live, but this is fuckin awesome. Aside from the video for this song, although i think its funny.

  • Sounds like "Cold As Ice".

  • He should do a comeback

  • He reunited with his bass & keyboard player this summer for a headlining tour. Finishes up this weekend in NYC. Sorry you missed it. I seen 3 shows & all were awesome!

  • @JonnyInfinite he did

  • @JonnyInfinite I thought he toured with Ringo's all star band recently. His noodling at the beginning is great. He tours with his vintage stuff, crazy.

  • he did a solo tour in 2009 about 60 dates.he di this one of course. great performer live. no gimmicks

  • this is what he SHOULD HAVE DONE for the video instead of the video where he is prancing around and squirming all over the floor. That video single handedly destroyed his career. He should have strangled the director of that video.

  • G`d speed curt cobain but this stuff was happier if not greazier

  • this isnt commie music

  • lp jr rock it

  • I actually have this on VHS and "All Night Long" which Billy sang later in the show,I need to get them transfered to DVD!!! Thanks again for posting Squier ROCKS!!!!

  • I used to have this + all night long but lost tape in all my moves. When you do convert to DVD I'll buy a copy

  • Squier ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He definately ROCKS!

  • he just kills it here, awesome

  • Most underrated band ever!

  • Best Country band I ever say...LOL.

I always did like the feel of this song.

  • Billy isn't country. He's a Rocker and I believe the first known artist to make it big on MTV when MTV was MTV. I don't dare watch it now.
