Australian army is voluntary. These guys are civilians, some of them dont even wanna be in the army but they have to.Therefore the government has to be fair and cut some slack on them.Besides,it's only their first month.
Don't compare your Australian army with us. These guys are just recruits, civilians going through a transformation phase into a soldier. Be humble mate...
@lamestbiokinectic The SAR 21 weighs 3.82 kgs vs the 3.6 kg F88 Austyr. The exact material composition of the F88 Austyr is classified but its made of a "high level of polymer and advanced alloy components". There are major design flaws with SAR 21, given the rifle cost only 90 AUD vs almost $20,000 AUD for the Austyr that is understandable.
@laubeatz Why are you so bent on highlighting the differences as if singaporeans should look up to the australian system? If u're watching this, refrain from comparing and be a little sensitive to your intentions in stating your comments.
This episode just proves sometimes how intense ns is, physically, mentally, emotionally. Being in Shawn position sucks and so is watching ur buddy dropping out from the course
Not as intense as what i remembered, and even then my BMT was only 3 yrs ago... Then again since this COY underwent filming, i suppose it's a more lenient COY for this intake. next intake sure garung again after all the commanders get itchy finger from being too soft.
@CaptainAmerica322 Enlistment is compulsory in Singapore for all male citizens, so the treatment is definitely different. Compulsory military service is a rather sensitive political affair, since every family who has a teenager son will generally be somewhat critical if the training becomes even a little bit abusive.
Yeah good point. What you say is true. Although, when America had compulsory service during the Vietnam War, the training was extremely brutal, but again, that was during a war in which thousands of men were being killed. Most of the draftees were hippies, and therefore had to be brutally disciplined into the ways of military life before they were sent to the meatgrinder. But, seeing as Singapore is not at war, you are correct. There is no need for draftees to be brutalized. Thanks
@CaptainAmerica322 I have to agree that the training in Singapore isn't as brutal as the training in the US - but they DEFINITELY cut the more mentally challenging parts of BMT out from the video. It isn't as lenient as some episodes of the series seem to suggest
@CaptainAmerica322 u have to remember the US troops wanted to join the army in singapore u HAVE to so obviously they have to be a bit easier on them how would u like to be forced into something
so true....but still the video only seem's to show the fun, happy go lucky parts of bmt. They do not show us the mental suffering from having to knock it down 1000, or the way recruits are treated by the commanders sometimes.
@MitLancer19They r new, wat do u expect? U lao cheow expect them be so gd, as if u gd ah! This wat generation ah? Even a 12 yr old like me can understand them better, stupid.
@yusasasa You serious? Well, your time will come... maybe you'll change your mind, or maybe you'll sign on. Enjoy life a bit more first before you go NS. =)
I miss the route march the most out of all the activities there (SOC can go to hell...). But my feet always turn into giant blisters at the end of the day... and the abrasions. Oh, the abrasions... ><
@liionsking During a long march in the afternoon, whenever you stop in the forested areas, look at yourself or your buddies - You'll see steam rising off your bodies. No joke. =P
I still remember that I was "fucking" my platoon buddies during route match whenever they wanted to give up. Brings back some nice nostalgic memories for me
1) If you do not put in effort ( wayang ) in BMT - OCS ? Possible ?
2) Ticked Command Sch -> Average Perfomance -> SPEC ? Possible ?
Life is not that easy, a rank is a badge of responsibility. They have emphasize that there is no difference between Specialists and Officers - think again.
-- Army is where you learn and see all sorts of characters
I didn't do route march until ICT. I seriously injured my back on my first attempt at SOC. So boys, good luck, stay safe and listen to your Sect Comms.
@ninjax105@ninjax105 i agreed totally, i went for an ankle reconstruction after my training back from India, i am from Armor thou, 46 SAR, i recommend too as well, reporting your old and existing injuries, if not, don't blame anyone else!

Hi cyberpioneer, nice angle of telling the story from the OOC recruit. It must be a pity or heart wrenching to miss out the camraderie from his platoon mates.
the singaporean Son song is really nice..this version. I downloaded it and it's on repeat mode. I miss my BMT days..the best time of my entrie NS term.
i personally like this series .. and catching it everyday .. makes me miss my bmt ... which is like 5 years back .. (i have not ord yet) and seriously this is much more insight of bmt in a soldier's point of view
woa, i learned something in this video. i feel sad la sir. very depressing la. got to leave the whole team but to take care of my mental health la sir.
The songs in every video reflects badly of Singapore, the way the guy sings it, the grammar used, the tone, the music is horrible. Well, that's just my opinion.
1) these white horses recruits are told to say the right and sanitised thing.
Or
2) the whole SAF BMT thing today is like wearing mini skirts and high heels.
so now there's no change parade, no tekan, no crawling on fours, no vulgarities, no rotten cookhouse food, unlimited canteen breaks, no hokkien pengs.
No profanities means wear skirts lah!!!!
No profanities ? why don't u go tell those old soldiers about NO PROFANITIES.
the videos in this series certainly brings a lot of memories and emotions. Its not fair to compare my BMT and these guy's BMT but I do feel my batch had to go through a lot tougher training. Certainly miss the route marches, fast marches (in FBO) up the Tekong Highway, getting 'tekan' by my sargeants, the whole experience. Until now I can't believe I complete my 24km route march while I was having a flu. Thankfully I had my buddy to take care of me. I miss the Army truly.
Thanks for all the videos of "Every Singaporean Son", cyberpioneertv! At least they give me a rough idea of how NS will be like for me when it is time for me to enter and serve. (:
Unique - you guys used the plastic bag to wrap your belongings , i could not during my service days as the Sarge told us not to and when it rains - we are always soaked drench and the weight gets heavier with heavy soaked laden dead weights on our backs. lol.
Hi guys, please be mindful that these soldiers are real people and not actors. We encourage comments (minus profanities), but please give them the respect they deserve. You would want the same respect if it was you in the series. Thanks for your understanding.
I agree with cyber. Even if this wasnt form your country. Pls show some respect. Imagine if singaporeans said these kinds of things to the shows made in your country. In singapore or any other country, army is no joke.
I like Roger Chen's choice of words about the training.... "before we ALLOW recruits to participate in the 24km route march..."..."before we ALLOW them to wear their long no.4.."
Makes it sound like the recruits are begging to wear long 4 etc...
Recruit 16km route march fullpack heavy & tired meh? Dont complaint. Wanna try carry ATGM(anti-tank guided missile) for 16km route march. It's total weight of rifle, LPV, helmet and the 2 missile weigh 35 - 40kg on your body. I have been thru with this load for 2yrs, Carry in outfield and Taiwan. No such thing as a free lunch , even in the military service and those whose father or uncles had done their duties - should provide the necessary guidance to the younger generations , instead of ; " Oh they will be fine , fit and taken care of " bull crap.

@Jayzer313 of course its better.. i personally would prefer wearing that as to specs but what to do? im only a recruit lol.. must listen to orders -.-
Hi @Jayzer313, soldiers are advised to wear specs for hygiene and safety reasons as conditions out in the field are not suitable for the high hygiene standards required of contact lens users. :)

NS can wear contacts or do we have to change to the black plastic specs?
Jayzer313 1 year ago
@Jayzer313 depends on the coy you are in.. for my company, we weren't allowed to wear one.. only black specs are allowed
corleone1820 1 year ago
@corleone1820 o...but i heard from my cousin contact is better when handling rifle.
Jayzer313 1 year ago
@Jayzer313 of course its better.. i personally would prefer wearing that as to specs but what to do? im only a recruit lol.. must listen to orders -.-
corleone1820 1 year ago
Hi @Jayzer313, soldiers are advised to wear specs for hygiene and safety reasons as conditions out in the field are not suitable for the high hygiene standards required of contact lens users. :)
cyberpioneertv 1 year ago
@Jayzer313 best not to wear contacts, dust everywhere >.<
Specs ya black frames..
