That was my area in hanger 3 with the liberty boats. I was in deck department and worked each of the liberty boats. The Captains gig which was black, was on the top left as the person was walking into hanger 2. I spent MANY a day repairing the fiberglass on the liberty boats in hanger 3. Good times and good memories.
i was g3 weapons aboard the tr, from 96 to 99, brings back memories! cant wait to take my son to see the naval base in norfolk. thanks for all you do, and good on ya! lol
Do you guys get Wifi or not? For some reason one of my friends told me you did. I wasn't really too sure though considering you're out in the middle of the ocean and all. I think that'd be kinda hard to do. Though, he did say they got it SOMETIMES
Its not called WiFi as it is for us but in todays navy there is a form of it just not sure of the name. Not all sailors will have access to it either so that it why alot of people will tell you that the navy doesnt have it
stranger still is that during the time when I was reading up on that New Yorker turned rich man on safari guy I was also checking out three mostly picture geography type books
one was on the nation of Israel (there was cute Israeli girl in it) the other Saudi Arabia (why ask why) and the last one Egypt
funny that TR would take me to Israel, Egypt and Very close to Saudi Arabia.
funny thing was that as a Kid I remember voluntarily reading a couple of made for children biographies on Theodore Roosevelt.
I liked him when I was an ignorant little 10 yr old but understand him the be the guy who got the ball rolling for evil folks like Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D Roosevelt and so on now the imperialist world government pursuit and mess we have today needless to say that I replaced TR for Andrew Jackson as favorite President, matter of fact TR doesn't make my list at all.
and piece of SS numbered meat and looked beyond the ASVAB score and physical health, I might have been blessed and turned away from enlistment, hindsight would have made me glad to hoe weeds out of a cotton field in the mornings and self study in a library in the late afternoons, and I would have pursued that pretty girl who once offered me a ride home from the library, I was ashamed of my poverty and pedestrian hood what a dope I was
and I didn't steal before then and haven't stolen afterwords nor will I unless I'm stealing from the enemy. I guess I was subconciously trying to compensate for the lost teen years of parties and chics that I missed out on at HOME.
to keep as a souvenir. I stole my float coat , some metal squadron door signs most got bent up from the the adhesive (lightweight vandalism it was), battle lantern and other dumb things like that but hindsight now says that a stolen Restriction badge would have been a HIGHLY symbolic keepable
I visit these youtube carrier videos for the same reason an old serial marked Jewish guy visits AHshitz sp? or a concentration camp made museum. We wonder the same thing "how could we have let them put us here without a fight?"
I remember watching the new year and decade come in while standing on the bow of the flight deck overlooking the base Nofook Va while on restriction, it had been my second visit to Captain's Mast (second time is alot less nerve wracking) it was miserable time a bad year but my heart was thumpin and spirits
hopeful thanks to some letters from an air force chic down in Charleston. of course that turned out to be a waste of gas but it did make the new year and decade interestin for a bit.
Nice to see my old ship. Walking through hanger bay 3 brings back old memories. There was also all the yellow gear and storage there, always tons of stuff, while underway. Nice to see the video.
Dude, while in port get an apartment off base, it sucks being in Norfolk and living on the ship.
V-4 div. Grapes of wrath.. Actually we were the laziest ones onboard unless fuel was spilled. PURPLE SHIRTS!!!
