why is she speeking german? im a native german speaker and i was confused why she used my language xD are the britans thinking that all germans are nerds???
@myzinsky Don't you get the fact that this is a scene that SOMETHING must've been leading up to? Watch the show and make a valid comment. One German person that says she is a nerd on a TV show does NOT suggest that the entirety of Great Britain think that every German is a nerd.
@CloudedPeach But he didn't claim that Britains think that, he was just asking if that was a common rumor or prejudice. I don't think he intended to call you a prejudiced person.
I was wondering too why she's speaking German at that point and don't see the connection to Kennedy, just because the sentence includes "Ich bin ein...". The situation is completely different, so how does this fit in?
@Jdeadevil Jen had just understood why the lady wanted to hire her... she thought about it and realised she had become a nerd, hence 'ich bin ein nerd'
Yes, she realizes at this moment hanging out with the guys has made her a nerd. She has this epiphany when she mused about the fact she liked "Guided by Voices" (a band) and normal people had never heard of them. You might notice they're in the suggestions for this clip :) .
@Oddesign its taken from a famous quote of kennedy, 'ich bin ein berliner', just like sktronic said. from wiki: Kennedy should have said "Ich bin Berliner" to mean "I am a person from Berlin." By adding the indefinite article ein, his statement implied he was a non-human Berliner, thus "I am a jelly doughnut".
No sorry, thats incorrect. Im a german native speaker and besides his funny accent Kennedy used correct grammar.
"Ich bin ein Berliner" is just funny in some regions outside Berlin where "Pfannkuchen" are called "Berliner". But for a Berlin inhabitant Kennedy just said that he "is" one of them and that is exactly what he wanted to say.
@Weltenverzehrer i watched the Kennedy speech again and realized that my former notice isn`t absolutly correct. Problem is Kennedy used the word "ein" in his sentence. As a german you would normaly say "Ich bin Berliner" or "Ich bin Frankfurter" or whatever city you come from. The little word "ein" shifts the meaning a little bit towards the "Berliner Pfannkuchen" (a jelly filled kind of donut) which is called "Berliner" outside of Berlin.

What Kennedy said is far away from beeing a typo.

The wiki article is a bit contradictory, it goes on to explain that it's not actually a typo.
crazy wiki.
