  • Love it-saw it written somewhere else that kids today are missing out so much musically-couldn't agree more. This is hip hop not the disposable, cheap, and quick chicken shop pop masquerading as hip hop that clogs up today's charts and record stores.

  • FOLLOW ME IF YOU HAVE THIS SHIT IN 2011 DECEMBER AND YOU ARE LIVING IT

  • 1 of the GOATS!Love this track!

  • instrumental please

  • I'm lovin hip-hop cos it help brothers escape

Let's celebrate our music people before it's too late...

  • One of the best LL songs ever, and like mentioned above, this has 90's written all over it.

  • @xsalvioutlawx

    So true.

  • came up off this cd..i was 10 years old bumpin the hell outta this

  • The future of the funk MR SMITH aka THE G.O.A.T.!!!

  • @MoxicoMC Chill...

  • LL's best

  • It's amazin how much the realist of MCs pay homage to the very essence of the old school... Nas did it with "We Will Survive", "My Will", and "Blunt Ashes", Pac did it with "Representin 93" and "Old School", Killah Priest with "How Many", Cormega (Mega Montana) with "American Beauty" and "The Legacy", Common with "I Used To Love Her", Mos Def with the same title as this treasure... "Hip-Hop", and Rakim with "New York To Cali", in which he takes LL's route by samplin The SOS Band. I Love Hip-Hop.

  • LL is one of the best to ever do it, can't wait for a new album.

  • Sick ass song

  • WWWWOOOOWWWW!!!! I used to love this joint. I can't count how many times I played this song. I appreciate hearing this again. I haven't stopped playing it since I found it. It brought me back homie good lookin'.

  • 1. ll cool j

    2. 2pac

    3. rakim

    4. big l

    5. big pun

  • @msPJ3V38 shit list bro kim 1, pac 2, puns dope, big l and ll dont belong anywhere on the list

  • Even though this was not released as an single it did get quite a lot of airplay.

  • Classic! Love it, LL is the GOAT!

  • Good stuff, the last year before hip hop's final classic year following the deaths of Pac and Biggie, which paved way for whack pop music thanks to that cocksucker P Diddy capitalizing on BIG's name.

Can't wait for hip hop to come back into control!

  • @fleshnbone187 yeh i noticd that after 1995 or 96, rap degenerated in quality thabks to guys like p. diddy.

  • @fleshnbone187 Yep, late '96 marked the end of true hip hop...

  • @fleshnbone187 that will most likely never happen again people back then made good hip hop because they grew up poor and around crime and violence that influenced them to write their thoughts and feelings to paper. We live in a better world now so ppl just rap about money cars hoes etc. Plus ppl dont buy cds no more everybody can just get it off of youtube or another site so hip hop is basically dead

  • @juniorDUHH Well, you might as well say music on a whole is dead then. Still, there's so much good hip-hop in the past that it's gonna last a lifetime for me at least.

  • I got a globe in the world, in the mail today, lol LL fuckin up

  • Sounds like he was tired.... :)

  • Samples SOS band's - "Tell me if you still care"

  • the thing that makes this song even special is the was over 10 years ago and most of these artits r stil doing thier thang but i cant see someone making a tune like this in 10 yrs time talking baout soulja boy and lil wayne and all these rappers, wel aprt from the game and 50 cent , TS and kayne west most of the rappers post this song r rubbish

  • When you see smooth younger cats doin' they thing you should reminise of me.

  • "SMOOTH ERA" beginings.Damn I miss this smooth period in time.

  • The essence of 90's is captured in this song. It's amazing.

  • Can some one please tell me if the 2pac had beef with LL because of this track?

  • naw i think it was because pac thought that LL was dissin him in "I Shot Ya" which that one can be interpreted in many ways, some ppl think in i shot ya he was dissin biggie, but this one is more like a shot out track, real smooth beat btw Trackmasters!

  • ll cool j was dissin him in i shot ya. but tupac took the first shot in the song "my lil homies"

  • how does he dis him in lil homies?

  • He didn't. In LL's book, I Make My Own Rules, there's a part in the book where he and 2Pac met at the Soul Train Awards and LL took the mic from him. 'Pac complained about not getting enough love from his peers, then LL reminded him that he threw him a shout out on "Hip Hop" from his Mr. Smith album.

  • hE SHITTED ON THIS TRACK KEEP DOINN IT L U ARE HIP HOP

  • I got a vintage underground track of ll cool.. its done in the basement and hasnt been released

  • Fat shit.. pure dope !

But please.. don't forget the original production work : SOS Band "Tell Me If You Still Care"... smashing tune.

Hip-Hop owes everything to Funk music... and as LL Cool J said : "I'm on mission to rejuvenate the funk"

    Funk will never die..

  • This to me was LL's best. His flow was on point. What the hell happened to rap???This is my shit I grew up to. Check out Finess-I Know here on you tube. It's my version of hiphop and life in these days!!!

  • beat taken from rakim-new york to cali, amazing song

  • Rakim and Cool J Used Only The Same Sample.

  • takes me back! awesome! Can hear every word

  • I luv dis tune. Still awesome. Da prod iz dope.

  • Another dope trackmasters production.

  • no, no, no he was hip hop... then turned into pop..music

  • acutally naah sorry for the mistake. he was talkin bout mobb deep and those east coast and west coast shit goin with pac and shit.

  • if only "mr. smith" could come out with something of this quality today. his lately shit sucks...

  • this is some good crap james

  • Hot track.. Good Job.. HIP HOP Forever Kid! Classof 1998..

  • if your into the beat is stemmed from the track by SOS band called Tell me if you still care...Classic

  • i knew i heard it. sos band have sampled loads, ppl dont know.

  • hahaha, yeah its true cuz sos is a sick funk band with good beats.

  • i had a good time with this f...ing cd.

    cool!

  • This album got bad reviews... why ?

  • Cause they hate on LL cause he is the man and he is hip hop. He created all this bling and dranks and hoes on the nuts and he too dam versatile for these cats. LL made def jam

  • bad ass song!!!

  • this was his hottest album to me

  • How come LL has never collaborated with Nas? that shit would be ill, the illest out of queens

  • damn you right!!! that shit would go hard!!! I ain't NEVER thought about that! damn...

  • FIRE!!!

  • hip hop hip hop ^_^

  • REAL HIP HOP!!! This shit bring back memories of what i was doin' at this time in "95"!!!!

  • LL was never afraid to step out and push Hip Hop with a R and B flavor which allowed him to see such a long career.

  • This Is One Of The Forgotten Bangers That LL Did That Really Was Some Of His Best Shit. Man, 1995, What A Great Year For Hip-Hop For Real. I Miss Those Days *Sighs*

  • Now this song was REAL Hip Hop.

  • authentic shit!

  • LL COOL J is the man!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ITS DA REAL HIP HOP

  • Make a brother feel good, make a brother feel energised. sums up hip hop for me, my mistress my wife

  • rakim also uses this sample in the song ny 2 cali

  • This song is hot. This is one of those albums that did well mainstream but represents what hip hop is all about. Once he retires he finally get the recognition he deserves.

  • this song is mad hot. never got the props it deserved. here is the thing people were trying to say LL was dissing Tpac when he mentions him in the song. I never heard of him and tupac having beef, but people thought he was going at him ion this album with 4,3,2,1.

  • I've heard about the beef, and LL even discusses it(and their last encounter at an awards show he was hosting) in "I Make My Own Rules." Really, I think that he was giving a heavy nod to 2Pac's renown and increasing status. He seems to address the gaul and balls that it took for Mobb Deep to go at Pac, who was newly established at Death Row, and in a new level of success. Plus, as incendiary as a lot of his diss records were up to his death, the fact that Mobb Deep "flipped" on him was unique

  • no he dissed him in I shot ya

  • Who did he dis ?

  • he was dissing tupac

  • aweeeeeeeeeesome

  • now this is real rap

  • Props, that's a nice song.

  • I luv this Jam!!! :) Keepin it real....
