  • amish are good ppl, just cuz some nutjob grew up in a bad environment she is feeling like the savior of the amish ppl (girls in particular) by leaving and writing a book how miserable it was. i wanted i wanted i wanted, omfg. leave it too a couple girls to want want want. can't go on without nail polish and makeup. sounds like someone was a lil too spoiled as an amish girl. just irritating cuz it seems she wants to point the problems are being amish, as if it doesn't happen outside amish commun

  • Also though, you should know that amish differ from community to community. I know a lot of Amish do not influnce shunning at all. And some do not even hit children. I know I am blessed to be in a good anabaptist church. It is strict but, safer than the community you were in of Amish. A lot of Amish who leave come to my church. They come to the mennonite church. Great video:)

  • wow..very interesting. thanx. would love to meet you all.

  • the daughter describes remembering her father hitting her with a belt....I thought that the Amish didn't use belts but use suspenders instead?

  • Amish children can leave if they want to. Research Rumspringa. Her father used a belt? When I grew up we didn't need a police officer in our schools, the teacher would bust your butt if you misbehaved.

  • Thank you for your kind words!

  • I think the Amish are very "human", look how strong these women are, and how they talk in love and without fear... I think we can learn a lot from these people!

  • I sense some BS here

  • even tho we went to a amish school we rode a public school bus???????? LOL not possible.

  • holy shit her husband hit her ,, it doesnt mean all amish r bad people. by wat ive seen and i hear there a great bunch of people who give a shit about there neighbour, and will help when ever they can.. u wont get my neighbour helping me

  • I grew up Amish. I had an uncle named John Jacob Jingleheimer-Schmidt. His name is my name too.

  • HAIR!

  • using a belt is abusive? When I was little my dad used it on me and all of my siblings and we turned out fine. Abuse is when you beat on your kids for spilling something or because you had a bad day or your just mentally ill. If a kid backtalks you you have a right to assert yourself as a parent and discipline them. Part of the reason you have little kids running around and acting up is because of this NEW AGE BS that causes parents to believe they have to be their children's friend!

  • Yes, they do have guns. I learned how to target shot at a young age.

  • @AmishGirl12 I thought Amish were never allowed to use any form of violence because they are pacifists

  • @AmishGirl12 are you part of the amish sects that arent as conservative? is that why your on the internet?

  • @CaligirlSofia Um..Did you even watch the video? She is NO LONGER AMISH - that's the point of the video and book......

  • @friendsfamilyaccount oh i sent the comment to the wrong person

  • Are Amish people allowed to have guns for defensive purposes?

  • I don't know WHY people don't believe in "LIVE & LET LIVE"??

THESE PEOPLE ARE LIVING THIS WAY 4 HUNDRED OF YEARS and are happy

why we don';t leave them alone ??? is somebody wants their farm lands ?

because why they find former member to help these kids to leave & abonden

farming and work something else they'll have more kids to leave and by a few

years the parent wouldn't have someone left to farm the land & it'll be the end of it .

  • @massimo38 How old are you child?

  • So sad that you didn't realize how fortunate you were to be born Amish. You were in a loving, protected enviroment. You were born to it because it was God's will. I so wish I could have been born Amish.

  • I am going to an old order mennonite reunion on Sunday....my husband's family he left them years ago...I usually don't go to the reunions but I am tommorow...

  • 20 dollars is more than I get for allowance

  • @ TheyDidThis my first instinct was Illuminati .. I live in the Amish world... these women dont resemble or have a hint of their genetics or accents... this vid is a propaganda to make it seem like our consuming world and slavery to th NWO is so much better then the Amish.. I agree with you on the womans lib too

  • Spanking is not abuse in and of itself. The reason the English society has lost its' virtues, is that it has lost its' collective ability to discipline their children. My closest freinds are amish. I am emglish. The world needs more folks like the amish.

  • @The5thGen I left not just because physical abuse, but because the Ordung board are judge and jury for our community, if they don't step in, nothing happens. Law enforcement looks the other way. Untreated mental diseases are common and basic education is viewed as a luxury, Plain ppl. instruct to only 8th grade. The average person has a hard time to read & understand even theHoly Bible as it is in a different German than Plautdeuts. IMO Anabaptist community needs some intense self examination.

  • Very elegant womans the 3 of them, but whats with the hair?

  • please go back and be Amish

  • Money is the root to all evil. Remember that. It doesn't matter how much money you have, it won't bring you happiness, just trouble

  • The modern world is full of temptation. You're only inviting the devil to taunt you. When the truth comes out, they will regret it.

  • they don't realise how this culture made them richer than lots of people . this girl is able to get married, so she is not so destroyed . lots of people can't even hope have a husband and a child because their childhood is a lot more damaged .

  • I understand the thought process you have. However, the grass is not always greener on the otheside of the fence. I have alot of respect for the Amish in many aspects but don't agree with the way the Bishops run the church. Short of that, You will never find the moral support and community out here in Babylon that you had before. I think that the shuning and some of the rules need tweaked a bit. but all in all. The Amish do live closer to the way YaHuWaH wanted us to the the rest of the world

  • i have shown my four kids this video.you both are selfish and have turned your back on good.showing your bra must made you feel good?you both are disgusting!God bye and good riddins!you wont be missed and this American family shuns you all as well!

  • loser sluts. The truth is you are shame to the human race.Sex is your drug admit it. your new civilization is dieing then you will reap what evil you have sown!Shame on you both!

  • @TheBarnacleBob1 why are you so hateful towards them?

  • @ryanjames731 old enough to have seen this thousands of time.Just sick of losers like this.Shame on them.

  • @TheBarnacleBob1 Shame on you for being judgmental and encouraging that in your children. You have no clue what they went through and they have every right to live their lives the way they choose. You're a looser.

  • It's about perspective. Often, our personal experiences taint the reality of a culture as a whole. It can be said about all cultures. I understand, that many are tired of the city hustle&suffocation; and yearn for a life like the Amish. One persons hell on earth can be anothers paradise.

Still, I find the Malls, make-up, and fashion difficult to accept as freedom&rural farm life to be imprisoning. The animals, esp. the birds; got it right with seasonal-migration.

    Thanks 4 sharing.

    peace

  • I was never Amish, but I did grow up around it. I loved the way of life meaning- the farms, the gardens, the aspect of community, etc.

BUT, I never liked the shunning of those who wanted to leave or didn't agree. I thought that was sad. I think it would be wonderful if it was a choice, and if each family wanted to go without modern conveniences and to live that way, then they could. If their family members didn't, then they would still fellowship together and love one another.

  • I am so impressed with the profound truth that you speak. Thank you!

    Lucinda Streiker-Schmidt

  • 'Shunning' and "banishment" has been used for centuries for the Faithful that do not "conform". Religious leaders do not like people that want to think outside the box. Even the new, modern, cult of scientology practices it. They call it Disconnection and their founder justified it by saying " It's not anything other religions don't do". Let's face it - when it come to religion, most people are blind and willing sheep.

  • lol $20 a week how hard....my dad lived a normal life and did a days work for 50 cents....she had it hard

  • @iRoXsOxAlOt right?? i don't get allowance at all and i am certainly not amish xPP

  • All cultures have people who abuse othes within it especially but this should not paint the picture of all within that culture. I am not sure what group of the Old Order Amish these women were a part of since there are different groups within the group. I have studied the Amish in the Midwest and in PA but not to the extent I would like to. I fully realize that problems do exist in the culture but all cultures have problems. May God forgive all who err and go against God's plan .

  • When women wear their shirt below one shoulder like that, it means they are DTF.

  • @Koolkeithmathew

Sorry my ignorance what does DTF stand for??

  • theres no such thing of amish. i see amish people have technology, eat, lights, cell phones, stoves, microwave, blenders, cameras etc....amish people dont exist.

  • The women's lib movement was funded by the Rockefeller's in order to get 50% more taxes and use the vanity of women to promote a need for sht you just dont need. Now we have 12 year olds getting pregnant and running around in thongs. These stupid boys now dress like clowns because some guy on tv gets ass by acting like a moron. Our country has turned to shit.

  • @TheyDidThis this shit happen everywhere, not only in the USA. This is why the entire world is going straight to hell and people are losing it.

  • Want to know how to take over a society the fastest. Let girls do what ever they want and poke at their vanity

  • I think the Amish are, on the whole, admirable people. They just want to be left alone to live their own lives. They aren't knocking on your door trying to shove their beliefs down your throat; they aren't on TV bawling and prostituting their "faith" for money; they aren't running around burning crosses. An abusive man is a horse's ass, no matter what culture he embraces. Don't the Amish have ways of handling this within their community? I doubt they condone violence of any sort.

  • I think that many people are not given the "real" Amish. They are a wonderful, loving people. I have only WONDERFUL thing sto say about my amish family. I never witnessed abuse, heard harsh language, etc. We had devotions EVERY morning and evening. I was never told my worth was in my amish cloths, I was taught you need to be SAVED by Christ, not my the Amish.

Also, not everyone knows that you are not baptized until you are old enough to make up your mind.

  • @mossplates

I would like to be your penpal, I agree with what you have to say.

  • I don't doubt that abusive men are not good people to let discipline a child, but I thank god for the many times that my mother 'used a belt' on me.

  • @nighttigress1 I agree 100%, I agree with these women that abuse such as her husband handed out, is totally insane, but then the only (abuse) the daughter can remember, is her father having used a belt on her, and I dont agree that the daughter was spared from a horrible life that she might have had, the world out here is not quite as loving as you'd have it to be honey, neither are the family values, I ought to know, I grew up in a Holdeman Mennonite church.

  • You speak some very wise words, my friend!

  • 4 one quitter ther r 100 amish woman who hold for righcsness.

    thank G-d.

    shalom

  • This is G-d ppl, the ones who hold amerika up, for them this G-d 4saking contry still up.

    what make amish diferents is

    JESUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

    THE KING OF THE JEWS.

  • I don't like the shunning that some religions encourage. It seems so un-Godly and judgmental.

The kids are being taught to be too easily led. Kids need desperately to be taught to question and how to think.

  • @LindaDooWop you speak very wise words, my friend!

  • @LindaDooWop Exactly, in my opinion the Amish culture is quite sick in many ways. Denying children proper education should be a crime.

  • My boyfriend is amish...and he is going to leave. I'm a little nervous for him because I know its gonna be really hard.

  • Thank you so much for your kind words!

  • i must commend the courage of these beautiful women. it's no small task to break the psychological chains of an oppressive belief system. may you all be greatly blessed...

  • Both Amish and Secular can be involved in Evil

  • Wow, I'm intrigued, seriously. Though you felt conformed, now you exploit and are exploited. Seems a weird dynamic of sorts.

Honestly I think you were just a victim of an abusive relationship.

Now, look at your hair - Is that God's natural color?

Look at your clothes, was it made from children in sweat shops?

Look at your food, all bought from farmers funded with govt subsidies....

You are now in competition for looks and social class...

I'm seriously baffled. I hope you'll message me.

  • @awarepatriot 2 tumbs up.

  • Everybody has problems, even the anabaptists, Eastern Orthodox, Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Hindus. Abuse is in every vein in every culture.

But I'm telling you women, you have NO idea what you had. I grew up the opposite of Amish - Very Technical, and we are joining with some conservative Mennonites. Watch any of my videos to find out why, especially the one on make up. It's a dupe. At least it'll show you the opposite perspective.

  • THE INTERVIEWER IS SOOOO FAKE IN HER INFLECTION OF VOICE AND EVERY QUESTIONS SOUND SOOO PLANNED.

  • im an amish disident, i live in cancun, and i think all people can choose its own life

  • Look at that, look at that, bearing her naked shoulder as a provacative seductress. Wearing pants? Look at their hair, very unnatural color, short, and sexy waivy. They look like modern women of the evening. Amish women do not need to be sexually liberated.

  • "I wanted to wear make-up". "I wanted to wear my hair the way other girls were". Basically...."I wanted to reject good Christian up-bringing and act like a whore just like other girls.

  • @badkarma009

Whores are having sex with men for money, these women are looking very decent and gentle to me. And yes, they reject how they are brought up. You don't have to follow a religion to be gentle and decent. Vice versa, being religious doesn't mean that you are gentle and decent. To me it seems that you are an example for that by using the word "whore" without any reason since these women are not having sex for money at all.

  • 2:59 - Whoo! Apparently leaving the Amish lifestyle causes one's hair to go all poofy.

  • can anyone join the amish

i want to join im not german though

    im italian american

  • I vaguely remember my Dad whoopin my ass with a belt too. Wait, no, I vividly remember that and I'm glad that he did.

  • @dickjohnson474747 My dad whooped my ass too. Bad with a belt. Every time I think of screwing up in my adult life, I feel my arse tingling.

  • skanks

  • Dykes! Walmart sucks!

  • squelch squelch squelch squelch

  • could not squelch the whore in you

  • Hey, I cant even get the men to wave as I pass them on the road. I would love to date an Amish woman but cant get them to acknowledge that I exist.

  • hey I think she should have my baby

  • @zzacksback , I got such a chuckle out of your comment. Love your humor!

  • @zzacksback , I got such a chuckle out of your comment. Love your humor!

  • @zzacksback , I got such a chuckle out of your comment. Love your humor!

  • @zzacksback , I got such a chuckle out of your comment,love your humor!

  • I never ha 20 dolars a week- I wish I was Amish! -No seriously, if the husband was abusive, kick him to the nuts, that is right of all women!

  • 2O dolars a week??!! I wis to be Amish!!!

  • Try growing up mexican, you get beat with a sandle and belt lol.....but i love my parents to death. Its actually very common in my culture, but i dont see me ever doing that to my baby girl

  • @megarude911 lol

  • they all have big hair now... I wonder if thats an act of rebellion?

  • I don't know how but I want to help the Amish girls at the farmers market if they want to leave or just have a contact on the outside.

  • Are Amish mostly german and Dutch ethnicity

  • @quest8899 i think german and swiss

  • 20 dollars a week that's what i got i wasn't Amish, greedy Amish lady

  • is it ok for amish people to have sex before they get married?

  • thats prob how much she got to keep from her check after 16. usually dont get to keep anything before 16

  • This is cultural slander.

  • you need to be careful with your words... i come from the amish commnity and this is NOT what it is like.... it's what you make it. doesn't matter if you're english, amish, mennonite, whatever- its about your heart. and the new orders are getting there.... maybe you were old order. praying for your heart...

  • i'd shunn you too.... ex-communication and shunning is an important part of the church.

  • i would like had some roman catholic community as amish because i'm catholic and i would like to live the experience of amish way of live

  • Amish kids get 20$ a week allowance? Back when that adult woman was a child?? Whoa. That's not a "small allowance" even today, nevermind for a family with many children and not much income. I'm not sure I'd believe anything she said after that.

  • Lucinda so what U think about God

  • Hello Princess! I deeply love God and the Messiah Jesus. He is my refuge and strength.

  • This entire thing is skewed so badly against the Amish. You didn't like it, you left. That doesn't mean, as you imply, that all of them are abused and oppressed. Not all of the ones who stay stay out of fear. It is their choice.

  • @MMalczewska wake up!! they ARE opressed!!

  • I work as an analyst and right now i'm working on a report on the characteristics of average people who make decisons on amajor scale. If needed could yoube contacted for further info.

  • As a person who has seen the horrors of oppression first hand it is nice to see people like you. Living in Northern Ireland is shocking to many, no one can believe some of things that happen there even today. i have dedicated my life to the freedom and Unity of the Irish people, I just hope many others can display the same amount of courage you did, lessons can be learned from you.

It's people like you that restore some of my faith in humanity..

  • Bravo for you! Thank you so much for your kind words and support.

    Lucinda

  • Good for you! thank you, for we all are not house servants..........in my culture we say, We are not house Negro's.........We do not obey what is oppressive.

  • Thank you for your kind words and support!

    Fond regards,

    Lucinda

  • The Amish are the largest CULT in the world.

They want their children uneducated, so they can't leave.

English children must go to school till they are 18, by law. Amish.....13 , and a girl with an 8th grade education can teach them.

Amish owned business often have lower prices for fellow Amish......unfair.

    Education is not evil.

  • Thank you for your support. I am so interested in hearing the story of your association with this culture. Could you elaborate?

    Thx!

  • Poo mouth. You didn't like it, so you left.

    Superficial, biased trash talk.

  • This is so not like how the Amish is seen

  • i think you are making a bad name for amish,, Not all Amish people are like that,

all you talk about is the bad, you suck

  • It's wrong that the husband treated the wife like that!!!!!!!! And it contrary to what it says in the Bible!!!!!!!!! You don't treat your spouse that way!!!!!!!

  • They all look like they've been electrocuted whilst being dragged backwards through a hedge! ;)

Why was the Amish girl excommunicated? Too mennonite haha

  • they do not look amish:/

  • These women should have been interviewed by legendary anchorman Ron Burgundy.

  • this HAIR is insane!

  • quite something

  • thats not how it is around here, when your amish you definatly gotta do what your told, but this video portrays amish as cruel monsters!

  • well, I think, what they say is partly true, every culture has its perks. I just think it's wrong that they only portray the negative in this video, because Amish are great people.

  • @bananacupcake93 they only portray the truth not what eveyone

    wants to hear

  • this sounds very similar "in ways" to how the mormon women are treated.

  • Thank you for your input.

  • God bless and keep you. To those who writing mean spirited things you have not walked in these ladies shoes. Peace

  • Thank you, dear friend. Peace be with you also.

  • the interviewer stinks....but its well known that the Amish are

    misogynists .......

  • Question: Is science allowed in Amish communities ... if so .. how curious of nature a person is allowed to be ?. I'm thinking about the poor fellow that like to see trough a telescope , or a microscope or had a great idea for an invention ; can she/he calm their thirst for knowledge ?

  • Good video!

    (I used to be Amish)

  • Thank you!! I would so love to meet you.

  • Where are you from? Maybe it can be arranged?

  • Thank you so much, Dooflotchie, for your support and kind words.

    Lucinda

  • Hearing stories like this make me glad I have always rejected religion. It destroys more people than any other thing in the world. I'm glad to see anyone escape the control and abuse, especially women.

  • The questions seem leading and the answers sound scripted. hummm.

  • Yet one more example of why religion is poison. How sad.

  • The fact that she wrote this book doesnt mean someone else cant write theirs! She did not take any opportunity from anyone. EVEN "crack babies, Palestinians, Military families" or any of the many other ethnic, religious, or pigeonholed and labeled groups that were previously mentioned.

Of course abuse happens. To all kinds of people, throughout time. Some of them had nice families, some not. That is irrelevant to the authors right and choice, to write her book, and the validity of her story.

  • Dear Ntyaro,

Thank you!!!!! I could not have said it better myself.....you are truly an insightful person, obviously well educated.

    Lucinda Streiker-Schmidt

Author,"A Separate God, Journal of an Amish Girl"

  • I believe each individual makes choices which direct their life. These choices can often be very hard and mean separation from loved ones and pain, no matter who you are, what relgion, what your childhood was like, what your in utero experience was like, etc. The story of these ladies is just their story, and I found it interesting and inspiring.

We get to make the choice to write comments here, and anyone can make the choice to tell their story if they want to.

  • The women in the video are thoughtful, loving, kind people, who seem to understand the complexities of Amish life; the fact that there exists within it (as well as everywhere else) good and bad elements. They both made very difficult decisions to leave and not only is their story interesting to non-Amish, but Im sure it could definitely help other Amish women as well as any one who is in a situation where they feel they are stuck or afraid to leave.

  • I didn't mean to sound so rude in my previous message, but YouTube limits comment length. I just wonder if you're aware that abuse, control and domination you speak of is common in families of every race, religion, culture, nation, and time? I've heard this story over and over again from Jewish families, Catholic families, Muslim families, Atheist families, Conservative families, Liberal families, and Military families, to name just a few.

  • There's a lot of egocentrism in this video.

If you don't like being Amish, then leave the Amish. Then leave the Amish alone. If it's your dream for your own children to be raised by a television set and a suburban shopping mall, then that's your decision. But you were blessed to have been raised by something that resembles a real family, if not a real community. Please leave the books to authors who survived being born as crack babies, or Palestinians. THEY have something to complain about.

  • I am fascinated by you. Your pattern of writing indicates that you are well educated. Which Amish community do you live in? The fact that you are navigating through You-tube tells me you belong to a quite progressive sect. I'm impressed.

  • Relegated to hell? Are you serious? That statement is just simply not at all true. It is a complete and total lie. I don't know what extremist sect you were a part of, but it definitely was not mainstream Amish.

  • I completely agree....not all sects are alike

We were raised in an extremely orthodox sect. The Amish in N. In where I now live are totally different and I have many Amish friends here. They are open, loving people.

  • So exactly what sect were you a part of, and why do you not differentiate between various sects, but just generally use the term "Amish"? The life you describe does not describe what the Amish culture I was brought up in (and am still a part of) embodies at all.

  • three beautiful ex amish ladies. im glad your happy!

  • how do ex-amish look?

  • you look like ex amish

  • hat sin see thruos in de welt!

  • I don't understand.....is that swiss german?

  • Thanks for sharing your inspiring story and speaking out on such an important topic.

  • Thank you for your kind words.

  • its dutch. i am ex amish my self

  • how interesting .....tell me about yourself.

  • Holy hottie amish girls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow I'm just blown away thank you for hte informative interview
