  • 2 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GReat video thank for upload...Gretting sfrom Chile...Persolnality i wait the same for The X-files...

  • Oh, I would just LOVE to see Best of both worlds remastered and in HD ! :)

  • The Enterprise looks horrible, its looks very cartoony even though its been improved for HD

  • 11 more days until our first taste!!!!

  • Is that people I see walking around the bridge around 0:56.... Oh wow this is going to be awesome

  • @camwow13 umm.. thats not the bridge its the conference room behind the bridge :)

  • @camwow13 hehe my husband has the blue prints XD

  • @camwow13 That's the observation lounge and you could always see someone walking in the windows even back when it originally aired. The Tech Manual actually specifies that it's supposed to be Picard.

  • Hm. Watch 9QETWFk4MPo It seems like there IS more information in the negatives, however there could be crap standing there. And you would have to crop away something in any case, unless they just show as much as possible (not being 16:9 nor 4:3).

  • Does anyone know if it will be in widescreen (the old DVD's are in full, which sucks)?

  • @StellaGrandePictures They could have easily made them in widescreen, but, they say it was men't to be in 4:3 and so they are going to keep them in 4:3. which yes, sucks a lot.

So now i ether have to stretch them, or watch it with there heads cut off. :/

    Stupid CBS

  • @iJamieMoore Bad move CBS. I was planning on buying all the seasons, but if there not widescreen, I'll just hold on to the DVD's.

  • @StellaGrandePictures This is also my thinking. They even have all the footage in 35mm film. so they do have it all in widescreen. They easily could release a widescreen version too. (i really hope they do!)

The reason they give for cropping it again to 4:3 is: "4:3 is the way the show was originally intended to be watched"-CBS. :/

  • @iJamieMoore So dumb. If we're supposed to watch it the way it was intended, then why release it on blu ray? It was always intended to be watched 4:3, SD, on a tube television, right? Totally illogical. I was really looking foward to this in hi def and 16:9.

  • @StellaGrandePictures Yea me too. Well at least the 1080p and the 7.1 (1500kbps!) audio will be really awesome.

However! i did read somewhere that if the demand is there, they might release a widescreen version at a later date.

For Treks Sake! i hope they do!

  • @StellaGrandePictures Im afraid we must embrace the black bars.. :/ lol

And my rant here has been for nothing, as i have been informed that they actually shot it on 35mm film at "1.375:1"! not "1.78:1". So basically, 4:3 is all they have.

Which is a real shame. but just one of those things i guess.

So i guess i'll be buying them after-all.

    And CBS is forgiven. lol

  • @iJamieMoore It's not that easy to do. When they mean it was meant for 4:3 they mean it was framed such that boom mics and equipment would be readily seen outside the 4:3 box.

  • @iJamieMoore And what do you expect them to do? Let them cut off the heads? I want to watch it the way it was composed.

  • @kadvid No, Defiantly not. But i was under the impression that they had filmed the show in 35mm film in widescreen"1.78 : 1" ratio.

However, after much searching, i have found out that they did indeed film it at a "1.375:1" ratio instead. So that is only a tiny bit wider then 4:3. (1.33:1)

So a guess TNG will just always be 4:3.

i just did some more research, and found out that (sadly) it indeed was shot on 35mm film at a ratio of "1.375:1" not -IMDB

  • @iJamieMoore I hope they manage to release it 1.375:1 then. At least it is a bit wider and should look less awkward. Unless it really wasn't composed for that.

There's a shot from the final ENT episode that uses a scene from TNG, and that was in 16:9. It had quite a bit more info at the sides, but they still had to crop heads. There's a comparison somewhere here on YouTube.

  • @kadvid Ken Ross, Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Entertainment issued a statement saying, "Fans have been clamoring for a high-definition release of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Transferring the series to high-definition presented difficult technical challenges, but our team has come up with a process to create true 1080p HD masters with true HD visual effects. We can't wait to show fans how pristine the series looks and sounds with our upcoming Blu-ray releases."

  • @JustinHEMI05 Thay can't wait to show it? I can't wait to watch it!!! And they are releasing it on my birthday, thank you for this nice present, CBS ;)

  • Encounter At Farpoint is RUBBISH. Who told them that was a fan favourite?

  • they should of shown a free preview of the classic startrek next gen intro in HD it would of been allsome im going to buy this its cheap 15.86 on walmart com preorder even tho theres not that many episodes it would still be cool see it on blue ray in buying all seasons when they fully come out on blue ray THUMBS UP if u aggree ST 4 LIF

  • Não vejo a hora deste lançamento chegar aqui no brasil?

  • have the show on DVD already.

  • They better not edit out the Easter eggs.

  • Not that I'm ungrateful, but dear CBS, also give us DS9 and Voy in that kind of quality. Just imagine all the awesome DS9-Space Battles, not to mention Voyagers glorious effects (imagine a 1080p Bluray Spezies 8472 ... )

  • @Arthuris2390

They could do it, but it would be difficult also, we'll see.

  • @Arthuris2390

I think the CG-effects in Voyager would look a lot more CG than they already do. Species 8472 was nicely done and would look great in 1080p, but most of the ship CG's would look a lot weaker and cartoonish. Maybe they have the means to enhance the CG-effects somehow to look more real, even in the Blu-Ray version.

I think the studio model scenes are the best material for Blu-Ray. Converted to 1080p, they look like very good CG-shots and they can also add some more details later.

  • @StarTrekMarco Yea, the CG model was very quickly made, the errors would stand out even more... most of the hull patterns on the CG model were texture materials...

  • @CJCA915 That's right. I once enhanced the quality of some Voyager episodes via a computer program and you could really see those texture issues. It looked almost like the newer mod-version of the Intrepid class in Star Trek Bridge Commander (PC game). I guess they (Paramount) didn't care for the HD-future, like J.Michael Straczynski did with Babylon 5. It was a thing of budget too, of course, like always.

  • @StarTrekMarco Both Babylon 5 and Star Trek Voyager/DS9 used the same company (Foundation Imaging). As far as I know their artists only rendered the image to NTSC-III quality (704x480)

    .

Remember they only had ~25 megahertz 68040 Commodore Amigas, and later ~100 megahertz 80486 Intel PCs. Slow. It was the intent to save the original files and re-render them to HD once technology had advanced to today's speedy computers

    .

  • @StarTrekMarco DS9 and VOY had a far greater budget than B5. I guess with B5 they thought they'd just rerender the thing with improved models in HD and call it a day... but files got lost or all messed up, the file formats aren't understood nowadays anymore etc.

  • @StarTrekMarco Only about half of Voyager was CGI. Almost all of the first 4 seasons (except an episode or two) were done with a physical model of the ship. So those first 4 seasons should look okay when upgraded to HD

    .

Similarly DS9 is almost nothing but models until season 6, and then they switched-over to CGI (using the same company that Babylon 5 had used)

    .

  • @electrictroy2010 Problem is that the model effects were shot on video and not film. Huge quality issue there that will look out of place and ugly in an HD release. Hence, they need to be redone.

  • @StarTrekMarco Have you looked at the models they used for DS9? Some look really bad, the only reason they look any good is that the show is in SD. Nevertheless I'd love to see it happen.

As for the CGI... if they still have the models and textures they could probably do it. Also for the movies and later shows some higher quality models have already been created. I guess it is feasible, but it will take a while. Maybe in 20 years...?

  • @Arthuris2390 CBS recently announced that they want to do the same thing with DS9 and Voyager, but it depends on the success of the TNG release. In other words, buy this and make it happen!!

  • Amazing news! If they're even half as good as TOS on Blu, we're in for a spectacular treat.

Hopefully, around 2013 when this series is halfway released, they'll start pumping out DS9 to get the ball rolling on the rest. Plus Babylon 5!

    I'm greedy. :(

  • thats sooo cool!!!

  • Enterprise in HD :)

  • THANK YOU for uploading! I had problems watching the vid on startrek.com.

Finally TNG remastered in HD on Blu-ray! A dream comes true! :)
