  • Pavarotti - I thought you were immortal, and yet you died as a mortal. The voice lives forever - the creme de la creme. Thank you now and forever.

  • 8 people like justin beiber.

  • I need to see this video with the original sound even if the quality is lower..Preferirei vedere il video con l'audio originale anche se meno buono di qualità.

  • when is young, and old ,,,perform always BEST !!! AMAZING !!! SUPERB !! SERIOSA MAESTRO !

  • che meraviglia. Thanks for Pavarotti

  • Milli Vanilylli.

  • Oh, and Pavarotti has the most beautiful diminish in the business...IMHO. :)

  • I love Pavarotti's voice. It blends so well with the music and the tone is so pleasing to the ears.

  • @pgfoti Did you read the description?

  • The most perfect version of this aria!!!! He does it better here than when he was older!

  • Atonement!

  • Beard = More breath support

  • He looks like Bruce Wayne in Batman the Animated Series

  • @2:16 EARGASM

  • Luciano without the beard.... amazing how young he is here.

  • he didn't hold the high C long enough & definitely wasn't powerful enough. but i like the video. if you want his greatest performance of che gellida mannina, its in his debut performance on behalf of di stefano in 1961. look to the right suggestion box and look forLuciano Pavarotti - Che Gelida Manina 1961 live...by GermanOperaSinger

  • @maseratiquattroport Pavarotti made his debut in Reggio Emilia in 1961 but he substitued the ill Di Stefano in 1963 in Covent Garden!

  • @maseratiquattroport Did Pavarotti not hold the note long enough for your personal taste or according to the music?Pavarotti's voice had squillo&the carrying POWER in the theater was as good or better than any other lyric tenor that is appropriate for this aria. Many tenors sound powerful&enjoyable on recordings. However their voices do not carry as well in the theater.BarryMorell,FlavianoLebo& even Domingo are examples of tenors that sound more powerful on recordings than they did in the theater.

  • @sugarbist

both. i understand what you mean though. yes, they were many tenors and even sopranos defaulted their powerful voice when live but, this video tells me that they were following the tenor & not accordingly to the music note. So, he did not hold it long enough for the actual. NOw, for my personal taste, he failed to provide lasting squillo & carrying power and cut off the six second high 'c' that everybody was waiting for. BAsically put, it lacked the completeness.

  • @maseratiquattroport I do agree as far as the music following the tenor,asPavarotti did not read music&the orchestra or piano accompaniment very often followedHim.We know that LP had squillo&carrying powerAs I noticed the synchronization of the video & audio are off,I would like to think that there were other technology problems here.I think we or I at least, are accustom to hearing the overblown&enhanced recordings of the last 25 years or so which are not realistic upon hearing the artists Live

  • thank you sooo much for uploading this treasure

  • Comment removed

  • @bene951 no it is not!

  • @MariaCallasLegend arggghh i thought i erased that... it became obvious about 20 seconds later that it was a different studio recording... haha oh well

  • Respectfully, I have to remind us all that his isn't a competition -- different singers have different strengths; they share common ground (unless the voice itself doesn't sound good no matter what rep. the person sings). Dramatic voices aren't 'better' than lyrics, and vice versa. Of course Del Monaco had a better sound for Di Quella Pirra - it is a dramatic role. Pavarotti was a gorgeous lyric (spinto?) He started singing bigger roles, and it was bad for his voice so he stopped.

  • Although I would NEVER prefer to listen to Del Monaco - there is a reason Pavarotti sang the definitive "Ah Mes Amis" (high lyric) and Del Monaco sang definitive "Di Quella Pira" (truly dramatic)... I guarantee if asked Pavarotti would have instantly conceded what everone who labors in opera knows - the size of Pavarotti's voice was nowhere NEAR the size of Del Monacos . But when a voice is so high and so perfectly placed it still carries to the very back of the house with awesome overtones...

  • Would anyone like to hit a high C then comment.? Wonderful! Bravo!

  • I've never seen him without a bear. Ever. Are you sure this is him?

  • @robtul12 *beard

  • PRICELESS! Thank you MariaCallasLegend for sharing. trudbol is certainly spot on about that highC at 3:38 - celestial!!!

  • Regardless the brilliant execution, this is not the version of 1964 since in there he is accompanied by piano only but the sound track has got an orchestra playing... who edited this?

  • @giuseppecalafiore I just took the video and tried to sychronize the audio recording if his 1964 almbum! The audio is really from 1964 but in studio!

  • @MariaCallasLegend Ah okay... sorry, I hadn't read the description. Anyway, it's simply perfect. Thanks for this great masterpiece!

  • he looked like fritz wunderlich when he was young!

  • I've had enough of the Pavarotti bashing....I will respond to this uh, Mr. Cafiero at once.

  • Ok, I like Jussi Björling perhaps best of them all. But I must add that I like both Björling and Luciano P.. But that's me. Yesterday I wrote the 1st bad comment about JB. I don't like his O Sole Mio. I have a new favourite, and he is Mario Lanza. He is and was not so well respected, but I like his voice so much - Leoncavallo -P.. It's all about taste. I like The Pearlfichers with A. Kraus and Mc Donald and also JB with R. Merrill. It's just to listen to what I like most. Then Caruso,Gigli,Pippo

  • Lui e Mirella Freni :magnifici 5* in Boèhme!

Thanks.

  • I would like to add a short comment. Pavarotti expected to recover from his illness and return to his singing - it was not meant to be.

When I learned of his Passing - and though I never met him - his loss affected me deeply; it took weeks and weeks before my emotions returned to something resembling normality. I have not been able to explain my reaction.

  • It took me a minute to picture Pavarotti without his beard. Yes, the same face with the same expressions.

His voice is beyond compare. What is most noteworthy is the consistency of the strength of his voice thoughout the entire range.

During a TV interview he once stated: I am very lucky, my voice has individuality.

The fact is, standing with my back against the TV and listening to The Three Tenors, I could tell Pavorotti from the first note - his voice had a very unique quality.

  • Looks a bit like Brando.

  • It is funny because he is singing very well here, but he is not a huge voice. It is a lyric and no more than that. He should have never sung the more dramatic rep. like Aida etc.

  • @MrCafiero Are you ill, or? Hope you will feel better. ???

  • @petereuropa First of all, Pavarotti sang dramatic roles even though he was a lyric. And this lead to more and more people doing the same thing. Pavarotti's voice carried, but it was not a huge voice.

  • @MrCafiero You must go to your ear/hearing doctor. If you don' hear that this is one of the best "Che Gelida Manina", then I must say to you: "Che Gelido Orrecchio". Adios amigo!

  • @petereuropa I don't recall writing that this che gelida isn't any good. Maybe *YOU* should go back to school and get your reading comprehension up to speed. He sings this very well, but it is not a big voice. Secondly, just because you think something is good doesn't make it so.

  • @MrCafiero I have read about your comments on other videos on youtube. One is 'Nilsson Salome'. I have respect for your opinion. Let it be like this. I like Pavarotti very much. You don't consider his voice so great.

After some seconds when LP start to sing, I hear that it is Pavarotti. And I like his singing so much. We all must have our own opinion, because that is one of the reasons that youtube is so nice. Keep listening! And I tomorrow 'Keep swinging!' - but that is golf=another philosophy.

  • @petereuropa I never said I do not like Pavarotti. He was great, which I stated here, but he did not have a huge voice and should have never sung the dramatic rep like Radames. He was a great singer. Nilsson was phenomenal. And her Salome was top notch. Opinions should be based on facts. Otherwise they are useless. And the fact is Pavarotti was not a huge voice, but was still a great singer.

  • @MrCafiero I'm glad to hear that you like/liked LP. We can stop here.

Just want to add that some years ago I saw a TV program about LP. And in that program L's father sang in a church. And he have/had a nice voice. Then L began to sing, and it wasan enormous difference. L's voice was so huge! I was impressed to hear the difference between them. Anyway, his father was not a singer. But it was an emotional and warm felling of love between them That's all..

  • @petereuropa Maybe you want to believe it was huge, but the fact is that it wasn't. Pavarotti's dad was old. He did not have a huge voice either. I know many people who heard him when he first came out and over the years. It was a lyric voice and that is it.

  • @MrCafiero Just want to add: when the 3 tenors had their performances it was a pleasure for opera loving people. I = a real amateur,am just a listener - and I liked their performances so much. But my 'hero' or what to call him was Luciano Pavarotti. I just liked his voice most - although the other two was also great. But I must add that I suppose they used microphones, because the audience was so huge, big.

  • @petereuropa They certainly used microphones to broadcast it. Pavarotti was often mic'd when singing big roles on stage as well because he was only a lyric. I know people who sang with him and witnessed it. I believe is own manager talks about it in his book. Anyway, I also liked Pavarotti's sound better. None of those tenors could compete with the old tenors though.

  • @MrCafiero wrote: "Pavarotti's dad was old. He did not have a huge voice either. I know many people who heard him when he first came out and over the years."

Can you substantiate your claims? If not, then I call bullsh1t on your statements. Do not spread false propaganda about Pavarotti.

What exactly do you, personally, have against Pavarotti?

  • @MrCafiero wrote: "Opinions should be based on facts. Otherwise they are useless."

FALSE, Mr. cafiero. As is all of your statements regarding Pavarotti. I have never heard such bullsh1t from an alleged "voice instructor" as yourself. If you are in fact a voice instructor, you will recognize immediately, that Pavarotti is yet UNMATCHED in his performance. And yes, Pavarotti had a very BIG voice. But I should like to ask you what EXACTLY qualifies as a "big voice"??

  • @MrCafiero wrote: "First of all, Pavarotti sang dramatic roles even though he was a lyric."

Please define, in your own words, what are dramatic roles and lyrical roles, and how Pavarotti is OR is not suited for them. I am waiting for an answer, Mr. singing Coach.

  • @TheWNMan Are you daft? How am I "bashing" Pavarotti when I say that he was "great" and this recording is "great singing"? Uh....that is a bit stupid. He was a lyric voice. That is not bashing, it is a fact. Björling had a small voice too. Del Monaco and Corelli were much bigger voices. Those are facts. Period.

  • @MrCafiero wrote: ""Pavarotti's dad was old. He did not have a huge voice either"

uuuhh Yeah, I think that was it. It is YOU who are stupid for not remembering what you wrote.

@MrCafiero wrote: "That is not bashing, it is a fact.

According to WHO? Can you name scholarly sources on your information? If not, I would suggest you refrain from spreading false propaganda.

  • @MrCafiero wrote: "Del Monaco and Corelli were much bigger voices. Those are facts. Period."

Again. SUBSTANTIATE your so called "facts." Until you do, I will refuse to accept this garage that Del Monaco and Corelli (and I have heard BOTH of them) have "bigger" voices. Those two do not even come close to Pavarotti.

On what so-called "facts" do you base your opinions on?

I will remind you that this is the SECOND time I have asked you the SAME question.....

  • @TheWNMan Oh, you are an idiot. Never mind. I wont' respond anymore. It is pointless.

    Allora taci e impara!

  • @everyone

LOL, disregard the troll. I seemed to have pissed him off royally because he is incapable of countering my arguments.

    @bodiloto ehi, ciuco! come va?

  • @TheWNMan for the record I am the son of two opera professionals...I loved Pavarotti and heard him in concert with both parents. Del Monaco is widely considered to have had one of the biggest tenor voices ever. This accounts for why he was considered a "dramatic tenor" and Pavarotti a magnificent "lyric tenor". This is not to say that in his later years Pavarotti didn't sing some pseudo dramatic arias e.g. Pagliacci and Nessun Dorma and darn well at that (CONT...)

  • @RichieLeone RememberDel Monaco in his early years sang Ballo&did the scherzo aria "laugh"very well.Pavarotti does not do the laugh in that aria.No big thing,Just a point to show early on Del Monaco was more lyric.Del Monaco also has a beautiful early Madame Butterfly.MDM Che Gelida Manina also drew great praise.I would never prefer to listen to Pav.overMDM.I too am the son of2opera professionals.I really enjoy both tenors.Perhaps you would never prefer MDM as you never heard him LIVE

  • @RichieLeone There is no doubt that Pavarotti's voice carried extremely well& his Che Gelida Manina is exceptional here.Del Monaco is a completelly different tenor, and perhaps shares in a category of vocal phenomenons with Tamagno, Paoli,Caruso, Lauri Volpi& Zenatello.Enjoy

  • Top that recording,if you can fantastic singer ..

  • Beautiful

  • it's so sad and deeply ironic that my three favorite tenors - caruso, pavarotti, and bjoerling all died within about a year of being in magnificent voice and everyone of them should have lived a full retirement for another 10-20 years after giving the world so much inspiration!!!

  • THIS IS PRICELESS TO SEE!!!! OMG!!!

  • That high C at 3:38 is so seamless... Incredible.

  • This is extraordinary! Absolutely charming. His face is so expressive. Thank you so much for sharing this, it adds to the appreciation and enjoyment of Pavarotti's work.

    Requiescat in Pace.

  • Thank you for sharing this gem. A lifelong fan of opera, I had never come across such a young Luciano Pavarotti. What a beautiful voice, commanding technique and imposing physical presence. Above all, his performance exhudes a fine sense of musicianship. Luciano Pavarotti in his prime was truly sublime.

  • Not really big into opera. But I get tears every time I hear his voice. Something heavenly and out of this world.

  • Wow!

    Anthony Paterno

  • Wonderful. Thank you so much

  • Great job with this video, congratulations

  • What Sean Connery might have looked like if he was born in Italy. The voice is one effortless crystal-clear wave after another. Like singing underwater in the Bahamas

  • Who cares how big he is anyhow. The voice here is fresh, beautiful and the top not tight. Mario Del Monaco and Richard Tucker where not big and tall but both had very big voices . Pavoratti was a big man but most impressive was he had a great voice in his prime. He was fat later but who cares if the voice is great.

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THIS??!!

  • Oh, the voice's pretty different from the mature Pavarotti, but still great great singing. And he wasn't so ugly =P

  • OHH MY GOOG EL MEJOR TENOR DE LA HISTORIA

  • I think we forget how big he was( not fat) but tall and a big guy... he was not small boned. Fabulous singing .!
