Maybe all of you think now that the Gothic series suck. Well that's not true, Gothic 1, Gothic 2 and Gothic 3 (with the Community Patch, it's an awesome game) are great. The open world, the music, the game's spirit, the story, the overall feeling ... I find them great. To be honest, I like more Gothic 3 than Skyrim, even if Skyrim is amazing.

It's true, the Gothic series died after 3 .. Forsaken Gods, Gothic 4, Fall of Setarriff are shit. But again, the first three were great :)

It's rather cartoonish design and primitive animations somehow outmatches thoses (STILL) terribly clunky Bethesda's NPC's. And seriously, if you find Skyrim's world is huge and threatening, just take a tour in Nordmar. I clocked more than 250 hours in my first Skyrim playthrough and loved it, but this game has a truly unique vibe, and hold a special place in my gamer's heart.

I discovered and played Gothic 3 in 2011 and gave it a try waiting for Skyrim. I know that vid's point is to play a bad rated game and Forsaken Gods seems to be exaclty that, but from my experience (with all patches & graphic mods), Gothic 3 is an absolutely stunning game and a technical tour de force for it's time. Without fast travel and with hard, non-level scaling ennemies, it actually feels bigger than Skyrim, and make you proud for discovering and conquering any square foot of its terrain.

For what it's worth... Gothic and Gothic 2 are both awesome games (though graphically, they have aged fairly poorly) and Gothic 3 was pretty good too, though it suffered from many bugs. My favorite was where a quest-important NPC managed to walk off the cliff acity was built on as I was approaching the town.

I know i picked this game up during one Steam sale or another on the cheap. I'm glad I never installed it. It seems to play like a bad mod or something, not a professionally crafted game.

The game mechanics are fucking messed up i agree, but the quest and the atmosphere is way better than you make it look like.

Also the story is , imo, one of the best in RPG history. It continued well through G1-G2-G3.

Just give you a try and play this game seriously without cameras you will see its pretty decent.
