Because this is the stage show. it was written in the style of a burlesque or revue, a type of show which regularly featured guys dressed as girls. Kander and Ebb simply push the joke further by giving the actor the highest and longest notes in the show! the film got cold feet.(probably thinking audiences couldn't handle it!) The broadway show thankfully did not. It gives the song added pathos/bathos as Miss sunshine explains that you have to dig below the surface to find the little bit of good
I love the southern Billy Flynn! The acting is great. but the staging isn't too hot. It looks more like a concert version then a full blast production.
Well, actually, it's a full blown production, just no set. I didn'tthink it was necessary. Ihave seen full blown productions and simple ones, and the simple ones always worked best. i suppose its a question of taste :) thanks for the star!:):) Incidentally teh actor playing Mis Sunshine was trodding the boards for the first time :)!
I agree that Chicago is a show best done sparse, but something about it just surprises me, even by Chicago standards. I shouldn't judge it just by this video though.
Anyway, the performances are top notch, so even if these guys were performing in a closet it would be enjoyable :)
Any other Potter nerds reminded of Dolores Umbridge?

What an inspiring Sunshine, that baritone note on BETTER makes me believe I could pull her off with more practice.
...it's too bad I've only got 9 days to audition with this song-can anyone PM and Skype with a baritenor whom has a powerful falsetto?

Actually, i just think it would have looked ridiculous on film. It really works better on stage, imho. (this cast is very good btw, great videos)
