I'm with you on this one. I remember being at a good number of those demos. Wasn't pretty. Good friends got hurt quite badly. Not all the protestors in London that day of the Poll Tax Riots were there for a running battle, many displayed nothing but peaceful resistance in what i can only describe as the face of extreme provocation. And as for what the State got up to concerning the whole free party scene...totally out of proportion. I moved out the country for a while till she'd fucked off...

I went on a few anti poll tax demos, and the second one in London was pretty peaceful, apart from a few drunken BNP arseholes trying to disrupt it at the start, but they were very soon isolated and overwhelmed by sheer numbers. The police were much better behaved, but you still sensed the hostility. There were all kinds of people on all those marches, huge majority ordinary people, never before involved in anything political. But Christ, no politician from this country's ever been so despised.
