3m kite for jumping is pretty crappy, can be done but no hang time really. i kite surf but also have a landkite. I found that the Brand of kite plays a big part in the air time. i have a SLINGSHOT B4 land kite and in 20-30knots it is way more dangerous than my 12m water kite, mainly cause it is a "constant' traction kite (no depower). 20-30 knots on this kite will send you 10-15ft high and up to 50 ft long for anyone between 70-85kg!...hard and fast landings though.
@chrizzle63 it depends on the strength of the wind. I think in 4,5- 5 bft it could be possible but it depends also on the kite. I am flying a peter lynn twister II 7.7m^2. This one is optimized for jumping because of the strong lift. From a wind of about 3 bft it is possbile to jump with my 75 kg for excample. At 4-5 bft with a kite sized like mine, kiting starts to become dangerous if you have not enaugh practice.
@ultimatekiter Once you get a bit of practice at it, it works fine. How do you jump? I've tried other techniques but this will take you higher and put you down more gently than anything else.
thanks for making this video. I'm going ot give your method a try next time I use my Beamer 4. Just to be clear though, is the beamer 4 even capable of lifting? (I mean around 2 meters)
Great intruction vidT Thanx. Bought myself a PL Twister 4.1 this week and am keen on trying it out in some light winds. I've been flying a Speedwing Super Pro for many years already and want to start jumping en pulling
Hello BladeFlyer. First of all thanks for this video!!
I've been trying to jump today in rather strong winds with an Ozone Flow 2.0. With my weight of just 60kg it worked! :D I didn't fly high but I lost ground a little bit!! It sure isn't the best kite for jumping though... ;)
By now I can't manage to do the redirect. I'm too busy with watching the ground to prepare for landing :P I'm sure I'll get that done soon :D
Again, it depends on your weight. I'd say probably not. It's possible to jump with small kites but it's much harder to safely learn. You will float much less and things will go wrong much faster.
Good job on the vid, you should do a how to kite jump for intermediates and point out things like, if you run directly to the side you will get more of a swingy jump, also advice such as how to deal witg gusty winds etc. This vid is ok for bdginners though.
thanks for the tips i will try to pluck up the courage to try some jumps........now i have some idea of how to do it and still retain a pulse and some limbs ha ha thanks for posting
No, it wouldn't. The reason for turning the kite from the edge of the window into the middle is the same as the reason you have to run slightly backwards - the point is to accelerate the kite over your head to provide a temporary extra bit of lift. It's this that pulls you off the ground.
bringing the kite to the side of the window then running upwind gives you a) less force to run against and b) gives the kite a relative wind speed increase and c) the kite has maximum travel to gain speed!
Start with running sideways more than back as I found that less complicated (I can't see why now - it's so simple for me).
Yes - the other thing to remember is to keep running diagonally back until the moment of takeoff - don't change direction and head downwind as the power starts to come in: it's a common mistake when learning.
Can this apply to a rage 3.5? Just wondering thats all? I had a bad fall when it lifted me up unexpectedly, i wasnt trying to kite jump though just regular flying at the time
It's possible yes - but a rage doesn't have a lot of lift. You won't go very high and as you say, you may come down quite hard. Something like a blade, crossfire, haka etc. would be a better kite to jump with.
Nice and simple, good stuff !

this is the hard way plus you have to get it exactly right to work so failure

Ok. But how big need my kite to be?
KingPC66 2 years ago
It depends on your weight and skill level. For someone starting, I'd say you will want a moderately lift kite around the 5m mark.
BladeFlyer 2 years ago
Oké And what about 3m?

how come when u run with the kite its sposed to go the opposite way, would it still work if u moved the kite the same way as ur running?
ive only just started power kiting and im trying to learn how to jump lol but im not to good at it.

BladeFlyer 3 years ago
I believe I'm right in saying running diagonally more gives you a pendulum jump whereas more upwind gives a more vertical jump.

I Kinda of get it.
1. run back diag in direction kite is facing.
2. hard turn other direction.
3. Kite lifts?
4. hard turn back the way you started.
Hard part:
Doing these turns without flying past your head and out of window.
