Now I'm curious how old the Baldwin sisters were ( the characters, not the actresses) when their father died. It just surprises me that the preacher would know him lol, unless the father was over 100 years old when he passed away, those ladies definitely aren't spring chickens. I love the originals but these ones are hilarious :).
Cleavon Little's performance in this movie was wonderful. He sounded like every bit the country Baptist preacher (and I should know I grew up around PLENTY of 'em.LOL)
@ijustkendall Which was a damn shame. Her performance in this is unforgettable. Maybe it's a good thing (since the show strayed in so many ways) that she be associated with this film, which retains a real authenticity.
@tenagnek I agree, I would have loved for her to continue in the part, she was amazing. My favorite performance of hers was on Little House On the Prairie, the episode where she has 3 children and tries to arrange homes for them before she dies - Remember Me I think it was called. She reminds me so much of my grandmother it makes me tear up watching her...
@tenagnek Yeah, I know what you mean. I laughed at Edgar Bergen's and Ellen Corby's Performance as well. Hey do you guys think he would have made a good Substitute HB Lewis on Guiding Light. I didn't know he was Candice Bergen's Father.
@ijustkendall yeah I remember reading that somewhere, do you know if she filmed her episode on Little House before or after this? That particular episode makes me cry everytime I watch it.
I just love this Miss Emily. She is so funny. She seems not all there. To Johnboy: I know you. Do I know you? Then she says "Hawthorne" as if its a question like she doenst know that is him lol.She is so open and her sister seems to get annoyed with her "Sister, you're such a ninny, believin in Santa at your age" THis entire scene is so funny and John-Boy so restless. THen that abrupt "We got to have some gas"
Yes, Patricia did act like she was one step away from the loony bin!! Both of those Baldwin sisters were "ninnies" in this movie!! That was not 'jolly"!! SISTAH!!!!!!! COUSINS!!!!!! I have got to go!! You have got to stay!! EMILY!! I don't know which of the Baldwin ladies were the dumbest!! There's that "I'm much obliged " corny line again!! I'll bet if they have given that sleigh horse some of the recipe, he could have pole vaulted over that big old tree!! Olivia is a super-bitch to John-Boy!
It is my experience that Pilots often start off with certain actors but when the series takes off some of them are replaced with other actors. I love Patricia Neal's performance in this. She wasn't the only actor replaced in the series. I really enjoyed this one :o) though. It brought back memories of when I watched it as a kid.
@Ladylasil I feel the way as you do. The thing most people can't seem to do is view this as a seperate movie/story with dif actors but the same children. They are so used to seeing the TV show and how long it ran with the actors on it. Those of us who saw this one first before the show started understand how good the actors and story is. The drama here and feel is so much greater than the TV show even though I loved the show too.
@ceci1974girl It should be the other way around since Patricia Neal was the first Olivia. It should be that Michael Learned doesnt look like Patricia Neal because she has reddish hair.
