  • how much voltage does that use? and it would be cool if you could x2 that speed

  • Some people need to get off the weed..

  • can that offroad?

  • Its feet are kinda large for the job but it has a lot of them so I think it should get a job at a Asian massage shop where woman walk on your back.

  • walkingchair.co.uk

  • thats cool lol looks like a bug do yall sell those?

  • Cool videos I have been on yoursite for a while

  • Cool video - you have some great uploads

  • Disgustingly awesome.

  • If i ever lose a lung, a spleen, a bladder, thirty-five feet of small intestine, two legs and the ability to reproduce

    i want one of those

  • this is so awesome. in all seriousness, this could totally change how wheelchairs operate forever.

  • how much Power of motor?

  • Pretty nice, thank you for sharing this.

how much the Power of motor do you need?

    How many motor?

  • @TAIVE16 Dude i think there are two battery powered drill/screw driver look at 2:59

  • Speed.?

  • This troper hopes you atleast got good grades for this.

  • music not appreciated.

  • So, what grade did they get for it?

  • Haha I love the drill batteries :)

  • Admittedly I thought this was the same robot as the one from "vagabondworks",

Although Theo wasn't aware of either of them, so permission was never asked...

Anyway, not my fight to fight. (not to imply that he is so inclined)

And with or without permission it's great to see his invention finally be used for human transport! (although I allways imagined something bigger you could ride inside of)

great build, I'm amazed with the speed you ge out of it... nice work =]

  • The force is strong in you!

Great work. I agree with my previous commentor, i want a biiiiig one with a throne on top.

  • Of course we gave Jansen credit, it's in the description.

  • This is a direct copy if not to say RIP-OFF

of the magnificent works of the dutch artist

    Theo Jansen.

He has invented this mechanical way to convert the circular motion to the walking motion, and has been using it for years in his creations, "strandbeesten"

    check it out for yourself:

    strandbeestDOTcom

I hope they at least give him credit...

  • @MosselKots moron, try reading something before bashing it!

  • While this is hilarious and awesome, I fail to see the benefit over a tank-tread design. I assume this was just for shits n giggles.

  • Fund it.

  • lmfao

  • Awesome! Now it's time to scale it up, build it ten feet high, put a dance floor on top, and cruise it around Burning Man!

  • I want to put this on the side of my PC and ride it to LAN parties

  • А теперь блять объясните мне почему давно изобретенные колеса не лучше этого таракана?

  • @tyapka потому, что ты зануда =) смерись )

  • This could be perfect device for handicapped people to move around the apartment. It should be pretty easy to get on with its low profile

  • OH SHI~

  • пиздец

  • how much will these cost?

  • coolest thing ever seen by humanity! I WANT TO BUY IT!!

  • DUDE it totally reminded me of that priest guy off of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy!!

  • omg it's a legway.

  • lol drift

  • Hahaha, yea, that was great.

  • cool!

  • Has anyone noted the similarity to Humma Kavula in that awful hitchhiker's guide remake?

  • @pwntalive Yes! That's what I was thinking.

Also... the Luggage from the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett.

  • How does this beast do on inclines?I really love this, I'd like to make one myself, and of course change it up a bit (a lot).

  • So funny!

  • I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who saw the hundreds of tiny feet and thought of The Luggage.

  • Brilliant!

  • Ништяк. Можно сделать большой вездеход )))

  • I want one of those things.

So I can add a comfty seat.

Put the controls closer to the seat.

Sit with my legs crossed and wear a robe.

    :DD

  • Mental note to download more free mp3s of WMG copyrighted music...

  • WMG.... Go fuck yourself....

  • Why hasn't Anonymous gone after them yet? Forget Scientology, WMG is more annoying!

  • that thing is beast, do you still have it?

  • Can somebody tell me how it does on inclines? Thanks, -Sierra

  • Please see strandbeest for the original.

  • how does it work on sand?

  • Sorry, that was also using Jansens movement!!

  • I own a fabshop in Mo and I love projects like that. We have been drawing on something a bit larger but using Jansens movement. I am so glad to see someone get it right!! Looks Awsome!!! Great job!!

  • That is more or less the coolest thing on 12 legs yet.

  • Come to think of it... If you've ever read discworld, you'll know what I'm talking about... What about building "The Treasure" using these Jansenesque assmeblies?

  • @Fordi You mean the luggage? :D

  • Holy shit this is awesome! It's hilarious to watch the feet move underneath.

  • the coolest thing since the dog robot!

  • thats awesome btw fuck warner & the riaa

  • Cool little toy, just wish Warner wasn't full of douchebags.

I could understand if the video had been done as an advertisement, but copyright in America is going to far.

  • u should put a chair on it

  • wow great! wanna one!How can I make one.

  • could someone post a link to an alternative site where the video is still available with sound?

I really liked the soundtrack, but it looks like some copywrong fag took it down.

    thx

  • Cajun Walker > Segway

I dont think it would be able to handle all the terrain that a segway would.. but who cares if you look this awesome

  • jesus christ the camera movement almost made me throw up! take it easy kiddo!

  • great! but why not put wheel for more speed? Is there any weight constraint?

  • i think its too clever for a feeble minded negative person like you...whose job is to leave negative comments everywhere you go.

  • Great, but how does it do on hills and uneven terrain?

  • Wow... That's amazing. Wonder what it must feel like..

  • Coolest thing ever. I want one. (but please make it 6 ft taller and with an impressive throne on top)

  • As long as you credit Mr Janssen for the legs.

  • Comment removed

  • I;d pay a hefty amount of cash for one of these..

    Between 2-3000$ easily.

    Can you commission?

  • great!!!!!!!

  • Holy crap that thing is creepy!

  • why is everyone using it hunched over?

  • sup with the sound?

  • Hey Kurt. cool ass video! Outta get these things out on the market and get all the old people who can still stand, out of the chairs and on one of these!

  • Audio disabled? What the crap, do companies have men and women whose sole job is to track down youtube videos not "Liegally" using their tracks?>

I dont even get how its not legal?? We dont even make money off these dumb videos.

oh and BTW this Cajun Crawler is the coolest thing ive seen in a Looooooooooong time, I hope you guys perfect it even more. It already looks practical to me

  • This thing is gorgeous! It's like the Segway of the steampunk crowd. Great application, and the demo is fantastic.

The walking motion is delightfully creepy too. I'd love to be the first nerdy chick riding around on one of these bad boys!

  • i want this!!

  • Cool idea! What's the name of the song? Msg me. pls.

  • I heard the song once then when I replayed this video the audio was pulled thanks to WMG. I really liked the song and probably would've bought it, but now nobody will probably know what it is. Nice way to kill free publicity, Warner.

  • Start to think what this can be used for in future ideas. I am sure they can add on a Stair climbing attachment for people with trouble walking. Say a Brain Surgeon has a Spinal injury and can't stand, this could allow him to "walk" in a standing position and he could walk up to a table and operate again. This simple cam idea could do wonderful things for people. great Job Guys. Check out our Fishing Idea we have, it is different too! This Rulez! -Roy M

    Please do more with it..

  • Yeah I got a question, when can I buy one?

  • how much did it cost you guys to build that??? cuz i would buy one 4 sure.

  • This looks like something that would be used by a villain in a far-fetched sci-fi movie. Some sort of tall, becloaked man with dark eys and no hair, constantly sweeping around in his cloak, like a photo negative ghost, until the final battle sequence, when he is revealed to be really short and standing on one of these. Sort of like the ending to Men In Black II, only without Will Smith.

  • If I ever get my feet chopped off, I'm gonna replace em with these

  • it is so cool~ if big enough, lol~i think somebody should be scared~

  • Comment removed

  • Interesting for entertainment and science. I don't see a practical use.

  • It's a cool, original idea, but it looks completely impractical. Aside from being slow, it tips over rather easy on hard stops. I'm sure the engineers realize these flaws and this I'm almost certain it is only a first gen prototype, but as it stands it's not terribly impressive.

  • I would love to see one with a wider leg base and stronger, faster motors.

  • geekologie anyone?

  • awesome and youtube is still fags for blocking tracks. its free promotion

  • i'm glad the audio was disabled. what a wretched soundtrack.

  • Pretty cool, but it would be really creepy if in the future they used this as legs for amputees...

  • Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy all over again.

  • woooow ^^

  • This thing would be great for speedy getaways. "I've got the money, let's split"! Stepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepstepst

    lol

  • I think the side-stance of the skateboard, snowboard and surfboard may be more stable for the rider.

  • Back in Black? This thing is about as cool as an enlarged prostate.

  • sooO pEro nI La NASA coN SuS artRopoDos

  • Gotta admit, that's brilliant. Simple and very well engineered, you can just see a dozen different things being able to jump off that in practical applications already.

  • nice build and looks cool but aren't wheels better..

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Didn't Humans invent the wheel back in pre history sometime?

    :)

  • We are working on getting the sound back. Gotta love those WMG people...

  • not so much :)

  • no sound ?!? fucking bastards, 1 star !!!

  • spidermobile

  • In the future, consider making over 60,000 viewings vomit-free by borrowing someone's tripod. Seriously, I'm camera sick.

  • Geeze, get over yourself, clown.

  • creepy

  • sweet, why not sell it as a kit?

  • Way to go guys, well done!!!!

  • I'd buy one, depending on the price of course. I bet there'd be a lot of kids interested in this as well if it had a better aesthetic design.

  • fuck youtube and fuck WMG

  • I want a car with legs like that... haha

  • cool not practical

  • Nice mechanics...

    Well done job..

But... is its better then segway?

Could use something like this to go through hard grounds and so...

At least, was a great job you guys made in there .. ^^

  • agreed

  • that's okay because i didn't authorize WMG to play their music in my home

  • - METAL GEAR!!! -

  • Wow... Warner Music Group, you're now on my shitlist. I wont be buying/pirating music from WMG ever again...

"This video contains an audio track that has not been authorized by WMG. The audio has been disabled. More about copyright"

  • Damn Warner.

So many of my favourite Youtube videos, destroyed. Millions of views wasted.

  • Regarding the batteries, they actually last a good while. It goes about a fast walking pace, and we maxed it out for a couple of hours and it still had juice. I don't have an exact time.

I haven't got the flux capacitor working yet, so we can't go back in time with Doc yet....I'm working on it

  • It's the luggage!

  • For how long does the charge on the battery last? What is the maximum speed of this thing?

You should create a webpage with information about this.

  • Assuming you can get this up to extactly 88 mph to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of power.. I'd say 5 minutes?

  • what is the point of that thing ?

  • Comment removed

  • sweet... when they sit on the thing, reminds me Humma Kavula! (from Hitchhiker's Guide...)

  • My god, stop moving the camera back and forth. This is worse than blair witch project video.

  • Future.

  • YouTube's new slogan: "Sing along, you know the words!"

  • The sitting position is really cool. I could see it with larger legs and a shorter handle in a Sci Fi movie. Great work guys.

  • please post one on rough terrain, segways have problems on rocky/non-flat surfaces. i believe this could resolve it... given the proper math and leg adaptability.

  • What is the name of first song? (Asking to uploader ;)

  • The first song was Back in Black, then it went into Lowrider, then Walk This Way (Run DMC version), then into Ridin' Dirty. The actual song that was flagged was Walk This Way

  • While that's interesting design as a concept, how does this provide any practical advantage over a wheeled device like the Segway? It increases the complexity of the design and thus makes it more likely to malfunction. It also seems like it would be less energy efficient.

  • I will be honest with you, it really has no advantage over the wheel. We saw this interesting concept (the leg mechanism) and we thought it would be a challenging engineering project. I guess if you want to give this scooter a "higher purpose" then you can compare it to a toy. Engineers design toys, and wouldn't you want to be the first on the block to own one?

  • yeah but its cool so who cares

  • Truly a thing of beauty. I think if the wheelbase (legbase?) was longer it would be more stable in the front back axis. Also if the legs were longer it would be able to move faster.

The nice thing about this is that it uses no power when you are standing still.

  • "This video contains an audio track that has not been authorised by WMG. The audio has been disabled."

    Bastards.

  • Yikes! Attack of the garden weasel.

  • nummy! i like! :)

the last audio track though ... "they see me rollin...'' ... shouldt tghat be 'they see mee crawlin' ? ;)

  • That is spooky!

  • someone please post what the audio was so i can torrent the shi* out of it

  • hell yeah lol

  • Agreed. Someone needs to exile the RIAA to the outer solar system.

  • For some reason I feel like getting a back massage

  • haha it's like the bad guys from movies

  • make it JUMP! LIKE 10 IN THE AIR THEN ILL BE SUPRISED!

  • great innovation! Congrats and such a build ... I dont know what the emphasis on speed is all about though; it looks very slow even in the final run with the helmet.

  • WANT!

And what music did you use so I can go DL it.

  • I want one now!!!!

  • A little on the creepy side ..but it's pretty damn cool.

    Oh and fuck WMG.

  • satan's segway

  • THE LUGGAGE!

  • f*ck WMG

  • FUCK WMG INDEED

  • Perhaps a wheelchair replacement!

    legchair?

  • Congrats on the feature on Engadget...

  • 3.14здец

  • fucking copyrighters!!11 :-[

  • VRAY GOOD

  • it cant go up/down/stairs

    you have lots of work

  • build that onto a char and i'll take one

  • We could build one into a chair....

  • that is AWESOME!! i love my school! RAGIN CAJUNS BABY!!

  • Once again, UL doing more with 50 bucks than the bloated, overrated big boys do with 50 million.

    Props UL Cajun Engineers!

  • Well it cost more than 50 bucks, but it is impressive...

  • And your videos are the pinnacle of video editing spuke....let me bow down to your greatness.....
