I recently rediscovered New Boots & Panties after having not listened to it for about 30 years. It's pure class and one of THE all time great albums. The Blockheads were a truly magnificent group of musicians. My own particulat favourite was Norman Watt-Roy on bass.
May have been released over 20 years before I was born, but I love it AND have "The chances were slender, the beauties were brief" as a tattoo. Great song
First heard Ian Dury with this and sink my boat on The Old Grey Whistle Test in the the 70's, What a great band they were and What a great platform the Whistle Test was for Music lovers.
Got my kids dancing round the room to this, watched Sex and Drugs and Rock n Roll film last night, forgot how much I love his music, so glad I got to see him live
Agree 100% with Bithuige and all other comments. Saw this man and the Blockheads in 1976 when i was 9. Birmingham Odeon. New Street. What a riot. My very first concert with my two big brothers. I was so scared by the volume but loved every minute. Been hooked ever since. Sweet memories. Thank you RAGGMUNKoFLASK. Nice n clear.
too right bithuige -this is my fav blockeads song - theres some great gene vincent uploads on youtube-if u dont know him- then -check out these songs by gene vincent: bird doggin and aint that too much and somewhere over the rainbow and lonesome street anyway good comment from you and thanks for uploading raggmunkoflask r.i.p. ian

May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this track.

Me too back in 77 on the first Stiffs tour. I met him outside Reddington's Rare records and guided him to a taxi. What a gent. Sadly missed..

Ian Dury is the only artist I would describe as underrated... he did what he wanted to, he was the man

I love this song, I've always been a fan of Ian Dury, but Gene Vincent was my hero.
May they both find everlasting peace.
