As long as the pacing is kept at a good speed, and you don't drop off randomly, or bounce the viewer around so much so that they get confused, then length shouldn't be THAT much of an issue. It's the same with any form of entertainment; movies, TV, stage, etc..

Wow Lookacat, you pretty much told me not "abridge" the series. The definition of abridge is:

"reduce in scope while retaining essential elements; 'The manuscript must be shortened' "

And "shorten the manuscript", is EXACTLY what abridging is about. Shortening the STORY, while MAINTAINING the PLOT.

Also first episodes typically run longer because of character intros. Which is another essential part of the plot. If can't sit through that, then don't watch it.

This is a good start, but you REALLY need to cut down the running times and tighten up the script. This episode was FAR too long, and it suffered for it.

I also recommend copying less lines from the episode itself. The scenes with the pirate trio were by far the funniest, in part because you weren't just rehashing the script.
