Many people don't realize this, but parkour can also be used as a fighting style. If you are ever in the situation in which somebody is shooting at you or something like that, You can use the 'dash' and many other moves derived from parkour to decrease the possibility of the shooter getting an accurate shot at you. Parkour can also be used in many other life-threatening situations to increase the chance of your survival, at least, in MY opinion. It's never a bad idea to be prepared :)
does anybody see something they dont like about this video
i dont like the fact tha he just touches with his hands instead of actually propelling himself forward with his hands ..i think it looks better that way
Parkour isnt about proper techniques, its about finding your own rythm just cause somebody does it a way you dont like to do it, doesnt mean that he's nesisarily doing it wrong. This is were you should give a person tips and not make them do it your way. Im just sayin.
yep, i learned that the hard way... almost. i was monkey/kashing a rail (dont ask, i was still learning it) and i foot caught at the very end. i damn near face planted x_x lukily i was able to swing the other leg forward to save myself. the thing about dashes is that its a lot harder to mess up .
@SIFdrow When I first started learning the kong, I actually kept hanging my feet. I hung them bad sometimes, but if you tuck up hard enough you won't fall.
Just to help you out samsonnguyen, you should really only Kong wide objects like picnic tables. But if you choose to not take my advice, fine with me, but you'll have a way higher chance of getting an injury by Konging over a railing rather then just Vaulting over it.
The basic tutorial is for those just starting out. It teaches you basically wot to do, the ADVANCE tutorial goes over the smaller elements of the move...e.g. perfect hand position, how to take off...the things you dont need to know when you start...
What did you do when you learnt this move....magically know all these things? Parkour aint just 'go out and do it' you need to know wot ur doing 1st........................................
Yeah, well that's arguable, becaues many elements in parkour are just go out and do it, but vaults like dash vaults need to be taught in this manner (like your video) or you can try doing it in a gym (that's where I've been able to do it, I haven't done it outside yet)
Really you cant learn any move unless you are taught it...ok...you can go and monkey a rail or something, but odds are you'll do it wrong...you may land it wrong, you may do something dodgey. Maybe with years of practice you'll sort this out for yourself, but even the creators of parkour had help outside and inside
Yeah, that's true... I guess everybody learns this either by step-by-step tutorial or just from like a friend at school who practices parkour at a gym or you know something like that
I can't see why people say that the dash is unefficient. I find it very efficient for longer obstacles. and for stuff that you just want to straight up jump over it's good ass insurance
well...its not really that its unefficient, its just not really all that safe to do without knowing the thing your jumping first. It's probably better to dash small/medium objects (that you know aren't to long and have a safe landing area) rather than monkeying or semi-konging simply becuase its so quick, but anything longer than about 4-5 feet is pushing the dash and kongs are just more effective over that distance
I quite like the dash...it gets to much bad press
Because I'm too lazy to find a beginner's tutorial for this trick, I'm just gonna ask a question here. When you do this vault, you just jump over the obstacle and catch yourself at the end?
Wow I was tired last night... But yeah, I've seen your basic tutorial now, I love how you use the same video clips for both basic and advanced tuts =P
Whoa, is there any reason to get worked up like that? I didn't happen to look over to the right, I was tired and was probably heading to a different website or something. By the way, I spend most of my time free running. Parkour is a fun little side hobby, but I enjoy doing flips more. So I don't really seek out tutorials too often.
nice work again m8, i think when improving your dash the most important thing is making it look good, although this isnt freerunning. Once you do it properly you will look similiar to cats etc which do this vault quite often, showing natural beauty :)
You could probably do it. The dash vault actually is not physically hard to do. The mental block on the other hand makes it one of the hardest vaults. Get over that and you're good.

no vault is hard, its the obstacle you do it on

i love dashes, they are safer then kongs IMHO. or at least on lower obstacles. (id rather land on my back then my face) plus they are fun!

you cannot compare vaults.
that isn't an advanced dash, there is only dash, you don't learn, you practise.
If the landing started in the middle, it wouldn't be a dash, it would merely be jumping upon the rail.
A dash is a dash you noob -.-.
pleeeaaase get better.
this is not a hate comment by the way.

@ParkourBlog Honestly IMHO, and from what i've learned about parkour there is no one right way to pass all obstacles.
You'll have to manuever yourself and tailor the movement to the obstacle. Very helpful stuff in the video though, I really enjoyed it.

the 1st related video is a basic dash tut
but yes, that is the vault, however i'd say you catch your self a bit before the end...probably just as your legs pass the object or a little after
