  • I'm not a MT YET.. but i'm studying as one. I'd definitely would require for him or her to get a note from their doctor! Just to protect myself as an MT and in the best interest of the client.

  • Tell them that only swedish massage can be given, no deep work.

  • I'd need a Dr.'s note. Pain killers would def. effect the clients response to sustained pressure. They might not feel how deeply a therapist is going because of the numbing affect of meds. This could result in your accidently hurting them & subsequent lawsuit . Then I'd offer them a good discount coupon (30 day with Dr.s note) to come back. They know I cared about their health, more than I cared about the loss of income. Cover yourself, if your in doubt, refer it out.

  • Client who started pain meds. I would find out what meds she is on? Why she has the pain meds, for what kind of pain? If she is willing to continue the massage, what was she wanting to get out of the massage?

  • Work on them only with Dr's note stating it is ok, and explain their options, stating light massage to prevent the results, and let them decide only with a note from Dr. W/O note, refuse service and alternate appt. on date no meds are taken. ~Chrissy

  • Find out what they were taking it for!!!

  • I'm not an MT. I guess that I would ask why they are on the medication so that I wouldn't cause damage which they wouldn't feel. I would probably say that I'll be applying more pressure than what they think that I am.
