  • thanks for the vid! I was going to get the p22 but after seeing a few vids about that one, and then seeing this, I think I'm sold on the sig. So once again, great vid, and thanks!

  • @hesmotit Before you do that, go to my channel and watch my video on the Ruger SR22 Pistol. I would recommend it before the SIG. Check it out and let me know what you think.

  • how should the safety work? I've just bought a new one and it looks like the safety is not working at all .

  • @SAQQUSAWRU I am not 100% sure, but from looking at it, it appears to me that it is a firing pin inhibitor. I think that is why the hammer continues to drop when the trigger is pulled just as it would with the safety off. Sorry about the delayed reply, I was on vacation.

  • My wife and I just completed our conceiled carry training today. I shot my Sig Pro 9mm because I only have 1 mag for the mosquito. After the training I had a few minutes until dark so I ran 2 more magazines of CCI Mini Mags thru it and it performrd perfectly. This week I'm gonna try some of the Winchester 333 and see how it does. Keep you posted.

  • @D148521 My Mosquito doesn't do well with the Winchesters. After it got a little dirty I was getting 2 or 3 jams per magazine. Usually they were failures to feed. The cartridge would become jammed in the feed ramp.

  • Yeah, the first round I tried to shoot didn't fire, and it was a Mini Mag. Jammed in the barrell so tight I had to pry it out with a knife. Scared me to death. I thought I had a lemon for sure. But, after that it worked allmost flawlessly. Whew. So far so good. It feels so good in my hand and feels a lot like my Sig Pro 2009. Thanks for your help.

    Donnie D

  • @D148521 Yeah, mine jammed with a mini-mag the other day too. The ammo mine really really hates is those Winchester 333 packs. 2 or 3 jams per mag. Not good. Stay away from it. It rocks Federals pretty well and, of course, the CCI stuff.

  • Bought the Mosquito today, had time to run 150 or so rounds thru it, some CCI Mini Mags, some Blazers and some Winchester bulk. A couple of failure to eject or load with the bulk, but otherwise, very happy so far.

    Donnie D

  • @D148521 Yeah, it is a little picky with ammo. It comes with two springs, don't bother putting in the tighter spring, I did and it jammed with everything I put in it. I went back to the original spring and it cleared of a lot (not all) of the malfunctions.

  • Great vod. Helped me a lot. Headed to the gun shop today to get a .22 auto, either Sig, S&W .22 or maybe a Ruger. Not sure yet. Love Sigs though.

    Donnie D

  • @D148521 The SIG feels really good and is great for training because it likes to malfunction. If you want something more reliable go for the SR22, you won't be sorry you did.

  • Oh an Matt (assuming thats your name) should i get a ruger sr22 rimfire pistol or sig mosquito threaded barrel, and what ammo did u say was good again?

  • @HecklerGT2 My name really is Matt and I am uploading the SR22 Pistol review right this moment. It should be up and running in a few hours. The short answer is definitely get the SR22 it is a much better gun if you ask me. I tried everything from hypervelocity to bulk ammo from Walmart and never had a single malfunction. Great, great little gun, that SR22.

  • just out of curiosity what would a 22 do to someone if you hit them in the chest?

  • federal n winchester will work. i agree with u about the gun about being a training shooting gun, i enjoy this gun because it jams, n i finally got it to work. oil on the feed ramp n oil on the ammo makes it work great n oil inside the gun where the bullet shell goes makes it work way way better

  • @superV10031986 Thanks!

  • Well done on the video.

  • Great video - I just did a written photo review (and shooting demo you can see on my channel) of the M&P 22. I agree 100% with what you say about having the opportunity to clear FTF's. The M&P 22 seems to be more tolerant of cheap ammo than the Mosquito, but you still get some FTFs with the Federal Value Pack.

  • @WatchTalkForums Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. I appreciate it. Federals are still my favorite bulk ammo though. I have had good experiences with it.

  • Nice video...just got this gun and I learned a lot from watching...

  • @skelter741 Thanks, man. Glad it helped. I appreciate the feedback.

  • Would anyone recommend the Federal High Velocity Ammo for the Mosquito? I like this gun the CCI Mini Mags worked, but the Remington Vipers jammed. But I think it was because I did not oil it after 100 rounds like some on YouTube suggested. Any luck with Federal?

  • Thanks for the video I just bought the mosquito today.

  • just a update the mosquito. i have had nothing but problems with mine, until i started using federal Game Shok. they seem to pop a bit louder an blow that slide back with no issues yet.

  • @catfish013 Awesome. Thanks for the tip! I will test them out as soon as I get the chance.

  • The reason they call it a Mosquito is because it sucks. Mine frequently has failures to extract. Less with mini-mags, but still more often than what is enjoyable. Mini-mags seem to have thicker rims than remington and winchster bulk packs. The thicker rims allow the extractor to (usually) pull the spent case out of the chamber before it looses grip. I still like the gun and am glad that I made the purchase. I agree with you that it has a very nice feel and I have large hands. Nice review.

  • @bansheebackwards Ha ha. It is finicky, no doubt. But that makes for a good training tool, I think. As long as malfunctions come once a mag or so and not 5 per mag.

  • Also, I wanted to say, I learned to shoot on a S&W Model 41 that was match-tuned by a renowned gunsmith and I'll be damned if it doesn't FTF, FTE and just fail in general at times and while ammo and being clean and lubed is a big part of it, I think people forget that is the nature of the beast with .22 anything in general. If it's not operating at centerfire pressures, it isn't operating at centerfire reliability levels and thus not comparable.

  • I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this video. People love to lambaste the Mosquito, but your review was completely objective and fair. I also like the fact that you like the fact that you have failures with it. Failures are a training opportunity! With a practice pistol, this is a plus, imo. Your review sealed it. I'm getting a Mosquito. I have two other SIGs I carry and this gives me the opportunity for cheap practice with failure drills. I'm giving this video a thumbs up.

  • i sold my mosquito. it is simply too picky on the ammo. i sent my back to sig. it still had issues once and a while. my weapons MUST run perfectly. if not they get repaired or sold. the only ammo that fed "most" of the time were CCI mini mag 40 gr round nose plated. do not bother with other ammo. as a result i sold the mosquito and bought a p220 .22 cal. the 220 is awesome. simply perfect. no issues at all. a far better weapon. better sights. i just got the 45 exchange for it.

  • @Mattsplat1975 I've got the heavy spring installed. I use Weapon's Shield lubricant, but just a very small amount.

I've found some .22 ammo has too much wax, including one lot of CCI mini-mags a year and a half ago. I suspect that was the problem with the Winchester X ammo.

  • @maxseapete Yeah, I noticed the Mini-mags were really slippery when I was loading my mags.

  • Thank you for the enjoyable video. The Sig Mosquito is the gun that I always take to the range. It's accurate, fun to shoot and reliable. That's right. I haven't had a misfeed in over 3000 rounds and just a few failures to fire. I only shoot CCI Mini-Mags with this gun, though.

When I first purchased this last year, I did have a number of misfeeds with Winchester X ammunition. I'm not sure that ammunition would not perform well now, though. This gun needs to be cleaned religiously.

  • @maxseapete It's funny. I just took the Mosquito to the range yesterday and I took some Remington "Golden Bullet" because I wanted to get rid of it and I took some CCI Mini Mags and both ammo had issues but the Mini mags did WORSE? I was puzzled. When I cleaned the Mosquito I replaced the recoil spring and put in the heavy spring. Going to go shoot next week and try it again. Which spring do you have in yours?

  • Just bought the same gun for 279 shipped :-)

  • if you shoot about a thousand rounds of cci stingers it will straighten up and shoot a lesser ammo because the hammer spring is stiff so you have to get it hot so it will soften my dad has one and he asked a gun smith

  • @yourtofiz Wow, thanks for the comment. Sounds like a good excuse to go shoot a bunch!

  • @Mattsplat1975 ya well it fixed my dads up and it worked good you can buy a new spring for it on the internet that shoots right but its funner to shoot it a bunch

  • GREAT VIDEO !!! WELL DONE

  • @Artoconnell I love it when people tell me that. It means they are getting something out of it. Thanks, I really appreciate it!

  • Its it a good deal to get one of these for 250$ its only shot about 5 times

  • @dtmckellop Yeah, if it is in good shape I would buy it. Go for it, man.

  • Good vid. I have 3 buddies that own these little mosquitos and they hate it. Theirs would jam on cci minimags also. Not as often as a bulk pack of course. But glad to hear you're enjoying yours. Even using its weakness to your advantage is very ingenious lol

  • @dragon281tx Yeah, it is fun to shoot. And how often to you get to do real malfunction drills?

  • i saw a lot a crappy vidios about sig mosquito,i have one and i agree 100% whit you, great video,a lot of info in 8 minutes, good job buddy

  • @sergioeortega Thanks, man. I appreciate you saying that. Glad you liked it. I just posted a new video of the Springfield XDM 4.5 .45 cal. Check it out if you are interested.

  • Ok awesome! Where did you buy those? Maybe if you are bored one day and have five or ten minutes you could make a video on how you did it. I really love the gun and I really want to take advantage of the accuracy and I do not want to mess anything up on it. I would really appreciate it and I love the videos and keep them coming! John

  • It is really simple. You just drill a hole and screw them in. The trick is being careful and getting the hole straight. I got mine at a local gun shop. Just ask around at your local gun shop and they should have some.

  • Hey Matt I am looking into getting a Savage 93R17 BSEV, and I saw you were shooting tannerite with one but you had a bipod on it. I am wondering how you did the bipod for it? John

  • @MrKutless7 I just bought some swivel studs and drilled and installed them (very carefully). It is such and accurate rifle it really needs a bipod or a rest to take advantage of its accuracy.

  • can wait im gettin it for my b day. my dad wants to shoot a semi together him shooting his 9mm and ill shoot this. He wants to get my a smaller caliber and dont think im a wimp ive shot his 9 mm and iver gor deer rifles and shotguns

  • @TheHuntingFanatic Well, when you are buying your own ammo you are going to appreciate the Mosquito and the .22 lr. And if your dad is buying the ammo he is going to let you shoot a lot more .22 than if he bought you a 9mm. I just bought a holster for my Mosquito, I will try to do a video for it soon. Watch for it.

  • @Mattsplat1975 i totally understand we would go shooting more but all my guns are deer rifles so that get expencive and kinda boring cause have to let barrel cool. So i love 22's i hate when people think they are toys. would you want to get shot by one? then its not a toy. i have a 22pistol but a 6 shot revolver so thats not to fun. and we have like 5 bricks or 22's.

  • I'm in the California 10 day waiting period for my mosquito and really looking forward to taking it out. I bought it after deciding not to get a 22 conversion kit for my Sig 1911 (awesome 1911 btw). It cost me $330 + tax, about the same as a conversion. My question is, which recoil spring should be used and why? Thanks

  • @str8shoot The instructions that come with the Mosquito tell you that for most shooting the spring that is in the gun is the one you will want. It also tells you when to use the other one. I am not home right now but I think I basically just said, if you have problems, try the other spring. Don't stress though, just read the user's manual. Have fun shooting! If I were at home right now I would give you a better answer. sorry!

    Matt

  • hey, cool video. I've got the black mosquito; i do like the 2 tone! I've tested a few different ammo's haven't shot the CCI yet. Partly because of the good reviews on CCI, like you, i've WANTED my gun to malfunction so I COULD learn to solve it.

Its kind of like driving a car, you need to KNOW what it's going to do in case life gets a little hairy.

I've been pretty happy w/ the Winchester 555 bulk pack. shot 400 or so out of it with very few malfunctions. mine has no mods; yet.

    Great Video.

  • @michaelsboyd That was the excuse I used with my parents when I would go do donuts in the snow-covered parking lots of churches and schools. "Hey, I have to learn how to recover from a spinout!" Ha ha. Thanks for the comment, bro!

  • @Mattsplat1975 nice. we have more in common than initially thought. LOL now that i'm older, I still get in the mood to drive it like I stole it. :c)

  • Nice review. I love the look of the Mosquito that comes with the threaded extended barrel, and the digital camo. It looks SWEET. I've wanted one for a while.

  • @762x51n8o Yeah, I have seen the one you are talking about and it is good looking. I just know that I would never fork out the money for a suppressor for a .22 and I really love the two tone look. I have an XDM that is two-tone like this and it is a gorgeous piece too. In fact, I need to get off my butt and do a review. I still haven't gotten around to it.

  • @Mattsplat1975 I hear you, that's why I haven't jumped on it -- way too pricey for a .22. To me the entire fricking premise of a .22 is practicality. Which means it needs to be priced appropriately.

  • Great review. I have a Walther P22 that jams with CCI and Federal bulk. I also didn't want to go with a Ruger or Buckmark because of the same reasons that you mentioned. Now that you mentioned that the gun jamming is actually a good training tool you have made me see the flip side since my Glock never jams on me at the range. Thanks.

  • @aferr1973 Yeah, I am not happy about any gun that jams but this does provide a unique and realistic training opportunity. I think the .22 cartridge is just a tough one.

  • get a tan dude

  • @nonglotter Um....I'm white. Oh, and winter isn't even really over here yet. It was snowing again today.

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW LOOK WHO APPEARED. lol

    And good review as always

  • @305tzar I know, huh? And this will blow you away but I just uploaded another video too. Watch out! I am on a video streak!

  • Mine jams alot with CCI mini mags. I think I need to polish the feeding ramp. Great review and thanks.
