darwintea: I installed the resizing die in the turret priming position for confident shell alignment and the Gen3+ priming delivery system. I then noticed that my shell plate was slightly out of alignment with my turret, which was a result of my shell plate assembly out of clock alignment with the ram. It was actually worn to the point that it would not hold position. I ended up pinning the shell plate lower assembly to the ram. Loaded 100 rnds in 10 min. Thanks for your help.
Darwintea: I took your advice and ordered a new primer deliver system. I discovered that they are on Gen3+, I was using Gen2. It looks like you are using a sizing die to align the shell casing as the primer is inserted. Lee's troubleshooting section of their web site also suggests using one so I ordered one of those also. Thanks for your videos and effort, they are well appreciated. Lee is a great company, I would hate to have to give up on them.
You should hang on to this lee press, I have a load master and for the past two years I have had nothing but troubles with it. I have to continualy replace plastic parts. The priming sysytem extremly troublesome, Lee just can't seem to get it right. I'm very mechanical, but still seem to have a lot of issue with the load master. Good luck to anyone buying a Lee
@slackersnpr go to forums . loadmastervideos . com . That's my forums and we have helped countless people get their presses working in top notch order.
Lee has redesigned the primer assembly. If you send them some crunched primer sliders, they will send you a whole new assembly. They may send you one if you just call and ask them for one.
The redesigned assembly eliminated crunched primer sliders, but if you are getting them, something else is wrong.
It sounds like you weren't using the right disk opening from the start. Some powders do not meter well, especially small charges with the adjustable charge bar. Some people put very small vibrators (think cell phones) on their powder measure to make charges more consistent.
You can load any pistol ammo with this, and virtually all rifle calibers. With the extensive case prep needed with rifle ammo, it may not be as advantageous as it is with pistol ammo. I have used mine to load 9mm, .38 Special and .45 ACP.
Reloading shotgun shells takes a different type of press. Lee also sells those.
great vid. where might i buy a good used proggressive reloading press.. im having a hard time finging one.. that or a site where i might look... i dont have tons of money as my dad just died but id really like to get into it.. thanks again..
Do you get consistant powder measure in each case? Reason I ask is because i have this press and have yet to get 2 cases with the same amount of powder.....just had to re-load 400+ rounds again because the powder was too light in 95% of them.
2 boxes of ammo in under 10 minutes. not bad at all!!! My apprehension about this press is that you can't really reef on big calibers imo. eg; 300 win mag, 458 lott, etc... it'd preclude me from loading some of the stuff I might have.
@sdt11670 Cannot speak for his loading, but I have one and it loads ammunition that is as accurate as I am. I have used about 8k rounds of 10mm Auto loaded on mine with no issues. The powder dump system seems to be pretty good and is usually accurate to .1 grains. I find that a particular load's accuracy is affected by the an untuned powder charge more than the press anyway.
After watching this complete set of loadmaster videos I decided to go ahead and get one. Budsgunshop on the internet has them for $220. It was easy to set up as I viewed these videos as I was setting up my loadmaster. Thank you DarwinTe
so you dont clean the primer area first after they have been popped out...I saw a video where he does..."I'm just about to start loading" have you ever had rounds fail because you didnt clean the primer area before putting in a new one? or does it not matter? thanks you
Ahh,nice vid but I`ll stick to the single stage press...a bit more time but atleast I kno whats going on w/my powder and stuff..I do like the way the primer holder shake itself...
Shopping around, I looked at the Dillon 550 and the Lee Loadmaster. Both have equal capability, but the Lee is 1/2 the price. Someone commented about "how long to set it up", It'a a machine, any machine needs to be set up to work properly. You also have clean and maintain it regularly. Same as you'd have to do for any press. But I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the design and performance of this press.
I liked watching this video while I wiped case lube off 223 brass. I only got through 47 cases while you got through 100! I felt like I was sitting at the bench with my buddy reloading! I found I had to try NOT to start up a conversation with the screen!!!
the only bad things is that on the progressives you have to keep it slow on the lever or componets are gonna be flying everywhere lol i want to make that investment how much is that? im reloading like 10to 12 on two single stage presses. so with this one i could maybe pull out an 140 instead of just 100
Looks like you had more than 100 primers in the primer tray. I have multiple trays for mine. Have loaded over 100,000 of 9mm and 40 S&W on mine. Great press for the money
How much time did you have to spend getting that thing to run properly? Probably a lot of time that you could have spent reloading without problems on a Dillon.
Yeah, that was it. Sometimes a couple of primers get next to each other instead of sliding ouit of the tray and down the trough. Shaking things a little gets them going again. A couple of times I don't place a bullet for a couple of cycles. This is because I didn't turn the case feeder to a new tube when the tube feeding them ran out. I don't even use the case feeder any more. I did this to see how fast I could load 100 rounds. I had the bullets laid out in rows, too, which sped things up a bit.
I had a horrible time with the Loadmaster but the PRO 1000 work great. I have also Loaded the Dillon 650. You get the same occasional screw up with the Dillon. I also think the powder measure is the most trouble free part of Lee's. I still verify charge by my seating position looking at the top of the powder each load.
I can see you have never had a primer lid come off yet. Shake them without holding the lid will give you a surprise you won't like! They will fall off.
The Lee Pro 1000 most certainly both shapes and deprimes the cases. The Lee Pro 1000 uses a standard 3-set of dies, the first one shaping and depriming them, the second priming, flaring and charging and the third seating the bullet and crimping.
Cant comment on the Load Master as i have never handled one.
Ah, thank you for that clarification. I didn't think those things would take place in the same stage. I'll remove my previous comment to avoid causing people confusion.
I have NO idea what I am doing re: reloading. I have a lyman turret and a couple of dies, and about a thousand rounds of brass, and an OLD lyman reloading book. What is the difference in a "progressive" press, and a classic press..., besides money? I plan to go to a gun show tomorrow and find out as much as I can, and go to a gunsmith here in town to get educated as well as possible. Any other suggestions?
there are 3 types of presses, the most basic and probably best to learn on is a single stage press. On a single stage press, you resize/deprime all your brass, then change out the die to bell the cases, then change the die again to seat the bullet and crimp. Its a much slower process, but you learn how things should look and work. A turret press has all the dies on it at once and you can rotate them around by hand. A progressive is what is in this video, where the cases automatically advance
Not necessarily. There is just more moving parts and you have to pay attention because you aren't checking everything every step of the way. (ie if the primer is fully seated or if the proper amount of powder was used)
It is really too bad that there are some people who attack those who have a knack or tallent for an activity that they have not been able to master. I don't really care if you have been playing the piano with one finger for 40 years and think that is the only way to go.
If you have any play in your press Operations .... Priming..... And Seating Your Bullets ESP: .....Ect. Ect. Ect. You Will Not Have Consistant Loads . I have learned that in the 40 + years I`ve been reloading . These are inportain factor`s if you want better than factory ammo . Factory ammo Mechinrey get out of sink and hundreds of rounds get loaded before the equipment is re calabrated . That is the bigest reason you get a flyer or two in a 5 or 6 shot target group .
My Friend , I recomend a Good Heavy Cast Iron Single Press . One that is Solidly bolted to your Loading bench . You also want your bench Very solid and Bolted too a wall stud ,and or too the floor or Both. A Lee Clasic Cast Single is a Well Built press and there cheaper than all the rest of them on the market " I own 5-of them . Do your loading in Single steeps" so You can See what`s going on with each steep , ever time you pull that press handel . You Want That Press SOLID Mounted .
Well my Friend, I wish you Luck" I FINELY" gave up buying Progresive type loading Mechines , after wasting around $2500.00 of my hard Earned money and about 5 years of Time trying too make them load a case right . I don`t like a LOT" of thing`s about Each" of them. The main thing... Knowing how much powder is being droped in a case, and Bullet Seating. I don`t want worie about something going wrong, and pos. hurting a by-stander @ the range , and Or destroying one of the 68 prized weapons I own.
He is going with a single press loader. So he can spend the time putting effort into his bullet that will better ensure a safer, more powerful round.
So you can either crank out a few hundred fast, or a few you know are solid slow. Your face, fire arm, and life. Personally, I love a press like this. My time is more important then safety. I like motor cycles, smoking, and fist fights. However, caution is its own reward.
but I know it won't be as finicky as the Lee presses. Brother You" Said a Mouth Full there " I`ve got over $600.00 tied up in this piece of junk" Bullet feeders and all , and It ALL" A Joke From Hell ! Also bought one of those Classic Cast Turrent Presses, Another PIECES UF JUCK " Classic Turrent will seat bullets all over the place 0.10 too 0.28 or more Big time . You never get the same thing . Huge amount of Play in the top Turrent.
I've got a Lee single stage press that actually works just fine, except that I had to duct tape some cardboard to the size because it was ejecting primers everywhere except the primer tray.
That, however, was my first press and served me well for 15,000 rounds. It is still in like new condition but I find the older I get the more I am in a rush to do things. Which is why I now have a brand new Dillon 550b.
Not sure why someone gave you a thumbs down for posting your opinion, and experience, but I will trump it with a thumbs up. If people have complaints or complements, we should hear them both. I don't work for Lee, nor any other company. I just want the truth.
I just finished loading 500 rounds on a single-stager...my shoulder's killing me and it took me A LOT LONGER than that and I had more 'boo-boos'. That video had me both laughing & crying, Thanx for posting...good advertising for Lee proponents!
I have a loadmaster and have loaded probably several hundreds of thousands of rounds in it. It's the best press on the market.
The number one issue I see with it (which I don't see in this video) is people not mounting it to a ROCK SOLID base that does not move at all. That fixed 99% of my issues.
I also have a Pro 1000 that's a nice press, but I needed 4 stations.
Are you talking about the Loadmaster, or the Pro 1000?
The Pro is a nice, cheap starter press to get your feet wet in progressive reloading, but the price difference between that and the Loadmaster is so (relatively) small, only a hundred bucks or so, you're better off with the Loadmaster. Then you know that you can load ANY round you want.
The nice thing about the Lee is that there are lots of people out there with Blue fever that will literally GIVE their Loadmaster to you.
a pro 1000 is an aggravation machine. do yourself a giant favor and get a lee classic turret press or a dillon/hornday progressive. I've got a 550B that basically I paid nothing for and classic turret.
How many times have you pinched your left hand in the press? Dude, use a little more bell on the mouth of the case so you don't have to hold on to the bullet all the way into the die.
I wish I could be able to reload as fast as you do, it takes me 2 hours to reload 100 rounds on the Loadmaster. The case feeder is inconsistent and sometimes a primer get stuck and prevents the press to index, I have to remove the whole shellholder plate in order to solve the problem.
When running it fast like this, probably not as good as when running the press normally.
Powder drop accuracy is somewhat dependent non the type of powder, of course. Ball powder meters best. OAL can be quite accurate, too. Progressive presses are not for bullseye shooting, IMHO. They are good at cranking out ammo quickly, but for the most accurate reloading a single stag press would be better. The ammo made on these presses is fine for 99.99% of shooters.

As for this video, I cheated a bit. I had the bullets lined up in rows on my bench so I wouldn't have to turn them "right side up".
I normally verify the charge and then just visually verify EVERY charge before placing the bullet.
Go to forums . loadmastervideos . dot com and you'll find all of the info you are looking for.

a pro 1000 is an aggravation machine. do yourself a giant favor and get a lee classic turret press or a dillon/hornday progressive.

The case feeder is inconsistent and sometimes a primer get stuck and prevents the press to index, I have to remove the whole shellholder plate in order to solve the problem.

so how accurate is this press with powder loads and the depth of the bullet?
disturbedone5009 3 years ago
When running it fast like this, probably not as good as when running the press normally.
Powder drop accuracy is somewhat dependent non the type of powder, of course. Ball powder meters best. OAL can be quite accurate, too. Progressive presses are not for bullseye shooting, IMHO. They are good at cranking out ammo quickly, but for the most accurate reloading a single stag press would be better. The ammo made on these presses is fine for 99.99% of shooters.
