  • At 1:00 he says sun-eyed and then when sings the next lyrics he says cyanide. He says both to mind fuck us some more

  • what kind of guitar is that? :O

  • @PEPS165 Its a Danelectro

  • @GornickPT thank you (;

  • $cientology alert!

  • its sun-eyed guys.. come on.. >_> none of u know what beck is talking about so dont say it doesnt fit with the rest of the song

hes saying hes going to steal her eyes because hes going to have her vision, which is of the sun, hes not even talking about a real girl

u cant understand any music, or Beck for that matter, without reading ACIM or knowing mysticism

  • I remember before people accepted cyanide. God, having the lyrics "steal her eye" followed by "sun-eyed" would have been .. just weak. (it also wouldn't make sense to the rest of the lyrics). Plus it's Beck so he's most likely saying it like that purposely, it's even written "my......girl" on his official website. Say cyanide really fast repeatedly, you'll start to lose that middle syllable.

  • @Sportymcdouglas why would they censor cyanide though?

  • Michael cera plays bass

  • Comment removed

  • @thetrueStaub cyanide is a poison. Murder through poison is often associated with the use of cyanide

  • Michael Cera and Beck, same dood.....srsly.

  • look at that guitar. amazing.

  • He kinda looks like he is stressed about it. He wasn't feeling the music. But cool.

  • i didn't know michael cera sang

  • @simplysoda13

michael cera actually does sing. he sang back up vocals on weezers latest album (only one song) and sang a little bit in scott pilgrim vs the world. i know you were being sarcastic, but just lettin everyone else know. and yes, i know you were reffering to the fact that he looks like michael cera here :P

  • i didn't know michael cera sang

  • Beck looking young!

Thought Michael Cera jumped in on guitar for a while!

  • One of my most favorite Beck's!

  • For the benefit of those who don't have a comprehsive perspective and understanding of life;all religions and philosophies have negative and positive aspects; this is an undisputable FACT; if one of my parents dabbled in one group or another during their lifetime it does not brand or label me....I can find any number of noble attributes in Catholicism or Judaism or Hinduism; it does not label me in any way...Beck is a chill, humble and kind genius; his entire life's work is a testament to that

  • The solo could have been a little more meaty, but still a good performance.

  • 1:17 you can hear him pronounce the "y" in cyanide...but some of the other times he clearly says sun-eyed. Maybe it's both

  • I absolutely love Beck songs with energy like this

  • I liked how he got in to it more the second verse....then he's jammin

  • dam hes good....why dont the radios atleast play beck....give us somethin

  • try singing the word cyanide as fast as he does. it's cyanide. even if he does switch between sun eyed and cyanide he says cyanide at least once :)

  • he doesn't say it fully. right? just like.. how people don't say... "Picture", they say "pitcher".. cy-nide.

  • he looks like michael cera

  • haha, i thought so too, a bit.

  • @DDball He looked kinda like Richard Dean Anderson from MacGyver to me:D

  • @FitOfJoy123 correction: michael cera looks like beck haha

  • no, michael cera looks like him ;)

  • Beck was born first! Therefore Mr. Cera looks like Beck :)

  • Beck Rules!

  • callate el hocico si ni sabes quien es!!!!... mejor escucha tu salsa

  • Esta chingona esta sesión.

  • 2:00 hahahaaaaaaaaa

  • it's both, beck changes it around everytime he plays this song

  • slant eyed?

  • he probably says both cyanide and sun-eyed at different times

  • it sounds like hes switchin off w/both

  • He is saying maizena.

    maizena is flour in spanish.

  • maizena is a type of flour but harina is flour in spanish

  • sun eyed

  • well both sun-eyed and cyanide would make sense.

  • the rest of the lyrics are pretty dark so cyanide makes sense, but it does sound different depending on the version

  • @pixlykid 'telephone call from a midnight hanging'

  • I'm not sure on the whole sun eyed/cyanide thing BUT in this he says cyanide pretty much all the way through, not that it helps any!!!

  • Great Version!

  • Ya at 2:08 its definately cyanide

but at 2:16 its definately sun eyed

  • i know everyone is tired of this but i swear he says sun eyed, then cyanide, then sun eyed, then cyanide

  • He does say cyanide girl in this version, but in the album it is all sun eyed girl

  • Love this song but I swear he says sunna sun eyed and cyanide in the chorus just to fuck with everyone. I know when an interviewer asked he still didn't admit to what it was but that's why I love Beck. At least I don't think it's summer girl anymore...

  • Beck needs to get JMJ back.

  • No it definitely is Sun-eyed

  • i love this song , where can i found the video ! i couldn´t found it anywhere .

  • i miss him so much he has changed a lot :'(

  • I like sound of his guitar here...veeery nice

  • obviously sun-eyed.

  • maaaaaaan he looks just like Micheal Cera in "Super Bad" here

  • they look exactly the same!!

  • lol he looks british james blunt kinda face going on there lol

  • awesome

  • one should not try to disect and analyze beck songs.....instead, sit back and enjoy the groove .........young grasshopper ;)

  • In the first verse he says "with a noose she can hang from the sun" so she would have a sharp stare and "And put it out with her dark sunglasses" wearing sunglasses would block the sun light, meaning she has sun-eyes. But I'm not sure what he says still.

  • yea, then he says "my sun-eyed girl"

    over and over again

  • It's not Sun eyed. It;s Cyanide.

    Hope I helped

    James

  • Nice to finally see a live of this cool song. Too bad Youtube won't let anyone post Beck's SNL performances (Girl, Clap Hands, etc.) of cuz they are some of the best that show has ever had.

  • I think he flips back and forth between Sun eyed And Cyanide... and on his official website he leaves it says "my .... Girl"

  • slant eyed?

  • Ha! No it isn't, that sounds border-line racist

  • I have nothing to complain to him about, I think it's an excellent song...? I don't think you understand what's going on here...

  • In the actually official Guero tab book it says "My summer girl" but I'm sure he never actually sings that. He probably sings "my smnhrh girl!"

  • this might be th emost perfect version he could do of the song....Beck is awesome

  • i have beck guitar silverton

  • I think sometimes he says sun-eyed and sometimes he says cyanide.

  • nahh i think its sun eyed

  • I always thought it was..."when I saw that girl"

  • Maybe he left it bblank so that you could hear what you wanted to hear. Thats my guess, though I do think he is saying "cyanide girl" It could be "sun-eyed" just as easy.

  • Here I think he makes it obvious that it's cyanide.

  • Yeah... I've seen it as "sun-eyed" "cyanide" and "summer." The lyrics in the book list it as "my..... girl" So I have no clue.

  • i pretty sure its cyanide girl because based on the other lyrics its sounds like he wants to kill her.

    well atleast to me

  • Agreed.

  • i second that

  • @Timmyandthelordsofth agree aswell

  • @Timmyandthelordsofth ok i see 2 possibilities for the meaning of the lyrics:

    1. he wants to kill her

    2. he is playing as if he was death, and he is on is way to "work"

  • @Timmyandthelordsofth this be the radio version, like fiddy might do

  • It's a close call, it could be either; cyanide or sun-eyed, isn't it on the cd's lyric sheet? I can't find mine...anyway. Shame about the lousy recording of the mix here, great performance nonetheless. I'm seeing the Modern Guilt tour in a few weeks!!!!!!!I just can't imagine a couple of hours worth of all his incredible music seen and heard LIVE and in the flesh!!!!

  • The San Fran outside lands?

  • Sorry mate, but that page of my Becktionary is missing...come again lol? Be gentle with me, I'm slowly losing my mind with the upcoming LIVE BECK SHOW to think about..

  • You going to the Show in San Francisco? Aug 22. The San Francisco Outside lands festival.

No worry's lol. Its all good

  • he's so simple! i like that

  • girl is one of my summer songs too high5lovemaroon5. beck is awesome, can never et enough of him!

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • it's a 1969 vintage silvertone danelectro

  • woah. it does sound like cynide when he sings it live..

  • He hypnotizes me! Anyone know how old Beck is?

  • He's 38.

  • thanks rkz!

  • @rkz

41 as of 2011. Doesn't look it though!

  • @sumin95 Turned 40 this year, born in 1970

  • i love this song its one of my summer songs and loser is one of the best songs ever

  • IMO, Beck's best video ever.

  • that things rock on! i believe in Jesus and i don't fucking give a damn if he believe in budha or whatever...rock on ! that's all!

  • He's a Scientologist..

  • Religion's got nothing to do with this right now. Plus, I am not Christian either.

  • Well at least we can all be content in the fact that he isn't a Christian, what an absurd religion that is!!

  • wats your problem with cristains

  • who cares about what his religion is

isn't this video about him playing a song

    good video :D

  • why is everyone arguing about his religion? If u guys are pissed just becausehe is a scienctalogist doesnt that show how short minded you are, im not one but i dont care one way or another, Beck is amazing so does it matter?

  • my sun-eyed girl?? or my Cyanide Girl??

  • its my sun eyed girl

  • it's cyanide girl

  • CYANIDE OR SUN EYED!?!?!?!

  • whats the difference?

  • i STILL say its syenide

  • this guy is sooo tallented

  • one of the best songs he has ever written

  • Chain Reaction FTW

  • ill agree also

  • Beck is awesome!

  • i completely agree

  • he is?

  • indeed... I was shocked when I heard... I love his music but since hearing that I have kinda lost respect for the guy...

  • now i have...

  • Who cares what religion he is. You should be able to look past that and enjoy the music for what it is. At least he doesn't flaunt it like Tom Cruise.

  • I do enjoy his music.... very much... I love Beck, but just 'cos I like his music does that mean I HAVE to like him as well.... all I said was "Shame he's a Scientologist" it's a shame Tom Cruise is one 'cos he's actually a really good actor... but a dick for being in that religion... same as Beck

  • Well, you're entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mine. Scientology is really, really dumb, but I don't think Beck is. Carry on.

Oh, and llama, read my post again, I said I don't care.

    Love, Jackysan

It's just that it scares the fuck out of me.

I've been listening to his stuff for 11 years, what if he goes bizurk and starts singing hymns, dressed in white, christening virgins and shit?

I see it as a threat for a genius, please please don't change Beck.

  • Your Ridiculous for even caring.

  • Yes he is. However, unlike Cruise, he was born into it and I'm almost positive he's a casual member and doesn't know the full extend of the "religion"

How do you know? Please tell me, so I can look it up, if only he would be a casual member I'd feel so much better.

  • Quote from an interview: "Yeah, I'm a Scientologist. My father has been a Scientologist for about 35 years, so I grew up in and around it."
