They also play "soccer" and not fooball, but who cares? I am very curious, do the southafricans label themselves as africans? It makes perfect sense that the abbreviation is the U.S., but would the correct term then be U.S.-ians or U.S.-ans? It still makes sense to say American, regardless of whether the country is abbreviated to U.S. or America.

Why abbreviate it to "America" when you can say "The US"....It's easier to say and it is more correct! Mexicans are Americans, Brazilians are Americans, Canadians are Americans, etc. When you say refer to people from "America" You could be referring to anybody in the whole continent. You guys just take the name "Americans" as if you guys ruled the place and deserve the name. Its just out of respect to the other countries to not only refer to yourselves as Americans. Doing so is just ignorant.

well, I wonder if the people writting comments in here are wanting to show respect to those who dont think like them, for instance, I'm not a anglo-saxon speaker, and i do the effort of english writing, so , if i do write in spanish, will any anglo-saxon speaker do the effort of answering in spanish?
