  • ha! an old comment made by me with a different account's got 10 thumbs up. neat : p

  • So where is the justice for Dave, who not only was molested as a child but wrongly accused and murdered by his childhood friend? Haunting movie. Loved it.

  • A mile upriver, the Mystic becomes much narrower and is really pretty.

  • That's the dive bar that Penn, Robbins, and the two brothers go to

  • @m00nm4st3r The bah was built just for the movie.

  • Clint is the man.

  • u said it

  • Great trailer. Its so nice to check out a trailer and not see so much of the movie.

  • I have to ask a stupid question: I see shots like that in hunded of movies -- do they film them from a helicopter or what?

  • its not a stupid question at all...Im wondering that also....must be from a helicopter ?? dunno

my guess is that is is from a helicopter...now i cant sleep cos i want to know lol

  • Hey, I make movie and actually when it's over land, it's usually a big crane, but when it's over water then it's a helicopter or plane. With city scenes it's a helicopter or boat, wherever shot is coming from.

  • Thanks. I had a feeling they couldn't swing a crain over the river! = )

So the opening to Shining would be helicopter too, right?

  • Yup. Basically it's a rigged helicopter. There's a big platform you stand on with a steady cam. then you film from that. The camera guy is also hooked to the inside of the helicopter so he won't fall out when he's getting the really kewl shots. :)

  • I'd piss my pant if that was my job.

    Hope they pay well!

  • Well depending on your job and the budget...they can pay well. A friend of mine is producing a new movie with Halle Berry and his budget is up to $90 million!

  • Wasn't The Shining primarily stedicam work? Which scene are you referring to? I'm not saying that you're wrong or anything, don't misunderstand, I'm just trying to see which scene we're referring to, that's all.

  • Yeah, mostly it was stedicam, but they also used dolly tracks. I haven't seen The Shining in forever, but I think "TomFromJersey" was referring to the opening shot. I guess it looked like it had been from a crane or helicopter. Are you in the film business?

  • Not yet. I'd like to be, of course, but wannabe filmmakers like myself are probably a dime-a-dozen, but I'm studying and reading up on the art of cinema, hoping to break in one day. Really need to sort out a lot of things though. For stedicam, I'm partial the dazzling work in The Road Warrior, just a year after The Shining, myself.

  • Nice! Yeah, I'm going to school to be a doctor, but film is my passion! I'm making a short film right now for a film festival and I did a big film project last year. It's just amazing what you can do with a camera.

Do you have any work? Maybe on YouTube or something? I'd love to see some! :)

  • Just a little slideshow that I put together for one of my classes. If you click on my name, it's up. IT isn't much, but I've got to start somewhere. I'm going to get a little more deeply into things this summer and particularly later this year, but my school's a smaller institution, so it's not really a film school per se. I think that this summer I'm just going to start working on my writing and toying with my camera the Final Cut program at school on some short film or something.

  • that makes sence allright

    thanks :-)
