ahh the good old days when it wasn't just the drivers that were allowed to be different! Others may try to take the title King of the mountain, but Brocky is God of Australian racing!
Peter perfect the greatest , thanks to this age of technology the legend lives on , it will be a long time before anyone comes even close to his achievements , RIP Brocky .
it will never ever happen again thanks to the bullshit rules now of the pace car shit what ajoke yank shit infecting our bathurt and rip brocky what alegend thanks for all the glorios memories
This car, & this driver will NEVER be repeated by anyone else in our lifetime. This final lap sums up best what Peter Brock was to my generation:
a driver with a God-gifted talent for driving hard, fast & was a gentleman on the track.
In today's format of tin-top racing ( V8 Supercars ), there will never again be a 6 lap lead or a car leading every lap from start to finish as all the cars in the field have identical mechanicals. It will have to take something special for this to happen again.
i don't think the car was even slightly sideways once, compared to other cars, even other toranas,. of that era it appears to handle so much better, i guess the HDT guys had this car set up just right.
@7977nobby you got that right i wonder what would happen if you pushed the car a little bit harder though it may slide a bit but it would be a slightly quicker lap depending on lines and speed etc :)
I can't tell you how much I respect Peter Brock. I've interacted with Peter many times over many years, and yet I've never seen this legendary lap. Thanks SO much for the post.
The reason why the Volvo was in the race was Wheels magazine journo David McKay wanted to protest at the way the race was heading. Race cars v's production cars.So he entered a stock Volvo on Uniroyal (Taken over by Bridgestone I think) road tyres. Allowed by the rules, stupid though. The car finished 20th.
A9X = sex on wheels.. even if your a ford fan brocky is a legend... the reason the volvo was there was back in the day the bathurst 1000 was a production race...race em sunday sell em monday
@SPOOKSTR Absolutely right. I canot follow V8 Supercars. 2 of basically the same cars. Load of shit. These were the days of real racing. Many different manufacturers and different classes.
a few things, he got slowed by traffic heading up to the cutting, also got some of his apex's wrong at the top of the mountain around reid park, he could of done a fair quicker lap.
Was there a better car than the torana, will there be a better one one day?
