In my opinion Morse is great, an amazing technicall guitarist, also very expressive, knows a lot about composition, but no way as wild and insane as Blackmore.Love Purpendicular and the Dixie Dregs though.
@roger42homunculus I agree with you, that Mr. Morse is not as wild as Blackmore, but you can't be crazy for 40 years! I personally think that Morse came in perfect time for purple with his personality he gave some sort of stability in the band, an also diffrent sound(for someone less wilde, but purer and versatile) PS: Don't get me wrong, I prefer Steve over Ritchie, but Blackmore was a badass mofo! B)badass mofo! B)
I was there (3.06.1996, PL-Katowice Spodek) in the age of 10... when I heard them I wanted to be a drummer... and now... I am a drummer :) wonderful concert, wonderful music, wonderful everything :)
Love his pedals, he has a wah, a loop effect pedal, delay pedal, TWO Guv'nor pedals, and etc... I especially love the two Guv'nor pedal effect! I mean, you have one on and the other off, both at different settings, and as soon as you turn on the other one, BOOM! you got more distortion, he likes to do that! Start from clean hit a note press on pedal to add distortion, then waits to press the other one again... LOVE IT!
I would say: Steve is great! I'm playing guitar for a few years now and in my opinion he's one of the greatest guitarists in the world! When I startet listening to DEEP PURPLE, I loved Blackmore a lot. Maybe I startet playing guitar because of HIM. But today I say: Nothing better could happen to Deep Purple than Steve Morse! I make a clear difference between the old(with Blackmore) and the new(with Morse) DEEP PURPLE. And the songs recorded with Steve are also great!
he has wrong to sing! 0.37 the song start with "You know I'm not your lover now it might as well be said and then you say you're leaving Or maybe I'm just hanging on a thread When I gave you everything it didn't seem that much You gave me your opinion with the usual heavy handed touch" he has repeated two times the second stanza!
Of course, I only say "no more popular", Because there exist many famous guitarists who do not touch well the guitar, but Steve is not popular, but it he is very good touching, much better than some that they are famous.

I am not your lover, I am not your friend, I am something you could never comprehend.

Popularity don't make you better. I like both, in their different ways and styles.
