I work with stagecraft and curtains and crap like that all the time, and I can tell you from both a witness point of view and personal experience, if that heavy-fucking bar hits you on the head, it's gonna do some damage. Concussion, if you're lucky, brain damage if you're not.

Actually, having being involved with the theatre, I know curtains are weighted with a chain sewn into the edge, not a solid bar, so although it might have given him a bit of a bump, it was descending slowly and he was in no danger of serious injury. You can see how the curtain rests on his stool.

It doesnt look like it broke loose. It looks like it was a batton that was being lowered purposefully. Automatic batton control lower at about that speed. It sounds to me like the batton control guy didnt like him.
