If your going to make a comment like "Not great I'm afraid" about this video then please post a video of you playing it the "right" way.
But your not gonna do that are you?? Your the type of "critic" who loves to say how it should be played, but in fact you can't play much of anything yourself. Do the world a favor and STFU! I very much doubt that your a master at your instrument, if in fact you even play one.
0_o How 'bout money for their families who are barely getting by because part of their family is gone?? But..It's great playing, I've been playing violin for a while now and I started learning this piece. It's much simplier than it sounds.
Agreed. How about money to rebuild the shattered lives this bogus "war on terror" has caused and bring the troops home so they can listen to iPods here?
Whatever.
Beautiful playing, though personally I didn't really like the change Chris made near the end. That crescendo just doesn't seem -- to me, at least -- to fit with the rest of the song.
Scots and Irish music is easy to learn, but hard to master. Must be a Celtic soul thing, who knows - but he totally overstates the arpeggios when they should be nothing more than a single note in time. Too classical sounding.
screw the tempo...he was about 50/50...as a young artist...his nuts and bolts were there...but his technique or style needed some help...no shame...i saw impatience in belief of himself and furthermore he needed to prove to the crowd that he knew what he was doing, which i never felt...technically great performance...but artistically...needs help in interpretation...
Beautiful! I completely disagree with the whoever said the trills were out of place! Thats American fiddling, how its supposed to sound. Brilliant. Double stops would have been sort of nice (how I play this piece) but I suppose thats a matter of interpretation. Great job!
Great job! It really brings your emotions out especially when i play it. I love to play this song onmy violin . I play it so much i almost have the song memorized!
I love how some people who comment love to either:
1) Criticize the musician
or
2) Criticize other people who make comments.
You're not proving anything by calling someone an 11 year old OR by stating that a musician's playing isn't "good". Perhaps some people like to take out their musical/social frustrations out on the internet..?
Are any of the people giving advice actually players? Just curious... Anyways, I think this was lovely. Maybe a little fast, like others have said, I play it a bit slower, but that could just be a style thing.
Really, the biggest problem is in the title; there's no such thing as "A Violin Song".
Songs have lyrics... "tunes" have only melodies.
It might be a "Fiddle Tune", or a "violin piece", but until it's sung by someone, it's not a "song".
And there HAVE been lyrics written to this, long after it was composed, but they're a little cheesey. Fiind them at jayandmolly com website

I can't believe you labeled vibrato as "finger wiggling" lol. Honestly, judging by that sentence alone I'd have to say you are 11 or younger.

Actually, it is from Ken Burns' Civil War documentary. The song is written in 1982.

itsrunescapetime 4 years ago
The "finger wiggle" is called vibrato. Ask your teacher for help because there's no way someone can show you over the internet.
TennisChamp59 4 years ago
"finger wiggling" is called vibrato, there are three types, wrist, finger, and arm. i use arm and finger the most,

Maybe take the turns a little slower, and (as hard as this is to do, and easy as it is to say) put some emotion into it!
