If things get that bad, barter items like food, medicines, cigarettes, alcohol, firearms, and ammunition (items of intrinsic value) are what you want. Good point. Many of us already have adequate food, water, ammo etc. for months if not years. Gold and silver are used to preserve additional wealth for the future. Hundreds of currencies have come and gone over the past 5,000 years, but gold has kept it's value through history.

I work for a rental management company who built specialized homes in planned communities for years. As the real estate bubble grew, financing got really weird, so of course now you're stuck with whatever you had as of 2007. I hesitate to buy gold because it seems to always involve a dealer who wants to skim 5% or 10% off the top just for the privilege of buying their coins.
If silver is $10 an ounce, then you'll have to buy it from a dealer for $11 an ounce.

My browsing on ebay showed that the price of silver bullion or rounds was substantially above the spot price of silver and often even more expensive than buying it from dealers.

I grow more food than I can eat and will be trading extra for gold/silver because they economy never stops just because fiat paper crashes. You can go to the bank and buy a 1oz silver eagle. But you cannot turn it back into the bank for a single penny. Gold has been worthless in the past. The Bible documents this very clearly. Silver is actually more valuable in a depression. The gov't used tons of it from Ft. Knox during WWII for electrical projects. Silver has anti- bacterial properties. The value of gold is based on greed, but silver has intrinsic value in every situation.
Yep, this commercial real estate collapse will be much worse than residential because this will crush the small banks, which means this depression will hit us at every local level. And these 'toxic assets' - more like worthless securities - are losing more value as they hold on to them. We still have at least 1-2 more years of this deflationary blackhole.
If there is a run on banks, what good will gold and silver coins do? A run on banks means there is little cash. If the laws say banks can refuse to honor a withdrawl slip, how will gold and silver be used? If there is no cash, food and other essential supplies become valuable...not gold....not silver. I would not take gold for trade on food. I would however take guns, ammo, 12 volt batteries, solar panels, medical supplies, gardening supplies, etc...! Hunger demands food, not gold or silver.

Good video, I too keep just enough money in the bank to cover utilities and monthly ayments. The rest of my cash goes into a vault at my house and or spent on tangibles.
My question is that I hear everyone, including you saying to get out of debt. Why? Obviously it would be great to be out of debt, but what if you have credit card debt and other when the bubble burst? What if you're in the middel of a chapter 13 bankruptcy when the bubble burst? Just curious.

An old saying is true "the borrower is slave to the lender".
To be free you must not be a slave. As for the house thing, if you continue to live in that house, then its not a big deal because even if the market tanks you still have a place to live.
However if your not in debt at all, then you save, buy or build a house with all cash, then those who want you to be their slave have no hold on you or your family.
Does this make sense?

She said some thousands of banks are going to fail over the next three years, because of Commercial Real Estate resets. So, they can do one of two things, bail the banks out again, or let them fail. Failure means billions of people will suffer, loose savings and earnings. So your idea of keeping just the float in the account is a good idea.

But
There is plenty in both the Quran and the Hadith that specifically instructs believers to kill non-muslims, conqueror new territory and lie to non believers to advance violent Jihad with the ultimate aim of worldwide conquest.
That some Muslims are "moderate" does not nullify the fact that the Quran itself teaches violent Jihad. There may be moderate Muslims but the Quran itself is not.

European birth rates were, last I heard, just above 2 children per family, while Muslim birth rates (within Europe) were about 6 children per family.
Because Muslim birth rates far exceed European birth rates, Muslims will dominate Europe by about 2050 (and mandate Sharia law).
The birth rates and date are fuzzy approximates but the outcome is not.

You're absolutely right, and the fact that the government keeps coming up with ways to manipulate the market, consumer confidence, etc... means that the time it takes for this to grind us down and ultimately collapse is extended by months and years. Personally, I think the collapse is most likely to happen between 2012 and 2015, though it could even take longer than that. Who really knows? The best thing people can do is get out of debt and prepare for the storm that's coming. Great vid!!!

Yes, if one argues to pay off debt now, then one thinks deflation is on the horizon. In that case, cash is king. Conversely, if you think inflation is coming, take on all the debt you can while rates are low. You can pay back that debt with worthless future dollars.

If and when the dollar crashes, I respectfully question the efficacy of physical gold and silver. If things get that bad, barter items like food, medicines, cigarettes, alcohol, firearms, and ammunition (items of intrinsic value) are what you want. I spoke with an uncle who survived the Great Depression and he advised me to invest in groceries.

Good point. Many of us already have adequate food, water, ammo etc. for months if not years. Gold and silver are used to preserve additional wealth for the future. Hundreds of currencies have come and gone over the past 5,000 years, but gold has kept it's value through history.

To an extent, I agree with you. Gold has been a store of wealth for centuries but at the end of the day you can't eat it or stop a bad guy with it.
If the time should come (as in the passage you quoted) that food is really scarce then food becomes as good as gold (or better).
I would rather cast my net a bit wider than just gold and have several things with intrinsic value on hand.
A good gun usually increases in value, can stop a bad guy and bring Bambi home for dinner (buy a few guns).

Fantastic advice, Steve. The only thing I'll add is that this is a good time to invest in yourself and your health--work out, eat the right foods and keep those potato chips and candy on the stockpile shelf for when you need some comfort food. If you're on medications for BP or cholesterol, try like hell to get off them.
If you have elderly people in your life, try to encourage them to keep 3 month supplies of their meds on hand too.

I work for a rental management company who built specialized homes in planned communities for years. As the real estate bubble grew, financing got really weird, so of course now you're stuck with whatever you had as of 2007. It would be nice if you'd roll the temporary financing into those new published low-rate loans, but guess what, the banks just aren't putting out.... you'd better hope to have cash flow to support your business until the floodgates of bank comm'l financing open again.

If silver is $10 an ounce, then you'll have to buy it from a dealer for $11 an ounce.

The current price of silver is about $16 per troy ounce, but that was not the question or issue.
$10 was a hypothetical example. I said "IF" the price were X then you would pay X plus dealer markup.
My question was and still is, how do you get silver or gold without paying a commission to some dealer?

Unlike gold, it will always have value no matter how bad things get. In fact, the worse things get, the more valuable it becomes. Especially if you have the gun to shoot the lead out of...LOL!

Few people have money to burn paying fees. Why let a broker skim off 10% when there could be much better alternatives.
I find good things by asking better questions and drilling down to find the best solution. I saved thousands of dollars by letting a title company handle the purchase of my home rather than a realtor.
It would be foolish not to ask a question that could save me thousands of dollars.

The commercial real estate market makes no sense whatsoever. I live in Las Vegas, and there are so many empty office buildings gathering dust, and have been for years! What is remarkable is cost/sq ft has not dropped at all. I keep waiting for them to come to their senses so I can rent a building dirt cheap and hire some unemployed peeps (and gain the 5k tax credit) but only a fool would sign a lease at these prices. Doesn't look like a free market to me.

Study the economic collapse of Argentina back in 2001. The government froze all checking and savings accounts in the banks across Argentina. People were only allowed to withdraw 100 pesos a day. And you had to stand in line for 6 hours to get your 100 pesos.
Best investments are seeds, food, dehydrators, solar panels, ammo, guns, pressure cookers, gardening tools, and other things found in a hardware store.

They know that eventually they will need heirloom seeds because genetically modified seeds are highly subject to unknown new diseases. You don't need gobs of seeds. If banks go under, where will you be able to redeem your precious metals? You can't trade coins for cash at banks right now because cash is not backed by gold...It's backed by confidence. In SHTF, where would someone use gold for survival, or where would they turn it in for cash? Cash in SHTF is useless. Bartering is king in SHTF. If you have very little food you CANT trade any of it for anything or you will starve, but if you are in that dire a situation then you are probably going to die anyway. People have always used gold and silver for money and always will. I grow more food than I can eat and will be trading extra for gold/silver because they economy never stops just because fiat paper crashes. There are always people with more than they need and will want to store their wealth in metal that doesnt rot like food.

You can go to the bank and buy a 1oz silver eagle. But you cannot turn it back into the bank for a single penny. Gold has been worthless in the past. The Bible documents this very clearly. Silver is actually more valuable in a depression. The gov't used tons of it from Ft. Knox during WWII for electrical projects. Silver has anti- bacterial properties. The value of gold is based on greed, but silver has intrinsic value in every situation.

Yep, this commercial real estate collapse will be much worse than residential because this will crush the small banks, which means this depression will hit us at every local level. And these 'toxic assets' - more like worthless securities - are losing more value as they hold on to them. We still have at least 1-2 more years of this deflationary blackhole.

If there is a run on banks, what good will gold and silver coins do? A run on banks means there is little cash. If the laws say banks can refuse to honor a withdrawl slip, how will gold and silver be used? If there is no cash, food and other essential supplies become valuable...not gold....not silver. I would not take gold for trade on food. I would however take guns, ammo, 12 volt batteries, solar panels, medical supplies, gardening supplies, etc...! Hunger demands food, not gold or silver.
