BTW, TOONTRACK features a small clip from "Cipher" at 4:53 from you guys on their new MetalMachine here at about 5:53 ;) Check out the Making of Metal Machine EZX.
You know, this is amazing music here. I am currently writing and recording at the moment and hearing this really made my day. What I would do for an axe-fx instead of pod farm. Any tips on how to make a muddyish bridge pickup roar like a lion?
When the camera stops at 0:24.. Is that In Birmingham? I think i recognized that place :P (im from norway) btw sick drummer, sick band, love you guys!
If you ask me the demographic for real kit vs acoustic kit (drum) is changing drastically, and I totally dig the e-kit setup and sound. KILLER. Self produced band all the way. Keep it up you have a new fan.
@MrShitstacles Simply because while we don't have the finances to access to a decent enough space or equipment to record a real drum kit, we do have access to a whole host of great drum samples and software.
@MrShitstacles Well the electronic kit is what Sam learnt to play drums on so already had it anyway, recording drums in even a semi-decent studio space would cost us more than we can afford.
@MrShitstacles Most modern drum sounds are 90-100% samples anyways so it's tighter and with less bleed. Only Cymbals and sometimes snare are to some degree "natural". So don't give em shit ;)
@Morgorroth nah man i dont mean to giv em shit its just i hav never seen a band play with electric drums and it took me by surprise... never once in my mind did i think that comment would get noticed... No offence or harm intended
@theperfectcell6 I couldn't really pin down an 'exact' use for it other than to say we use it for additional layers of synths and things like that, I mostly use it for more percussive sounds to help "push" any sections that naturally seem to lag and that lagging feeling is detrimental to the track.
@OpulenceOfKnowledge Yeah sure, it's really relatively simple. We hook up the drum brain from Sams electronic kit to the computer via a MIDI interface, and that pretty much automatically talks to Logic. It's simply a case of recording the MIDI signal from the drummers performance and attributing the MIDI notes to Superior Drummer.
i also work with superior drummer and i was just wondering whatyou do to make that kick drum so intense? i've tried a lot of stuff but i still can't get that kick to sound as dense and have a great impact to it.
@asgRYAN Let me expand on that because I don't think the snarky response I gave really clarifies anything.
Very little for the album is timing corrected. As you can hear in the particular clip you're referencing when Sam and Nolly are discussing the drum tracking, they are discussing the actual content of tracked takes, making the decisions to change the voicing of certain drum fills and patterns so as to better suit the song.
@omer442 There is a section in one of the songs that, when I was adding layers I wanted something very syncopated and rhythmic which would counterpoint the guitars, I felt that a morse code sound would work, and didn't just want to have something which was meaningless, so translated something for it.
@Niallphillips Hey Niall, unfortunately almost all of the tracking has been and gone without us taking the initiative to record very much of it. That being said we'll be sure to be cooking up a few surprises in the coming months.

@asgRYAN As opposed to most pro studios fixing all the drum tracks using timing correction and replacing the recorded drums with samples?
